I think one thing people who want to retire overseas need to do is learn not to be attached to things. It's expensive to ship your belongings and many times, you find you need or want different items in your new home. If you're not settled in one place, it's even more important to learn to live with less stuff. You don't want to carry or ship too many bags, and hauling them around in a new place is a hassle. Pare down your clothing and personal items to 2 bags max. and sell, donate or give away everything else. What you own, owns you.

When you come back to the mainland it will be a serious culture shock. So prepare for that in whatever format that may take. I was also overseas in dozens of countries from late 1970's through the 1990's. I worked as a military contractor. I also against company orders would live on the economy within the areas we were flying out of. I loved it! And the culture shock I had coming back to the states required counseling. I found a great place close to the Redwood coast in Northern California that I can almost afford to live. But the local economy is stressed.

I feel the same way you do about the U.S. And anytime a politician comes along that actually wants to fight for average Americans,, both major political parties will gang up on them and vilify them as Socialists just they way they have done for decades upon decades. It's about the only time they will agree on something. That, and when they decide to give more tax breaks to The Rich Peoples' Club, of which they are members.

It's straight forward in his pinned comment, & it's straight forward in the video description. It doesn't have a disclaimer on the video or title, but I can't see a reason he would need to do that considering it's pretty obvious to me everywhere else. Time difference if you work online/make calls. Safety. Traffic. Language awareness

when I watch these kinds of videos, it makes me confident that I'll be alright. I'm 61. I've had my share of nice cars and other toys. I don't really need to do that anymore. I have a home in a nice clean part of Los Angeles. I'm just done with the U.S. I don't want to live in a country where there is a fair chance I could get shot anytime I leave my house, and the government is too weak and/or idiotic to do anything about it. I'm selling my house late this summer. I am lucky enough to have found an honest and decent woman. I met her when her daughter was 9 years old. She's about to turn 13. (My how time flies..) Thea is the daughter I never had. I actually fell in love with her first. hahaha. I'm a seasoned traveler. I traveled around the world as a performer when I was a younger man. I've been to the Philippines. several times. I'm actually Filipino American, so I am somewhat familiar with the culture, though I don't speak or understand the language. After I sell my house, I plan to live in a gated community not too far from Manila. I will build a home that is 3 to 5 times nicer than the home I have now, and will still have 6 figures left from the sale of the house I have now. I will be able to put away most of my pension....Easily 3k per month. I will be able to travel anytime I wish, though for now, taking care of my Filipino family, building my next home, and working on my writing will keep me very content.

I have only vacationed in 3 countries in Africa. I only talk about countries where I have done the living research.

@@VagabondAwake Yeah I know that (second sentence). My question was about the first sentence - is it because you are from (the) America(s) and Qiang is from Asia? Or is there any other reason for not having a look at Africa within the "retire cheap in paradise" scheme? I was (and am) just interested about your thoughts on this.

Biggest mistake for retireesโ€ฆfinancial preparation starts decades before retirement. If you wait until your forties, itโ€™s practically impossible to catch up. Pensions are a relic from the past. You must learn to invest. With proper planning, your portfolio can easily generate $100,000+ annually.

Do you have a contingency or succession plan for your membership? I would hope to make use of past content for several years to come. It really is a valuable trove of information. "Membership for life" is for Dan's life LOL. I would hate to think there is any risk that this content will not be maintained for several years to come.

What is your advice for a man from Denmark of 59 years about living in Thailand and the Philippines pros and cons ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿค”Just saw that there are new laws to be voted on in the coming months on, among other things, residence permits and things around it ๐Ÿค”It is my first time in Asia and loves water and heat and got an early retirement in February 2019.

You can remain on a tourist visa for up to 3 years. If you leave before the 3 years, you can return, and you start from zero again, If you reach the 3 years,, You can fly to Thailand or any other country and come right back, and the your 3 years will start all over again,

i don't like the proposed changes to the Philippines visa rules i am hearing. does their goverment not understand all the money expats bring there? seems short sighted, for what reason? just when i am months away from emigrating there, hopefully it won't make things too much more difficult to live there.

I love what Woody Allen says about clubs, "I wouldn't want to join any club that would have me as a member." lol.
