I bought brand new a white 2000 Z/24 Cavalier. Mine is rare having a white paint job and the pewter grey interior over tbe standard charcoal grey and red interior. I have ever factory option except mine is the Getrag 5-Speed. 23 years later I still have the car and still like new and near mint! Also a few years ago I added the rare GM Performance Supercharger kit (not a factory option as stated) also a Camaro SS ram air hood and a cat back exhaust. According to the guys at the GM Performance Division who developed this set up on a 2000 Sunfire GT, I am putting out 205hp/200tq. I was a Chevrolet master tech from 1996 to 2013. I used to chat with the folks of the GM Performance Division alot then. Great guys. I dont wanna do any more to my car. My Z/24 was my first new car and to what I did looking stocks looks to be what GM would have done if the Z/24 actually did come with the supercharger and ram air hood, like a SS model. You can see it on my instagram at DietrichDeLorean_11035

2.4L wasn’t quite bullet proof. Had a tendency to spin 3rd bearing, and since it was an interference engine, any questionable activity that happened with the timing chain, you were in serious trouble. All that aside, GM guys called it the sowing machine, due to the loud fuel injector ticking. It’s was a zippy little car, and with a little bit of affordable add-ons, like an intake, header and 3” exhaust, and stiffer engine mounts and coil overs, it felt like a go-kart. Great little cars, but were notorious for body rot in quarter panels and bottom of doors after a few years (Mid-West). P.S. It was a J-body car that shared parts with the Pontiac Sunfire, not Neon. Unfortunately my uncle mistreated it a lot and by the time I was in my teens around 2018 it was already sitting rotting away at my grandpa’s backyard. Good to see some appreciation here but this video is rather poorly researched. The z24 was available as a sedan for a brief period, not only a coupe/convertable. The Dodge Neon was absolutely not in any way related to the GM J bodies. The Dodge Neon rear brakes are a popular swap on the Cavalier because they have a similar rear suspension design and the same wheel bolt pattern but aside from that nothing. Several of the clips shown here are of later 03-05 models with the ecotec engine, after the discontinuation of the z24.

I have one of these damn things. Yeah it's "fAsT". But it's still a POS , the motor sucks ( reliable/good gas millage if you drive it under 3K.) , the engine bay sucks , you need to remove the passenger wheel for so many repairs. The body loves to rust, and parts for these are getting hard to find cheap. The ecotec is relatively easy to find parts for. But the caviler it self is hard to find parts for. I would not recommend this car to anybody , my insurance stopped insuring this car cause it's considering "unsafe". ( I have American fancily). Then when I tried to insure it was nearly $150 /m for liability on average. Mine is still up and running , I'm junking it this winter.

I got a 97 4 door, and I’m gonna blow it up if I don’t quit acting like it’s a corvette

I had a 96 4 door auto. The only vehicle I ever beat off the line was that little gmc s-10 like pickup. Cuz it had the same engine I think and was heavier. Good grief that car was slow. At least it never let me down, I'll give it that.
