Fear not...Holden Commodores were very popular in Australia and parts, here at least, are plentiful...genuine and non-OEM. BTW, the thick pillars were also a sore point with Aussie auto reviewers BUT they were there for a reason. Australia has a great road network in the cities, suburbs and the big rural areas BUT the roads in the outback can be really appalling. Holden didn't just make the SS model, they also made cooking models with V6 engines as well. The cars had to be designed to withstand the rigours of driving on outback roads and that's why the bodies are A-Grade tough with the big pillars. You can drive through the outback and see a lot of foreign-made cars sitting on the side of the road with dead suspension towers, broken at the firewall and other problems. Not Holdens. Holdens were designed, from the very first model in 1948, to be bloody tough.

I absolutely love my 2017 Chevy SS. I just got it 2 months ago it dynoed at 720whp on E85 Magnuson supercharger and Texas Speed Goody's it was built for car shows only has 20k on it. First car that I've bought that cost more than my zero turn mower! Lol 🤣🍾

Price killed the SS, $45K+ for a car with 415hp in 2017 when a scatpack charger with 485hp were selling for $35K. Back in 2019 I was shopping for an SS and found one at car max, a 2015 with 50K and they wanted $39K for it and wouldn't budge, so I bought a 2019 Scatpack charger with 800 miles for $36K. :)

A couple corrections, 2015-2017 had the option for a manual. And the price is more like $30k on average depending on options and miles. A low mileage 6MT is in the 40s all day long

Im an aussie and have 2 incarnations of what you call a chevy ss.... but both are VERY different. The first is a 2010 SSV Sportwagon... (google for pics) a daily driver for my wife with plenty of mods to have looking sharp AND going hard enough to scare most people. My pride and joy is a 1984 holden commodore with a locally built 5.0 V8 badged a VH SL/E.... All steel and a luxury version (at the time) of an SS, which is quite rare nowadays... (for those interested 'vh sl/e walkaround' will show you my actual red devil) both cars are head turners and now that Holden is gone are reminders of "what used to be" The sound of a healthy V8, paired with a manual transmission and rear wheel drive still gives me goosebumps... Enjoy

The SS has been popping up on multiple videos recently ... with them all saying they’re priced 20’s & 30’s ... I literally just checked ... they’re all 40+. Granted I’m filtering 6MT’s ... but the fact remains. Enthusiasts either can’t or won’t spend that type of money. Those who can go Dodge, or just go straight up German.

I have a Chevy SS - bought it new in 2014. Like the guy who made this video suggests - I cross shopped it with the CTS-V. It seemed to me the SS did everything the CTS-V did, for over $10K less. Plus it has a better engine and a larger back seat and more trunk space (I have kids).

BTW owning it: I've had basically zero problems with the engine or transmission. It's lovely to drive. The interface didn't play well with my iPhone for a while there but somehow it eventually self-corrected. No idea how.

Also there's a little foamy grommet type thing in the glove box (in vf commodores, aussie version) that will eventually get soaked through by a/c condensation and will start leaking into the footwell.

The GTO brought Holden to the states. The G8 inspired us enthusiasts where the 96 B body Impala SS left off. Then came the PPV Caprice with its true sleeper looks that was recognized by its flared wheel wheels and long wheelbase. (You had two graphite wrapped drifting) The SS was the farewell from 🦁 that will be one of GM vehicles top collectors in the modern muscle car era. It’s a LS RWD sedan capable of 400k miles with an elegant stance ready to be ushered into anyone’s collection elegantly. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJSvmqOIl7dgnLs
