Recently picked up a 2014 with 54k miles. The truck is immaculate in and out, as well as mechanically. It belonged to a federal agency instead of a police department, which means all the goodies with half the miles and without going on patrol. It even has a large equipment drawer in the back. I put a DOD delete kit on, along with full dual exhaust (a gentle rumble until you STEP DOWN HARD). This thing is epic. takes care of all the Lowe's trips, camping trips, and runs to Costco. Also, you get the comic relief of watching people on the interstate slam on the brakes when they see it and think they're about to blow by a cop. And it looks mean. Seriously, there is nothing more menacing than a black PPV. BUT! It's noisy as hell inside! They come with rubber flooring. Not floormats, we're talking flooring. Still working on what to do about this. Granted it's certainly not my daily driver, but when I need it, I want to be able to enjoy listening to Yo-Yo Ma, playing Bach's unaccompanied cello suite. I paid $10,250 (which I had earmarked for a triumph adventure bike) and while I wish I also had gotten my bike, I definitely made the right choice! Shop around and get a low mile example, and you'll never be happier.

@@woodly1069 My aunt, who is a secretary with the %^(*)^&*%^ had her boss offer it to her as it was about to be taken out os service and she knew her car had just been totaled due to hail storm. She asked me about it, I said do it and I'll give her the money. The did all the paper work (as they aren't supposed to sell directly to civilians w/o going through auction), and two months later her new VW Tiguan arrived, and she passed the Tahoe off to me. It's all about knowing someone. Good idea is checking with local constables, as they aren't nearly as hard on their rides as police and sheriff departments. Also, if you can, get on that is a color, in that I mean NOT black or white and certainly no combination of the two. Usually the gray, silver, champaign, blue, and so forth were detective cars or they belonged to actual coppers but ones much higher up the food-chain. Best of luck. -Cheers

Found this video on a whim. I have had my 2008 Tahoe PPV for a little over 7 years now. Best vehicle I've ever owned. It is still my daily drive at over 136,000 today. Mine was perfect when I got it and it was about $18,000 out the door. It was actually a DHS truck out of New Mexico and had a US Property Certificate with it. I have had very little by way of issues with it. Just replaced the radiator and secondary oil cooler along with leaky oil pan. They route through each other which is unique to the PPV. A couple of years ago I replaced the throttle body and a motor mount. None of these repairs were particularly expensive. I think about $1600 for the radiator/oil cooler/oil pan (dealer). Another $900 for the throttle body (did myself) and motor mount (dealer). Final thing was the sway bar links. I did those myself and are apparently a very cheap and common part. I think maybe $40 total for front and rear sets from local auto parts store with lifetime warranty. Normal wear items have been about the same. Brakes done once. Still original shocks and springs with no issues or sagging. They come from the factory with the auto-headlights disabled even though all of the sensor parts are there. Need a new BCM flash to fix that which I did. All Tahoes seem to eat batteries. Mine has gone through 3 now at a little over 2.5 years each. A few other PPV notes: They have a larger alternator and completely different bus system for accessories. Rear grounding lugs for additional electronics. I run a lot of ham radio gear in mine which is perfect for it all. You mention a 6 speed, but that didn't come along until 2013. 2007-2012 are the 4 speed still. Tall gear ratio for higher top speed and cruising fuel economy, but it doesn't get up as fast as regular Tahoes with the same power.

1:14 “ I can tell you this: Let me tell you right now- Boy, let me tell you” TELL USSSS Haha jk, great video. My father was a NY state trooper 28 years. Not sure his original vehicle, but as far as my memory goes he spent the most years in the Crown Vic before getting a Tahoe and he LOVED IT. Unfortunately after that he ended up with a Dodge (v-10 I think might have just made it up) which he spent the last few years before retirement in and he hated that turd on wheels. Only reason for the van was his partner retired and my dad was tired of working patrol, so he got what he called his “cushy” assignment and transferred to the NYS DOT enforcement- patrolling looking for Big rigs/dump trucks/ haulers etc... it requires him to carry scales and other equipment, NYS deemed a full sized van necessary haha. My dad still talks about the Tahoe and I am looking for a new vehicle. I’d like a Tahoe but they’re pricey, considering a PPv so thank you for the video!

I own a 2007 Tahoe. The active fuel management is an issue with these vehicles & DOES NOT help fuel mileage. I average between 13-15 and drive mine lightly. It is a heavy SUV with a v8, it was not created to get good fuel mileage. Also the PPV is not that different from a “civilian” model. My brother in law works for the Sheriff’s dept & drives a Tahoe. Besides a little bit different suspension setup & the PPVs have had the governor removed so they don’t stop accelerating at 98 MPH- they are identical.

I bought a PPV tahoe, one of the special lifters for the displacement on demand failed. Caused the cam to become scarred as well. This all happened before i bought it. Just know that if you buy one you should look out for that issue and think about saving the money for general maintenance. Most police cars are sold at around 100,000 miles. You’re gonna want new brake rotors and pads, new tires, new air filter, fuel filter, oil filter, cam, lifters, lifter trays, head gasket, head bolts, valve springs, water pump, oil pump, possibly other things like power steering, ac, brake boosters, vacuum lines, alternator, etc. You have to remember that these cars might have 100,000 miles, which is a lot by itself in terms of repairs due, but they also have been idled on the side of the road or in parking lots for hours and hours. Every engine our is equivalent to around 30 miles.

I dont know the practical use case for this SUV. You could easily upgrade a 4WD Tahoe with a transmission cooler, heavy duty radiator, better suspension (lowered if you want) and end up with a far better vehicle. The Tahoe PPV IS 2WD you cant use it in snow, wastes a ton of gas, and its lower to the ground. Maybe the ONLY use case is towing, but dont get stuck anywhere cause you dont have 4WD to help. Why in the world wouldnt I go get a AWD Honda Pilot or AWD Toyota Highlander? A Pilot 5.9 (actual), 6.9 (specs) 0-60 and Highlander is only a bit slower

I bought two of these Tahoes from the Texas Department of Public Safety. First one was a 2007 and later a 2009. I never whipped these vehicles with the miles they had on them I was not sure they would handle anymore abuse. The 09 shelled out the transmission at 172000 miles to the tune of just under $4000. We had no other major issues with the vehicles. Chevy used some really cheap material for their dash boards. Both of mine had cracks (Big Cracks). The sad part is they never made any attempt to improve on it all the way through that body style. For what they were they did get decent mileage, but you have to remember these were NOT made for gas mileage. I quit buying when the TDPS started turning in the vehicles with just under 200,000 miles. I would say if you can find one with under 100,000 miles, go for it.

I feel like this video you just kissed the Tahoe’s ass. Pretty disappointed. You did an amazing charger video, unbiased, and literally ironed out each issue that each generation had. What i got from this video was any Tahoe Ppv is the top tier police vehicle. What are the issues with them? What’s the manufacturer hiccups from 2007-14 compared to 2015-now etc? You should redo this and not be so Fanboyish. I say this as constructive criticism because like i said your charger video was great , unbiased ,and informing, this one, not so much

It’s the same as the 07-14 LTZ.... it’s just lowered with an extra cooler. The other version is lifted 2” and has the same exact hp/tq. I have one and if you get the computer flashed for the mph limiter it’s the same.... great vid though

I just ran across my own comment from 4 years ago! And still, I daily drive my Tahoe for work, etc. The only issue I have had is my negative battery cable shorted out about 2 years ago and replaced that with no problem. I have had no further issues and I still love my 2009 Tahoe. I do my own oil changes at regular intervals and other regular maintenance and she keep rolling. I've been thinking about PPV'ing it out a little hence why I landed here again. I'll keep 'till the wheels fall off.

I'm a police officer and I drive a Tahoe everyday. I also drive a PPV Tahoe as my personal vehicle. I don't know what kind of police Tahoe your uncle drives, but they absolutely will not roll, or tip over. They're unbelievably stable.... at any speed, even during hard unexpected cornering.

NFL YoungBoy well it's not like Chicago gets speed chases, they tip because they're down by untrained morons
@carycoller31406 жыл бұрын
@@AbelG8781 I'm not sure who the morons are you refer to, but in my department nobody gets issued a Tahoe until they've completed a five day driving course, which includes high speed pursuit driving, hard turns while braking, and sharp turns at pretty high speed. Trust me, Tahoe PPV's are not prone to tipping over.
