"they do this with all their products".... then why haven't they fixed it? Sending instructions for the wrong bike is not acceptable. Mine came exactly as LS describes in this video - no valid instructions, no link to the installation video and absolutely nothing on configuring the LCD for race mode (or any other mode for that matter). Great bike for sure but the lack of instructions is not acceptable.

@@jorgediazcastello282 it is a twist bike shifter and can't be on the right side like the part manufacturer intended... so upside-down on the left is the only place for it. I had to do the same when I built my 2 stroke gas bike.. the throttle had to go on the right so the shifter had to be flipped.

I bought one, before watching this video. TY for posting. Not sure much of this is valid anymore, as it is almost 2 years old. We bought ours last year (21)...Assembly was EASY (most of it was already together when shipped accept for a few pieces). Instructions were fine. Shifter was fine. Packing was snug, complete, amazing. I road it within 30 minutes of unpacking, and for MANY miles. It's something I ride now a number of times a week. No issues! Big is good IMHO. It feels solid on the side of the road. The manual is pretty good and as a "never had an e-bike before" person, I figured it out pretty quickly, as well as my wife (less experienced on bikes). I will say I did use road bike experience to assemble this for sure. But its not hard. Much of this bike is like a regular bike, just bigger. The one thing I will say, its not a "performance" bike. Seat position is VERY low, even with booster seat, and you can't really ride this thing hard. But why would you I suppose...

I have built E-bikes since my father needed one after a near fatal bicycle accident in 2007, and he wanted something that would allow him to rehabilitate. I completely understand where you are coming from, he needed something lightweight and more bicycle-like to get him back on the road. I started at that same conclusion, and over the years, my needs evolved. I have gone from building Ebikes from everything from recumbents, 700c road, MTB and comfort cruisers, and finally a stretched "Limo" style cruiser bike that I converted to do Ebike food deliveries for Uber Eats. IF all you need is a pedal bike with some assist, this is NOT the Ebike for you, if however, you like me, have come to the conclusion that you need something with more durability than a bicycle, but not as heavy as a moped/motorcycle, this might be a good choice. I ordered the Hyper Scorpion Express, as it has ALL the "bells and whistles" I built over a few years for my delivery Ebike. The difference is, NONE of what I built was as durable or practical as what this Ebike has, I had to cobble together moped and motorcycle equipment, in a failed attempt to make something with adequate lighting for riding at night, blinkers, disc brakes, and the ability to climb steep hills with out worry. This is the FIRST Ebike I have ever seen even get CLOSE to making those requirements, and it knocks them out of the park! I think honestly, it's more that perhaps, this just didn't end up being the right Ebike for you use, You might look into something like the Ariel Rider M-Class, it is a step-through with very light weight (only 47.5 lbs, Not bad most others in this style are 15 - 20 lbs heavier!) electricbikereview.com/ariel-rider/m-class/ I originally would have gotten the M-Class, but I need all the "bells and whistles" because I will use it for deliveries, and I LIKE the extra weight, it makes the bike more stable, yes, more weight does = less range, but use such as weather or not you pedal, how much cargo (rider weight) and how fast you ride makes a BIG difference. I would not expect any vehicle to have much range going flat out in Speed mode all the time, and keeping it in tall gear only effects your having to pedal harder and slower speeds, as this is a HUB motored Ebike, the gears have NO EFFECT on the motor's performance, as it only has the internal gear ratio of the Retroblade's hub motor, the gear you select is for your legs to contend with only, if this were a Mid-Drive, such as the Ariel Rider M-Class, then the bicycle gear shifter also affects the motor's gear ratio, as the power is produced at the pedals (or cranks of the bottom bracket so the motor uses the bicycle gears as transmission, unlike the hubmotor where the motor is directly inside the wheel (hub of the wheel, thus the name "hubmotor") YMMV, sorry this wasn't the right Ebike for your needs friend, and I agree, not sure why they didn't just put on a left hand throttle and put the grip shifter where it belongs on the right side, maybe because it wasn't compatible with the Display Screen? Who knows ...

It’s been a few months but if I remember correctly I got an email with instructions. Not that I would need them. There wasn’t a lot to it…..put on the handlebars and wheel and charge it till the green light comes on. I appreciate your honest review and you definitely brought up legitimate concerns, everything from some of the questionable engineering to the less intuitive website. But there was one comment you made that caught my attention and it's you saying that you were looking for an ebike to commute around town and not something built for a war zone. Juiced makes it very clear before purchasing what this e-bike is all about and that it is a high performance e-bike designed for commuting and some off-road riding. In all fairness, if you wanted just an ebike for simple commuting, then you could have gotten something much lighter with a reputable brand that has more history of customer satisfaction and something a lot cheaper than this high end e-bike. All the specs are listed in the website and there are video demonstrations of the Hyperscorpion on KZbin.

Spot on! All your points are valid because when you spend that kind of money, the least the manufacturer can do is give you a well written service manual. Proper documentation is a must, and so is a parts list. I won't settle for less. Manufacturers now just want to get their product out there - but they don't want to spend time on proper instructions, they just want to throw it all online. Ok, fine. Nobody wants to print anything anymore, it saves them paper, etc.- I get all that. BUT it's still no excuse to not provide proper documentation! (The least the manufacturer can do is give you a PDF to print out on their crappy website - this tells me a lot about the company.). And some of these shipping boxes are a joke. I'm not going to buy another bike until they get all this crap ironed out. You are right - they could do a lot better! Great video!
@zengirl75104 жыл бұрын
Their instruction video is fantastic.
@treydrier31694 жыл бұрын
Everything this guy said in the video is true except for the over engineering. I didn't even notice the gear shifter being upside down until he pointed it out. Looks like it was made for the right handlebar but they didn't have enough room on it so they put it on the left side (or the supplier gave them the wrong one and they needed to get it out and had no choice but to install it on the left handle bar). As far as unboxing and installing components, again he is correct. The instructions in the box are for another bike, not the Hyperscorpion. Luckily I did a google search and found an excellent video from Juiced on unpacking and installing the parts. Why didn't Juiced give the customer the link in the instructions? All in all it took only an hour to assemble the few required parts - head light and turn signals, handlebar, connecting electric cables, screwing in pedals). In addition, out of the box there is no 'race mode' to get the speed up over 22 mph. This was frustrating because once again there were no instructions on configuring the LCD display. I found the answer on Juiced's website FAQ on another bike unrelated to this one which took me a while to find. That's 100% inexcusable and not a positive reflection on Juiced Bikes. As far as it being "over engineered" I would have to disagree with that assessment. I was one of the very first to receive the new Hyperscorpion (received in 1st week in July 2020) and it is exactly as advertised. Super strong build quality which I appreciate. Nothing flimsy about this bike. It has a daytime running light which is added level of safety along with front and rear turning signals which is VERY much appreciated. And yes it's more of a moped than a bicycle which I knew upfront from watching the early video's. The way the cadence works with the pedals and electric motor is genius. It's very smooth and the bike goes as fast as you want it to. The suspension makes the bike even more comfortable to ride. All in all it's a great ebike/electric moped (once you get past the unpacking and lack of installation instructions).

I have seen the complaint about the shifters on Juiced bikes in few places, but that is the result of two things. 1) the shifter is only for the right hand side, due to type of shifter (the rear-rings) and 2) Juiced not having the space for it on the right side. So they have to mount it upside down. Which is why it is a Grip shifter and not some other type like a Trigger Shifter. I have seen other companies do the same thing as Juice. To make the Shifter on the left side right side up Juiced would have to make their own instead of getting one from another company. As for the rest well i can't speak to that.
@brianworden70222 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I also did the same when I built my 2 stroke gas bike.. the throttle had to go on the right side so the shifter and short grip was swapped to the left. It is weird at first but not a big deal.
@pstrap13113 жыл бұрын
The reason the grip shifter is upside down is because it is a standard bike part. The rear shifter is always on the right handle bar on a standard bike so any mass produced shifter will have to be upside down when you put it on the left bar. Duh.

I would have appreciated a manual, as well. You have to dig deep on the web site to find out how to access adjustments on the display, which is on the right,despite the little info sheet saying to look for it on the left, to get race mode available. Gear shift is upside down, but you quickly learn to shift by feel. My main issue is that I have been unable to remove the battery from the bike. Tech help says to turn key all the way clockwise, get yourself down to eye level with the key, and then yank HARD, as if you wanted to bash yourself in the face with it. It does climb my hill, (20% for initial hundred meters) at 14mph. That said, it feels like overkill on a bike path in the local wildlife refuge. If I were riding in traffic, this would definitely be the bike for that. I'm a touch under 5'6" and I love being able to put BOTH feet down at stoplight, and of course, to roar away via throttle. The mirrors and horn are great, as is the headlight, brake lights, and turn signals, though it's easy to forget to cancel them, since they are silent. It is, I must say, hard to ride it athletically, since you sit fairly low and back, like you would on a chopper or a Stingray bike. The temptation is to let the throttle do all of the work, since what you add as a rider is minimal, given the weight of the bike. I ordered mine around Halloween, and received it July 6.

I got one of the 1st Juiced Ripcurrent S fat bikes made. Came with no instructions and it was assembled wrong. I had lots of bad luck at the beginning with damage from shipping and defects. Their Juiced service department guy totally sucked too. Once I got past all that shit, my bike was awesome. I was real pissed for a while, but after the last ECU upgrade, my ripcurrent became an amazing and reliable bike. The upside down shifter you got is really unacceptable, but I'll bet when they get it squared away, they'll send you a corrected version that's right side up free of charge if you bug them about it. The key is to bug them about it like once a month. This is not an excuse for Juiced in any way, but you should know that Juiced is run by an engineer, not a management or business person. Tora spends a lot of time at his factory in China, so he's not in California that much to overrsee things. And even if he was, the company is still run like an engineer runs it, so a lot of the customer service stuff gets forgotten and instead you get a very technically advanced bike that's over built for low money comparatively. Aside from your upside down shifter, you may also find some stupid stuff like when you put your Scorpian in first gear, there's an alignment issue where the chain rubs on the inner front sprocket bashguard. Some Scorpions do that. Once again, it's an engineering thing which I think Tora considers temporarily acceptable (til he can get to fixing it) because it still functions, but with a little noise, but it gives you a wider variety of gears than the competition. As the Scorpion continues to develop, you will no doubt see improvements and corrections being made. Again, the trick is to stay on top of them and ask for them. Don't be shy! JMHO.

I have been researching ebikes for some time now and this ebike seems the best choice for me. I would like to know how to change the settings for maximum speed, although I would not use it primarily, only when I feel "the need for speed" !!! Thanks in advance.

You’re on point. I just ordered my Scorpion and will have it delivered next Tuesday. Juiced needs to include instructions and the gear shift being mounted upside down is ridiculous. I bought the Scorpion dory he form factor. It’s a cool, well-designed bike. Tao Harris certainly has a few issues to resolve.
@codymartin47714 жыл бұрын
This particular model isnt ment to be a pedal bike... youll be throttle most of the time so why complain about the shifter? its for the right side but their controller is for the right.. it works just fine and you really dont need to see the gear number to know what gear your in...
@dAzFivefoUr4 жыл бұрын
@@codymartin4771 exactly, I have a juiced ocean current that has the same shifter, that is on the right where it was designed to be, I don't use a throttle on this bike but it's a thumb control for on the left, this scorpion bike is meant to be like a moped or a scooter, so the throttle is a twist type mounted on the right like you will find on every single motorcycle or scooter, so the compromise is the shifter is on the left, not a big deal, most of the time I don't look at the numbers on the shifter, I just twist it up or down until it is in the gear that I want.
@luxuriousforce3 жыл бұрын
The reason for the shifter being upside is that shifters are designed to be on the right side for bicycles, but to mimic the way people ride motorbikes the throttle is on the right side. So rather than hold up production, they positioned the stock shifter on the left side. I would rather have that than throttle on the left, that would be awkward. All of this is explained in the videos about the bike, but I Guess it’s either to just make a video pissing and moaning about stuff than to actually go to the Juiced Bike KZbin page and do some research

I would be concerned about buying from this company. I ordered a Juice Hyper scorpion and a hour later I tried to cancel the order, wanted to place another order with them for a lighter E bike, such as a Rip Current so my wife could manage lifting of the Ebike. Befor I had the chance to get a response The next morning after my order I received a message saying the Hyper Scorpion had been shipped as the web site said it would be 7 to 10 days before shipping, I am sure it is a great bike and I feel like I did my due diligence researching not only this Ebike but many others unfortunately I did not consider the weight of the bike which is around 100 to 125 pounds and how we would move it. It takes a least 24 hours for them to respond to a email and you absolutely can not talk to anyone on the phone. If your company is so busy selling bikes hire more personal. Not happy

We have to use a motorcycle rack to haul these BTW. Consider this. You are NOT gonna be lugging this thing on a roof rack, or in the back of a pickup truck (unless you like lifting heavy awkward thing real high). I have a use both, for other "regular" bikes. But with the proper rack, its EASY!

Well, the bike is fast in Race mode, but out of Race mode it's slow. I think I've got to mess with the settings, not sure. The brakes are a big problem. A lot of people, including me, are complaining that the pads that come on the bike are loud and screech. I've already ordered new pads to replace the OEM ones. I keep it in race mode all the time, even when pedaling. Goes uphill pretty well, and sure it's gonna slow down some, but it's not too bad. It sucks up the battery pretty quick...my very unofficial guess is that you can maybe get about 25 miles in Race mode (obviously that is very dependant on hills, your weight, etc). All that being said it's a fun bike to ride. I just really wish it was a lot lighter. I think the Scrambler is about 70 pounds, if this came in at even 80 pounds it would make a big difference, you'd further and going uphill would be a little easier. Enjoy yours when you get it!

The Himiway will work but I would like to have the extra power and battery capacity that the Juiced bikes have over Himiway.

While a fair statement about instructions there is a Hyper Scorpion setup video that was released before the first hyper scorpion was delivered. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5KuqoGYibdpoqM, there is also a Facebook group dedicated to the scorpion with over eight hundred members. While I understand the reviewers perspective I personally bough this bike for different reasons. From first sight it's obvious the Scorpion blurs the line between bicycle and moped nor do they try to hide it. Juiced also sells traditional e-bikes. If you're in the market for a fat tire e-bike don't hesitate to add this to your short list versus any super 73/rad product. I don't work for juiced, just an educated buyer who has owned many e-bikes as well as past juced products.

Thanks for the comment. Granted the setup video is there, but that should be in addition to paper instructions so you don't have to keep scrolling back and forth on a video. You need to look on KZbin for safety instructions. None of the EV bikes I have came with any safety instructions. The problem with electric bikes in general ( I have 3 - 1 Hyperscorpion and 2 Enzo's) is they are inherently dangerous. You can get going very fast on this EV bike. I flew over the handlebars of my Enzo. Luckily I just bruised my entire thigh. My wife wanted me to go to the hospital but I didn't feel I needed a doctor. As it turned out, I was right. As to upside down throttle- does it work? Someone in the rush to get the bikes out fuk’d it up the cost to redesign got tossed when they saw it still performed the same. It’s China man! No regulation. Having lived abroad USA is spoiled shitless. Back to the bike; there are signal lights (most premium bikes don’t have); USB port to charge devices; fenders/mirrors/rear rack; puncture (premium) proof ties and THIRTY mph/ mag wheel in house Bafang specially design ONE thousand watt motor! @AEthelwine2 жыл бұрын
It's not an anomoly. Tora explains it was a conscious decision. The throttle is on the right, it's built like a moped more than a bike, as anyone following its production would know. It's a first world problem. 8th gear is still 8th, 1st is still first. No issue adjusting to it on my end. LOL indeed.
@eyevincast54403 жыл бұрын
There’s a reason for the shifter on the left side......the throttle on all mopeds and motorbikes is on the right. To keep the feel of a moped/motorcycle they put the throttle on the right sooooooo you won’t find a shifter for the rear cassette that’s on the left. Left shifters are for the front derailleur. To me the shifter on the “wrong side” is not a big deal. The throttle on the left would be extremely weird and again nobody makes them on the left......do you want a backwards throttle or a backwards shifter? Overall enjoy the bike. Stop bitching go out and have fun. It’s an awesome bike.
@leonspinks3 жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree with you more. It's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things...but, for me...and this is just me, when I do things, they are done right and a shifter with numbers upside down says you cut a corner. Shifter still works, and quite honestly I haven't shifted the gears once, but that doesn't mean the numbers shouldn't be right side up.
@eyevincast54403 жыл бұрын
@@leonspinks they don’t make the shifters that way. Period! The market is not large enough to make the shifter left hand for the rear gears so the standard the world standard is on the righ hand side to shift the rear gears......but because this is an ebike the throttle is right handed. That’s the world standard that’s been accepted for a throttle on mopeds and motorcycles....probably what they should of done but I’m no expert at building just riding them is to use a thumb throttle instead of a twist throttle and a trigger shifter instead of a twist shifter. and that might work.....but that takes away from the whole motorcycle feeling which was it’s initial purpose.I get what you’re saying but shimano will not make a left handle shifter for the rear gears nobody does...these guys don’t build shifters they build bikes they use what’s available to them to assemble the bike ......that’s not the fault of the ebikes builders. Nor does it make them lazy or cut corners in fact I think it’s genius they kept it extremely simple and not over complicate things. Just like shimano doesn’t build bikes they just do shifters and components of the bike and follow what has been accepted as the world standard but they don’t assemble the entire bike. Again the builders/creators used what’s available to them and that’s what the market has to offer wether it’s shimano sram whoever.... like you said you hardly even shift so not even a big deal.

Hello L.S. ! Your gripes about your juiced hyper scorpion are ENTIRELY justified! For something over 2 grand that's so interactive with the user, a comprehensive instruction and service manual is a must! No owner of ANY Ebike should have to go "in search of" how to videos on the 3rd party KZbin to piece together information. Juiced has shifted ALL the burden of referencing and learning to every owner because they are bean counters and too cheap to even provide pdfs now, which would still leave you having to print reference pages from them. Regarding the dyslexic imbeciles that don't know left from right, up from down with the shifters, this has been going on since the ODK 500 v3 debacle as I own one. (3sp hub) Juiced no longer has active support links to the ODKs on their web site, and the few parts that are available are extremely expensive. Ebikes generally are poor investments, as their values drop quickly, few bicycle shops will service them (clueless) and owners are left to their own devices to service them after the warranty expires. Stay away from companies that lack pdfs, paper manuals, parts and accessories that are mostly "sold out" such as juiced. Quality control was good when I bought my ODK in 2016 but the web site has been really cheapened. Sorry to hear about the short comings of your purchase but you have much company from other buyers as well. Regards
