Man I just went through a similar experience with my 2020 790 Adventure. I bought it brand new and within the first 500 miles it started leaking oil from somewhere at the top of the engine. A small leak that didn’t prevent me from riding the bike, but still frustrating considering it was a brand new $13K motorcycle. About a year later I decide to take it to the dealer to get it fixed under warranty. It ended up needing a new valve cover gasket and it took 5 MONTHS to get the parts from KTM. The worst part is that the bike sat at the dealer the entire time because they had to take it apart to diagnose the issue. I agree with you though, KTM makes unbelievable motorcycles, but hopefully you never need to do anything outside of routine maintenance on them.

Get a sportster 48 or a dyna, you’re living a false sense of self with that supermoto. Young padawan move paying 750 to insurance for a new ignition that cost 35 bucks and a 20 min install…. Could have bought a frame on eBay for 1300. Insurance is for bad crashes, everything else diy.

Oh man i can feel your frustration. I was just talking to a friend about this exact supermoto this evening. We both own KTMs and still ride it. Ironically my RC has been in the shop for 8 months as well cause my engine gearings blew up while riding back in November 2021.. luckily my warranty covered the damage. Anyhoo I've been watching you from the other channel since you started there but count on it that i will be watching here religiously and so will many others for sure. P.S. to my frustration with KTM. I bought myself another bike instead to fill in the void that it left behind for 8 months while waiting for the parts arrive.. It only took me 1 month of following up on my parts to eventually give up and buy another bike. Fastforward to August 2022. I just got my KTM RC back 1 month ago after i did a full on Karen as well on the General Manager. Suddenly 2 weeks after my parts arrived and it got fixed. I love my KTM it looks great and performs well! But the aftersales service is just so bad. You're right. I wouldn't recommend the KTM to anyone out of good conscience.

I started watching YN in 2021, the same time I started riding. I felt it was the best info at the time, but I always kinda thought that Yam was a bit opinionated (D) but funny. I admit that over time I grew to like him a lot, and the entire channel Josh, Courtney…all were great. But really? That last video was such a turn off…indulgent, awkward, I don’t know if Yam was bragging about letting you go cause he’s so successful? I don’t know? He even put it in the title (let him go). He should have made you a partner…like a substantial partner (35% or more). Spite If you were supportive or on board with that last video, fine, but I was not and many of YOUR fans were NOT. I’m here now because I have a feeling Yam did you wrong. I noticed you never once said to Yam thanks for the opportunity, it’s been great working here, none of that. Your heart was with your fans only, not with Yam. BEST OF LUCK

Spite was always the best thing about Yam's channel...I don't watch much of Yam's stuff these days. He generally puts out good info and can be funny, but sometimes rubs me the wrong way. And yeah, the "letting him go" video was really weird and awkward.

I share your pain w ktm when it comes to the amount of time it takes to get parts for my 390 Duke . I ordered two washers and it took 3 weeks to get those washers. A rear tire two a month and a half. A kick stand is ordered and am currently two weeks and waiting. Partly a dealer issue too. Not as bad as your situation but man. Their parts take FOR EVER to arrive to my dealer. I’ve had this bike for a little over one year and I’ve had more issues than I’d care to elaborate on when it comes to the engine and my dash just turning off mid ride . A little over a year and my kickstand rusted and cracked right in the middle. It wouldn’t be too big an issue if this bike wasn’t my daily. A wee disappointed 😐. All that said Spite, great video man.

KTM 2 stroke TPI, Transfer Port Injection bikes have a lot of problems since introduced in 2019. Many law suites apparently over engines poorly running and seizing. My 2022 seized 2 times within 12 minutes of each other. KTM did finally put a brand new motor and oil injection pump in it under warranty after the 2nd seizure. The result being it finally ran correctly. It never ran properly from day one. Never raced, all Motorex lubes used, completely stock.

Depends how strong you are. I can break 14mm bolts at will with regular hand wrenches. I cant count how many 5/8 grade 8 bolts I have broken over the years working on trucks replacing cross member bolts. So a ham fisted know it all can easily strip the threads in an aluminum engine case

@@holmes1956O Very true. I knew that when I wrote that comment there were loads of exceptions. When I said "hand tightening," I meant "finger tightening." Even then, with Aluminum, one must be ultra careful. Also, very fine pitch threading can also strip out super easily. When we share our mistakes, we make each other stronger, thanks for the reply! :D

Top tip. 1. Don’t use the steering lock when the bike is outside your house. 2. Get rid of the fixed disc lock. If the thief manages to cut through your locked chain then there is nothing to indicate that a disc lock is fitted so the thief will drop it as he tries to ride off and then it will be trashed again. The bike is insured so unless that crap cuts your insurance premiums take it off.

Here's something that could help AND have you be fully independent: Tl/dr: dynojet auto tune. Be your own tuner. It'll also scratch that geeky tweak head itch. Long story: I bought a 2016 daytona 675r (used) after I sold my street triple 765rs for ergos + better suspension/handling package. The bike came with an akra full titanium system + pcv. Now the akra comes, loaded from factory, with a wideband o2 bung and they supply an adapter that let's you mount your stock o2 sensor. So I had that going for a few days, let the ecu do its adaptation thing as best as it could. The pcv had a hindle full system map loaded which was Bleh. There were quite a few holes/floods in the fuelling, especially in the lower revs. Mind you, there are 0 dynos or dyno tuners in the area so I'm on my own with the tuning. The ecu was flashed with the factory arrow full system map so at least it was in the "safe" ballpark. After a week or so of running this setup I scored a used auto tune (people seem to want to sell theirs once their base map has been built for some reason) in really good shape, and I had a dongle for the stock o2 sensor. So I installed that and my mechanic helped me with a brilliant and super cheap solution for blocking off the SAI (secondary air injection), which I'd disabled in the ecu flash but that just kept the valves open all the time. I set up the AFR target table, dialled in the idling fuelling using the sensor data. And within 10 minutes of my first ride the real time "auto tune" was REALLY doing its magic. I could feel the sluggish throttle spots getting cleaned up and when I got home, I saw that it had actually CUT a bunch of fuel from all over the place and added fuel in the 4-6k range. Which was a revelation. You've to be a bit methodical about the throttle inputs you give it, and I found 5th or 6th gear at low speeds were amazing to iron out all the low rev stuff because it would move through the cells slower, and give the sensor+auto tune a better chance of nailing that tps/rpm range. EBay is your friend. And installation is super duper easy. Get a positap+longer power cable+crimps etc to plug the power into the rear tail light. Warning: the wideband sensor has a GIGANTIC connecter with a short wire, so some zip tie magic will need to be done to get it mounted cleanly and safely. My mechanic was a star and did a phenomenal install. I'm sure you'll ace it with your skills.

Replacing the frame would be a very long lead time repair on ANY motorcycle these days. The moral of this story is to park your bike in a safe place (garage, shed, inside your house, back yard out of sight under a cover, etc etc). Supermotos are targets for thieves.

That was the easy part to fix with head studs and a new gasket but when putting the ECU back in, 2 of the plugs are identical and so he plugged them in the wrong way and fried it, took him 6 months to find an ECU and it wasn't even a new one, was off his buddies wrecked one cause they're wasn't any available in the Oceania

Not seeing how having your bike vandalized twice during a pandemic is the fault of the bike or KTM for that matter. I feel the negative opinions targeted to the KTM SMC in this video are off base.. I’m a current owner of this bike and it’s worth every penny I paid..

It seemed to me that ever since I got this bike I kept having bad lucks one after another. I had a DRZ400SM before this. I spent more time going back and forth between dealer which is 110 miles away than ride it. 2 days after getting the bike, I notice the left shroud is closer to the fork than the right one. I found the radiator brackets are bent. I sent pictures to the dealer and called and they wanted me to ride 2 hours back to them so they could "look at it" then another 2 hours to ride back. So I did but I felt the long trip was completely unnecessary since I had pictures. They didn't even have pick up option available. After they looked at it, they claimed it was damaged during shipment and ordered parts from KTM. I was mainly a cosmetic damage but I bought a brand new bike so even though it was rideable it still triggered my OCD. In the meantime I wanted to get my first oil change done. After draining the oil, as I was screwing back my oil filter cap on the left side, I broke the screw by over tightening it. the other half was stuck in the thread and I didn't wanna attempt to extract it myself and cause even more damage. I called the dealer but like I said before, they didn't have pick up option so I had to figure out a way to take it there. I couldn't ride it because obviously there's no oil in it. I rented an Uhaul pickup and trailer for 24 hours which cost me close to $400 and some more money for ratchet strap. This was my first time using ratchet to tie down a bike and it took me some time to figure out. I drop the bike off. Over a month has gone by and I still don't get a call from them. I call them and talk to them in a passive aggressive manner and they say they're still waiting for the radiator to arrive. 2 days later they say it's fixed and I could pick it up. I get a sigh of relief and get an Uber next day there to pick it up. Uber cost me another $200. I finally ride the bike home 110 miles and on my way I notice the engine overheat light keeps coming up when I stop at lights and I could feel the engine over heating. At this point I can't ride it back to the dealer because they'll be closed when I go back. So my only option is to go home and take it to the dealer again some other day to fix it. I tried to turn it off at lights to prevent it from overheating when riding home. At high speed the light goes away because the air cools it down. I call the dealer the next morning and ride it back 2 hours again. They say they forgot to plug in the radiator fan plug when installing the new radiator. They fix the issue and I ride it back. Now the radiator and oil filter cap is finally fixed and I could finally move on to installing mods. I make an appointment with another dealer which is "motorcycle mall" in New Jersey to install a preload adjuster. After a week I get the part installed for $380 and I provide them the part I bought. As soon as I receive it, I notice a few deep scratches on the beautiful trellis frame which looked like someone hammered on it. I told the employees immediately and they took pictures of it and said they'd call me after they review before pictures of it. Luckily I had a before picture of it from the day before. Weeks go by no call from the dealer. I had called them multiple times since then and every time they say the manager will call me back but it never happens. The employees talk in a rude manner saying "it's still rideable" to which I reply, "if I smacked one of your bikes in the show room with a hammer and said "it's still rideable" would you just let me walk away without any consequences? I've heard horror stories about that dealer from someone else in my area who also rides a 690. They serviced his engine and put water instead of coolant. I still haven't heard back from the manager. Days later I notice a slow leak on my rear tire. I didn't wanna deal with the other 2 dealers so I took it to a 3rd dealer. They keep the bike in their shop for a month only to tell me the rim band for rear tire still hasn't arrived. I sent another $200 to pick up the bike that hasn't even been fixed. I ordered the bike in May and now riding season is over and I probably got 2 or 3 days of riding out of it the whole summer.

i once crashed a duke 390 and the damage wasn't so bad, it needed a gas tank, a radiator, maybe handlebars and new plastics but that was about it, my insurance told me "we can fix your bike, but we just got another duke that needs some parts your bike could donate, are you ok wit us totalling your motorcycle and giving you the money" and i was like, sure, it sounds like a great deal, i took that money, went straight back to the KTM dealer and got me an RC390 without pulling a single penny out of my pocket. i've been getting my bikes insured with them ever since because even though it was just a less comfortable version of the same bike getting a new toy was far more pleasant than just waiting to see how long it was going to take for me to get my old toy back.

“StoryTime with Spite and the Old Man in the Sea”!!!! I feel the pain; wish I had seen this earlier about KTM/Covid. Ordered a 390Duke in Nov21 - didn’t take delivery until May 22. Upon Delivery Immediately ordered a 890R Duke which then arrived with crate damage and still waiting for parts now in Sept22…. At least the 390 is one of the funnest bikes of all time but I want my R!!!! 😭

Every second sentence you hear from a motorcycle shop is a lie. If you are at the mercy of a really really shitty one, you are even more screwed. If a shop gets something like in your case, a really problematic or complicated repair, or parts you need which are not available, they will most likely delay the repair on purpose, because with other things they can make more and quicker money. Sometimes they wait so long that the owner will pick his broken bike up and will never come back. Which is best case for the shop and worse case for the owner.
