I don't have any plants growing in leca but I love watching your videos and seeing different ways of growing plants. I have a large maidenhair fern in a terra cotta pot and soil outdoors. Central Texas has had extremely high temps the past 2 months. Somehow it is surviving. Maidenhair ferns grow wild in some places around here - places near rivers and creeks and in cool, shady grottos. I'm 70 yrs old and remember them growing beside the creek next to our home when I was growing up. My favorite fern. 😊 🌿

Thank you for watching. I appreciate the comment. Everyone does things differently and are at different stages in their plant journey. If this is not for you, I appreciate that. If you don't see the point of it then it is clearly not for you. Thank you for watching.

Great and informative video 😊Thank you thank you thank you for it😁 I have been growing all my houseplants in leca since 1999 and since that have been a maidenhair fern and fern killer in general🙈 Ferns have been the most difficult to transision to leca and its great to see that you might just crack the code to fern transisioning from soil to semihydro😊 I just bought yet a new maiden hair fern yesterday to try for the millionth time to transfer her and omg along came your video 😁🤩 Here in Finland shops do not sell clonex solution or root riot so I have to improvise with some similar products if I can find some. Sorry if my english is funny😁

The stores here have ferns like crazy and I've had a maiden hair before and it did great until it didn't. The issue is, right now my ambient humidity is 70 percent. Come winter it normally drops to 30 percent so unless I'm buying for a terrarium, it's almost guaranteed to be a throw away as I can't keep my humidity above 45 consistently in the winter. I did buy a thicker leaved heart fern and I got it a little cloche (it's only in a 5cm pot) so I'm hoping I'll be able to manage it a bit better than the tender leaves of the maiden hair! I'm still using soil due to knowing the floor just gets too cold for plants in a water solution, but it always amazes me when I unpot a plant from the store, of any kind. Most of them can easily be potted down a size or two once you take the excess soil off, but so many ppl bring them home and repot without disturbing the roots and as a result have to upsize, then they wonder why they get root rot so quickly. Even if you can see roots on the outside by pulling the plant out, the inside soil is almost always root free and very wet! I know with the leca you can't really over size the pot BC there is so much air but I see so many ppl saying "should I repot?" When a plant has like one long root on the bottom and no other visible one's, all BC the roots have sought out the edges of the pot BC in the greenhouse they get humidity and oxygen on the outside of the pot! I love your hair styles in this one Nora! The color looks so amazing on you! 😍

Hey Marisa! Long time no see! So many comments, it is hard to get to all of them. It is all about the balance right, your environment vs what you want to to do. But yeah, a maidnehair is just so beautiful. Thank you for the compliments. I am sick of the blue now, it has got to go! Might go back to purple. Blue and purple are the only colours I can find. I draw the line at pink braids. I think that would be a bit much, although my 7 year old disagrees!

In your experience, what difference does an air stone make versus without when plants are already in leca? I love watching your videos! They’ve convinced me to start trying leca conversion for some of my non-aroid plants.

Hi, great job. I have a question I have a bird of paradise that has root rot and I removed it from Soli and made it semi-hydro, but still has a problem I removed it cut the rotted root, and put it in hydrogen-proxied is it ok to Keep it to water and give hydrogen-proxied to start rooting in water after that move it to Leca? thanks

I think the problem is just the humidity, leaves are very very thin and get dry quickly. It has to live in very humid environment because it is a fern. Have you tried to put it close to humidifier?
@TheLecaQueen

That is true. A humidifier helps in this case.

Your Maidenhair fern is lush! I'm seeing why you love LECA. I'm new to planting in LECA. I did a Syngonium Mojito as an experiment. She just put out a new leaf, and it's HUGE! So glossy and healthy looking! My other experiment is doing excellent as well. Love the Foliage Focus!!! Just ordered the large container.

I know it's not exactly the same, but I have one of these living on a log in an aquarium. The roots are 25% above the water, or rather the rhyzome, and the rest is all submerged. It was actually dying before I did this, and since the move it has exploded with growth. I suspect yours will thrive in leca, and they definitely don't require soil. When I find these in the woods where I love, many are half in a stream and half in very low nutrient, rainforest detritus-like soil. They seem highly adaptable. One thing I have noticed is that they absolutely hate hard soil with poor drainage. That isn't surprising for a fern, but I've seen them in various gardens in these conditions and it's one they don't seem to adapt to.
