When I heard the opening statement I was about ready to bash this video, but turns out, everything he said was pretty much on point. My 240sx Convertible was a pain after rebuilding the motor it does have forge steel rods and crank, but pistons are pretty crappy. They can handle 8 PSI boost if you turbo it, but if your like me, you will turn the boost of and creak some ring lands quick. The only other thing is the bucket style cam followers require shims to adjust cam to valve clearance, which can be complicated. For the most part, if you are building a toy car, expect to break things and rebuild them. Be a tunner, not a ricer!

When I was younger my father acquired a 1991 240SX that he planned on giving to me as my first car. It sat in the driveway until I got my license. When I finally got my license, the very first thing I did was trade it flat out for a 1990 Camaro Berlinetta.. My dad owned a restored Chevelle, my brother owned a '79 Camaro Z28, and I just wanted to be like them. I wanted American muscle. Worse decision I ever made. The 240 ran beautifully. Low miles, it was perfect for me. The Camaro was a heap of shit. Trans blew on me in the first few months. The replacement blew on me 2 days after I got it. Ended up abandoned in a friends apartment complex since I couldn't afford to fix or tow it.... If only I could go back in time, my entire life might be different if I just appreciated the 240 I was given.

Actually you're wrong about the 240SX Ka engine, you put a turbo on that, and you can easily get 250 to 300 horsepower, but the torque numbers are ridiculous. Let's just say they usually exceed the horsepower by about 50 in foot pounds. Got to remember the KA was a truck motor . It was a Torque Pig basically.

I've had my 200sx RS13U (european spec, which comes with the CA18DET) for 14 years. I bought it from an 82 year old man, Mr Price, who stayed in my home town, Cape Town South Africa. He imported it brand new in 1992 from Belgium to South Africa. I bought it from him (I was the second owner from brand new) for R18 000 ($1158) in 2008, it had 78 000km (48 000 miles) Full service history, everything was OEM, including the rims, radio, sunroof bag, full tool kit and jack and some other OEM goodies from Nissan in Belgium. After 14 years of ownership, she still puts a smile on my face, hearing the turbo and exhaust sound. Looking at her all polished and clean always makes me think what a beautiful car that Japanese made. My 200sx still is OEM, with a full service history, original radiator, original shocks, original springs (never cut), still stock height, original rims, original midnight blue paint, the only upgrade i ever did to my car, was a stainless steel exhaust and T28/T25 turbo, original exhaust manifold, original injectors. She is making a reliable 158kws and 285nm. The current milage is a very healthy 184 000kms (114 332 miles) still full service history, i change the oil and oil filter every 5000kms (3100 miles). If you guys would like to see pictures of my car follow me on instagram @200sx_ca18det

You also got to remember, if this is going to be a first Drifter car for somebody, you might want to not have too much horsepower. What's your forgetting to mention is the engine also put out a hundred and sixty-three foot pounds of torque at less than 4000 RPMs. You kind of forgot that part buddy, you kind of forgot that part.

I recently found my KA24DE 93’ 240sx with no rust and for only $1500 It had no issues except for the fact it had no rear seats nor carpet. Most of the issues listed can be fixed rather easily, it’s my first car and has gotten me around for the entire summer with little to no problems except for a knock sensor shitting itself. It constantly gets me looks and people coming up to talk to me about it. The good part about rust is it means you don’t have a care what happens to it, that makes them even easier to get into drifting I’m driving probably one of the few pristine examples of a 240sx left in the world and I’m constantly in fear of even modifying it one bit. But I guess I’ll overcome that when my coils come in

Well he got some of the stuff right. The 240sx was a good car to get for their time, but now I advise people to steer clear of them. Reasons why. 1: way over priced. 2: most ain't complete anymore. 3: most suffer with mechanical issues ( it over 20 years old ) 4: has been through atleast ten different owners. And I noticed alot of the people who owned these have little to zero mechanical knowledge. Also are broke and do all the work on the car themselves. So be prepared for missing or broken pieces of the car, and zip ties and glue fixes. 5: better options on the table now with better prices and less headaches. If you have to own one, then go right ahead but don't say you weren't warned. Also don't pay that ridiculous price for a 20+ year old clunker. Cars that would be better for you and your money. 1: 350z. 2: brz, frs, 86. 3: mustang, camaro. 4: g35. 5: genesis coupe. 6: miata, mx5.

Its still going strong. I also have a bone stock ka24e s13 that I dally drive now. (Stock minus fuel pump, pbm pro coilovers, 5 lug swap, welded diff and wheels.) Its the most fun daily driver ever. Not that slow bc it's so light. Plenty of room. Handles amazing. Turns heads everywhere! I would highly recommend replacing every suspension piece though. New bushings too. I think many people that dislike or disagree with this video are clearly missing the point. Due to the popularity of this car (and the kids obsessed with it) you never find that often an actual honest look at what a 240sx actually is. Even if people have engine swapped it or put a turbo in it, (as if that costed 2€) that doesn't mean anything, an actual real one is what it is. So overall, good video, it was informative enough to be useful, not perfect but it doesn't deserve that like/dislike ratio.

Can you do a before you buy on the Subaru WRX. So many car journalists call it more reliable then a evo and sometimes “bullet proof”, but thats when that thing is stock. Throw a mod on it and boom, tons of issues. I have heard so much about ringland failure to the point where people say it is a issue from stock. I know WRXs can be fun cars, hell I have a 2017 one. But I don’t want kids to save up and buy a heep of shit modded wrx because some car journalists driving a stock one called it “bulletproof”. You have to take modding on the WRXs seriously because people tell you these are not fragile motors and that is bullshit these are very fragile motors.

This video! - We beat the crap out of the 240sx(es) and they were reliable as hell. The mechanical issues you are describing sound like issues that come with any car that is older. Not to mention, for the day and age those cars came out, they were comparable to most 4 cylinder sports cars of the time. Anyways, just dont see that being the case with 240s

I spent a year replacing rusty metal in my spare time and fixing crushed areas where it was jacked up in the wrong places. All the metal is so thin like the frame rails that run under the cab are a joke they not even welded together front to back. I have a uz in mine so a swap too. It is a real fun car to drive. Where i'm at I can't find replacement parts for interior pieces exterior stuff is hit and miss, when you do find them they are stupid expensive. I had a leaky fuel tank and the sender was broken, no new replacement there either. fuel cell was installed to fix that problem. I suppose if your not really into the 240 your not going to put up with all the annoying things that come with it. I have had an assortment of other import brands, the nissan I think is the most fun to drive but the the crappy build quality and hard to find parts is annoying. It wouldn't have hurt them to use thicker metal in structural areas.

There are no coil packs on KA engines. They have dizzies and a single coil on the fender. Those motors may not be fast but they last a long time and have more torque than similar motors of the era. S13s only cost a lot if you do a lot a modifications like swap in SR motor in. Otherwise doesn't cost a lot on stock stuff.

Any old car daily driven and not garage kept = a lot of money. I get what you’re trying to do with the video, but the information is just unnecessary and can be generalized. It’d be better if you did some real research and talked about common issues buyers would need to look out for to you know, save them some overpaying or be better prepared for. A SOHC engine with 155hp, with a 0-60 time of 8.8 seconds doesn’t really mean anything. It doesn’t stop people from buying a beat ass CRX, EG hatch, AE86, Miata, Z32, 240z, and so on. Not trying to bash you or anything, just giving you my opinion and hopefully it’ll help you make better ones in the future. And tbh, with the S13’s aftermarket, I feel like everything to the last bolt can be replaced, other than the actual frame, but I don’t have one and haven’t actually looked at everything available, just know they have one of the biggest aftermarkets.

I think allot of this is incredibly obvious mainly because this car (along with any other drift car created in the late 80's/ mid 90's) is over 20 years old. If you have enough of a budget to willingly purchase a 20 year old car, chances are you have enough money to maintain it. Think about your neighbor on the street who has a really old 57 chevy. HE clearly has the resources to maintain the thing . Think before you buy my dudes.

From watching this video I cringe at all the info you've stated. I think you're forgetting one thing, these cars are 25 + years old. They're like any other older car. You keep up with maintenance and it'll treat you right. You didnt state how simple the car is to work on. You didn't mention the tq of the ka. The ka is a great motor to learn on especially if you're trying to drift. They're reliable and will take a beating.

And if they say anything about the timing chain u have to take the whole engine apart its like 12 hours of labor just for a timing chain so at that point rebuild it. If you dont have money to spend stay away.

Also all the bs complaining about a 20+ yr old car is just crazy. In terms of rust, I've seen 10yr old cars rust faster than some these old cars. And I find it more reliable than some of the newer stuff. In stock form, you basically have a sporty chassis with the same base engine found in the truck...meaning very reliable...this is of course not including the unreliable things people tend to do to it like turbo, lowering the car, etc..

I think your basing this video off of a stock 240. I'm about to buy one that was swapped and is rust free. Most 240s for sale are swapped and upgraded.

Most of the crap this guy points out...most would not matter to someone buying it to rebuild into a decent drift car. Most of the crap would get fixed or replaced. Anyone buying a car from 89-94 shouldnt expect to not have to do much to the car.

Yeah unfortunately this gentleman seems slightly misinformed on the Nissan 240sx... I own two, they are perhaps the greatest cars I have ever owned and are amazing all around. Yes stuff breaks, stuff goes wrong but thats just about the same as every car Parts are widely available and unless you’re looking for certain OEM parts then you can find them everywhere I feel like you should purchase and own one before making a video on it as you seem to not know much about the car
