In 2019 I paid $80 for a VIP package for Phil Anselmo and the Illegals. About 30 of us got to hang out in a backstage area with the band for about an hour. Got to meet everyone, Phil included. Phil’s wife used our own cell phones to take a ton of photos as we got our individual moments with Phil and the band. Phil gave out lots of hugs, fist bumps, and handshakes. As well as spending 5-10 minutes talking to each person, as did the members of the Illegals. Everyone personally signed a limited edition poster that was included in the meet/greet cost. Super cool and a special experience. As a long time Ghost fan, these VIP packages are insulting and I feel sorry for those spending this kind of money. I imagine there are no personal meetings with the band or photos out of precaution due to a virus that went around a few years ago. My take- either meet with the fans who pay extra or don’t offer VIP packages.

It’s wild because just a few years ago, Ghost offered full meet and greets with personal one on one photos with Papa for just a fraction of what these new VIP “experiences” cost. He’s charging more and offering less than what he used to do. That’s without the phones being locked away in pouches.

Look, man, I'll level with you. I paid for seated tickets to see several bands over the summer because my wife loves them. Some shows were in an arena, and some were in outdoor venues. We even paid ~$500 (on top of the ~$200/ticket) for pit/VIP passes with Meet & Greet" with select folks that she really loves, so figure around $750/ticket. The "Meet & Greet" was a conveyor belt of fans all waiting for 5 seconds to stand with whoever get their picture taken while doing some form of ✌/🤙/👆/🖕/🤘 , then be shuffled out the door and back to the general areas ahead of the show. If it were a one-time thing, I'd mark it as being just that band/person. But it was all of them. There was no dedicated merch stand, or even concessions. You were basically paying a TON of extra money just to do a quick picture and then move on. That, to me, was a massive waste of my time and money. The concerts were good overall, don't get me wrong, but that "meet and greet" bullshit is overrated in my experience. Concerning Ghost having VIP packages, that to me sounds more like a VIP than what I've seen at previous concerts. Would I like a picture with the band? I guess? I'd much rather get a signed tour poster. I mean, Ghost is a "theatrical" band. They're all wearing costumes and masks. You could put some random roadie there for pictures and tell them "Yeah, that's a nameless Ghoul" and nobody would be able to call you out on it. I don't want or need a picture, or to meet them before the show. I love the "mythos" and the history of the characters of the band, especially the Papas. Going backstage to meet Tobias would break that immersion. Yeah, it's an act, and it's a show. But I'd much rather pay to tour the stage because I'm a theater nerd, then have something signed over a photo op with them. I'd put a signed tour poster up on my wall. I probably won't ever look at those meet and greet photos again.
@Mbenton199125 күн бұрын
I agree with you! We’ve seen them twice flew to Philadelphia from Florida the first time because we wanted to travel and then saw them last time they toured in Tampa. They put on one of the best shows I’ve ever been too. I took my son to his first show to see them with Spiritbox and mastodon we all painted our faces and dressed up and had a blast. I even have a video of Tobias coming in front of us on stage and waving at my son. People need to realize that yes the prices are ridiculous but the bigger bands get the more the prices will go up. I’ve spent an ungodly amount to see other bands like tool,sleep token etc. I also don’t think the vip package where you get to see the memorabilia and the stage setup is too crazy because so much goes into the lore and production of their sets and all the papa’s. People bitch and I get it shits expensive but if people have the money and want to spend it to see a band they love them who cares let them have fun and make memories. Meet and greets don’t always go well anyways you could catch members on a bad day and it impact your views on them from how they acted/treat you.
@AKayfabe14 күн бұрын
I went to see Till Lindemann at a venue that offered VIP experience and then regular tickets too. The VIP was not even something offered by the band, or by Till it was offered at all concerts at that venue and it was solely the venues policy. The venue told me it means you get your own seat, a private bar, a private bathroom and you get in early so you can stand in front if you want. we ended up with general tickets, not VIP and we still ended up in the front row, we didn’t need a private bar because the bar in the general area was really accessible. another thing about that particular concert is that VIP seating in that venue places you on a platform back father, so if you wanted to be in front because Till basically throws cake and stuff and messes up the front few rows with dead fish and water and stuff (sort of like how GWAR does), then you would not want the VIP seat anyhow. The merch booths were the same ones for anyone no matter if you were VIP or not. And the venue doesn’t include meet and greets with the VIP anyhow. If you want to meet a band, you basically stand outside after and wait. I wonder if the band Ghost did this offer. Or if like the concert I saw, the venue offered this expensive package and it wasn’t worth the price.

The bigger a band gets, the less likely one of these VIP packages will include a meet and greet. Ghost is playing to 10,000 plus people on arena tours. They are beyond the point where they (Tobias) needs the money. I think the VIP packages are stupid and have never done one for any band for all the reasons mentioned but read the description and act accordingly folks.

Well, the one reason to get the VIP tickets is that it will be the only chance to get to the front since the VIPs have an earlier entry than GA. And with the most expensive VIP category, you have a guaranteed spot on the barricade. Which to me is absolutely worth it (not specifically for this band), since I’m only going to the show to see the performance and being short I need to be in the front to have a decent view. I don’t care about „feeling like a VIP“ or meeting the artists. But it’s for sure a personal choice. ☺️

I belong to alot of these bands fan clubs especially to get early access to tickets and best seats available but alot of the seats nearer the stage now are listed as premium seating,special seating areas and can cost between 200-300 plus! Yes there are cheaper seats available but much further back or in the gods! I had a Ghost ticket in my basket for london yesterday,a great seat near the stage,over £200! I didnt buy it,i just cant keep paying these prices. I then read comments in the fan sites and people are saying i got 2 vip,i got 3 vip tickets,how the heck do general people afford this? Im glad i grew up when i did and got to see all the greats,many times because its impossible now. I would have loved a photo. I would love to see them again,but the people i want to go with don't want to travel,and i must say these vip they are offering are not worth it if you don't get to meet them and get a photo with them. The swag is cool,but all i want is to meet them,get a t-shirt and photo with them and if possible a minute of their time to talk,and go. The 1,600 is sad and ridiculous,abd i am a big-time Ghost fan. Also, they are doing a thing where when you enter the show,your phone has to be in this pouch that locks during the show,and if you want to use your phone,you gave to go to a designated area,if you are caught with your phone out,you will be removed from the show. I understand they don't want people to be on their phones the whole show,but i would like to take like 3-4 pics max. Something you know. But i get it and understand. Bonus points for all the KISS memorabilia behind you!! As a massive KISS fan first, Ghost fan second, I'm confident in how this is presented to a band. I believe there's a misconception where people think Tobias himself has thought up what VIP packages will entail and what it will cost. Where its most likely a tour is discussed and planned and then companies are hired to handle promotion, booking, production, and tickets and VIP packages. It may or may not have been approved by Tobias, but I don't think he had as much say in its creation as you may think. Gone are the days from when I was young and going to shows where you'd hang around the back door to the arena and hope to meet the band. As a KISS fan, you of all people should know, Paul Stanley once threw his broken guitars in the crowd after he smashed them. In the band's final years, you had to pre-purchase them for thousands if you wanted one. This is the nature of the concert experience circa the 2020s. Don't expect it to change.

They are coming to my area on this upcoming wasp tour and I didn’t hesitate to buy another meet and greet with them Also I got a signed photo a sinch sack guitar picks a lanyard with vip badge and then we got to go To the merch booth and pick out a free shirt which is great because we didn’t have to wait in the long line while everyone is entering and risk not getting to front of the stage and also it ensured you’d be able to get the shirt you want in your size. I was gonna buy a shirt anyways which is always $40 so ultimately the experience and the extra goodies I got besides the shirt were $75. A great value in my opinion

The local radio station would do free concerts Downtown Orlando. Roger McGuinn sat at a table after and signed autographs for free. He signed my Byrds box set booklet. Ted Nugent signed his box set booklet for me also free and I took a photo of him and his wife at a bookstore. He did give me a little of a hard time for taking my time focusing(it was film and not auto focus). He said if I was trying to shoot a deer it would be gone and you would be eating chicken. As I was leaving he said you would be eating chicken again. Funny story connected to it, they all have such egos. They don't realize that there are plenty of people who don't even know who they are. There was a fairly long line, he was selling his book You have to kill em to grill em and arrows with his name on them. There were a couple of teenage girls in the store. Tobias Forge is a big fan of the Kiss “let’s milk them for all they’re worth” school of economics. Cool if you can afford it but those prices are ricockulous. The last Ghost concert I saw was the tour right before they started playing arenas. Tickets were still about $45 for GA and once they got big, that ticket more than doubled in price and then the pandemic hit. I will be getting the 4K disc of the Rite Here Rite now tour and that’s at a reasonable price of $25.

The worst VIP experience I had was Lamb Of God. They had a package that gives you “Sidestage access” for the first 3 songs of their set, only you don’t get to go on stage….. they literally bring you to a closed section right beside/behind the stage and you stand in the seats of the venue in a platform by the stage to watch. Absolute waste of money and not what was described. You’re like 25 feet away from the stage. They literally get the venue to set up a platform over top of the venue seats , and you walk on it. If I remember correctly I think I Paid like over $250 for it. Lamb is amazing and always incredible in concert, I love all the guys in the band, but that VIP experience was rediculous. I literally could’ve walked myself to that same section and stood there. In the same spot for free….. the only cool thing of the package was you got a signed poster.

Being honest they seem to think that they are big enough to ask for THIS much giving little in return. Comparing it to legendary bands like Iron Maiden its laughable. For GAEE I paid less than for VIP tickets for a lesser band which Ghost is. Few years ago, when Ghost was in Katowice, in Poland, normal ticket cost 150 pln, now they ask for same ticket around 500. IM GEE cost around 450 and now they asked around 600. Do You see the difference? Xd I can understand price going higher due to inflation, but it being doubled is just something else.

I've been wanting to see them for a few years now but it hasn't worked out (first time they were literally at the venue in my hometown but I was on vacation before I got into them, second time the guy I was dating got us tickets but then by the time the concert came he was going through a midlife crisis and ran away to italy during the time) this is the 3rd time and they're going to be at Madison Square Garden which is such a perfect place, only a train ride away. I got really great floor seats for 175 dollars each and it might seem like a lot but I compared it to any broadway show - it's literally the same price. I'm a little sad about the no phones thing only because I like to record a few clips for my memories but again I'm comparing it to a broadway show - you can't film those so it'll be an all in experience. I'm very excited to be able to finally see them after being a massive fan for a few years now but I can understand being disappointed, it's how to focus your perspective.

Great vid! Answers some of my own questions of value and “what happens” during such experiences. But to expand on the issue, how do you feel of opening local bands buying VIP packages to meet a band they are already sharing a stage and backstage? I get it that just because you open doesn’t make you friends, but one would think it would at least grant a meet and greet and pics?
@Backstage_Politician25 күн бұрын
I love Ghost and think it's bullshit you can't bring your phone in and they would even have VIP packages without a meet and greet and a signed picture. People want to look at pictures and video to remember the the their experiences. This is extremely disappointing. This is also coming from the band that pushed back alongside us against security that made people wipe their face paint off.

Tobias' thinking on that is very anti-fan. Especially to force it throughout the whole venue. Many people are in the moment and want to grab some pics or video amid it... and simply want their device to browse before and between sets. A compromise would be no devices in the pit... and then let people choose their seats accordingly. Those in further back areas should be able to use the zoom on their device to see better if they want to.

Saw Avenged Sevenfold 7 years ago and got a “VIP Package” you got early entry which was a few hours early, a museum of avenged stuff which was kinda cool, you got to play their instruments, which was the cheap signature models so even if you play and wanted to show off alittle the guitars were not set up properly and were unplayable! 😂 You got a drawstring bag and Avenged book, not sure if these were available to the normies, you could choose between GA floor or front row, and during the museum thing you had access to an exclusive bar and 1 free drink ticket. All of this was under $300, maybe I’m remembering wrong though. But after all that I said to myself I’d never do it again lol. The museum was the coolest thing but even that wasn’t really worth it. Also there was ALOT of just standing around

We did the Kiss soundcheck vip upgrade last year at Glasgow Hydro. We were 171 quid for our ticket and another 200 quid for the soundcheck. It was worth every penny. Right in front of the stage, Gene and the boys talking to everyone. Doc came out and greeted us. Throwing picks, asking what we wanted them to play. Loved every minute.

actually pit tickets are at least around $300 or so.. cheapest tickets seem to be 82$ but I'm sure it will be much more with fan demand and dynamic pricing first day of general sales post presale Friday. and also you cant film or use your phone during any show on this tour. i saw ghost twice in 2016 and 2018 and it was so cheap then and at small intimate venues its so much better than what they've become

When I got the VIP package for Satch there was no photo unfortunately, just a 30-minute Q&A with Joe before the show and an item of our choice autographed by Joe. Even the autograph though wasn't in person. We handed it to a roadie or whomever and they took it to Joe to autograph and then we picked them up after the Q&A.

These definitely are getting out of hand and I think the days of a worthwhile VIP, whether that's a meet and greet or not, have sadly gone. I've paid for M&G with Anthrax (twice) and Slayer and they were all worth it. But the last time Slipknot played in Scotland we paid for non M&G VIP and it was cheap enough to be worth it. Got in early with the lanyard and all that, but we got barrier right in front of Corey (and Nergal for the record) and was totally worth it. On the way out you picked up a sweet bag of goodies with some great items in it including 9 portraits of the band. My son and I both got one so I sold mine on Ebay to make my VIP money back :) We then met Corey a few years later at a horror convention and got him to sign his portrait. BTW the horror convention M&G with Corey was £60 as was the pic opp. Couldn't believe how cheap it was! Gigs aren't the only place to meet these guys ;)

Hey guys, I have a question and cant find an answer so I'll just ask here: I bought my (not vip) ticket over the official ghost website over ticketmaster. Now ticketmaster tells me the tickets will arrive four weeks before the show. I've already googled if ticketmaster is legit, and it says yes. I'm confused because normally, tickets arrive after 4 days or something. Any ideas why it takes so long? Have I been scammed? Or am I just paranoid and it's normal

This will be my 2nd time see Ghost, I usually get seats as close as possible. HOWEVER - they are playing Ball Arena in my area and the seats there are like cramming sardines into a can. Everyone is touching knees and shoulders. I saw Iron Maiden there on Oct. 19th, and it was awful due to not having any room. I'm a small person, but my ass could barely fit between the chairarms... So I spent the $450 to get GAPIT tickets, which honestly wasn't much more than the seated tickets. They are my favorite band though lol so I'd like to get as close as possible if i can't use my phone (cause ya girl is bliiiind)😂
@aionanyx446218 күн бұрын
VIP is not worth the overpricing -- tickets are already overpriced. Pit tickets at the closest show to me are $200+ for one ticket. Tickets for the sections behind that are over $130. Shit seats are $80. The cheapest seats are even pushing it for a single working mom. Then there's the cost of travel, and considerations for someone to watch my child. I'm not keen on being 2 hours away from my kiddo as it is, and not having my phone readily available is a big NO. Not just because I won't be able to be contacted immediately, but because locking your phone away at a concert -- especially as a single woman -- is locking away your first line of defense. Concerts have not been the safest of places historically, but safety HAS increased as a result of cell phones. Those prone to criminal activity are less likely to act on their impulses when everyone's cell phone is out and recording, or when someone they're targeting has a phone in their hand. For several reasons, it's a big NOPE from the single mama in the crowd.

Where do I start, I went to see them in Australia last time they were here, only because most my mates love them ,I did not , way too soft for me,just normal g.a. For the first time ever fans were not allowed to line up outside till 8 a.m. I got there about 2 hours before they were due to go on, some people got in then they stopped the rest of us. The people that got in were not allowed in the venue as the roadies were still setting up the stage, apparently for the third time the support band which had traveled all the way from the middle of Australia could not go on as the trucks had not arrived till 4.30 . So the rest of us were in line in the freezing cold for another hour, they finally let us in when we started making more fuss as it had started to rain. We were told ahead of time no photos or phones, we got right up the front but had to stop on the line at the end of the barrier, that never happened before this either, anyway watched the gig could not see what all the fuss was about, all the girls in nuns outfits. The only thing I got out of this gig was a few ghost money from the floor.

If I was Forge I'd also be a bit apprehensive about meeting all the blue haired, they/thems congratulating me on my "ghovie" and showing me their weird tattoos of Papa 2 to get a positive reaction. I love that the band is so theatrical and that it follows a story that'll get you hooked instantly, but unfortunately that equips a lot of people to take the whole arm, instead of just the index finger and ruin the whole thing. That's just my guess. Can't wait for the new album!!!

The issue isnt the band, its the market combined with the fans willing to pay for that. As they say dont hate the player hate the game. Bands make most of their money off of touring these days, all of them come up with gags to squeeze the most amount of money out of it as they can. Do i think its crappy that they dont offer more in a VIP, sure, but they wouldnt do that if fans refused to pay it. The terms are clearly laid out on their VIP section, if someone is willing to pay that kind of money for what they get, thats on them. Think about it from the bands perspective, if you could charge what they do for what they are offering and you know the experiences will still most likely sell out, wouldnt you? You could still make the argument they could offer a meet and greet with it but think about it, unless its papa you would just be taking a picture with a ghoul, and how do you know that theyre not just dressing up some roadie in a ghoul suit, someone that doesnt even play an instrument. Also if it is with PAPA or a Ghoul, now you have to hire extra security which costs money, and now you risk transmission of sickness, and then if the band had to cancel a show because of sickness people would complain about that. "what is the fear of hanging around their fans", maybe you should ask that question to John Lennon, Selena, Christina Grimmie, etc... and as pointed out, this isnt some 70's classic rock band, Ghost by nature has a lot of passionate and over the top fans. Add onto that, that they have a whole population of Christians that hate them for their satanic imagery and lyrics, see where im going with that? Sure you could prevent incidents but again it goes back to the whole hiring more security, more money deal. Taylor Swift is the most popular artist on the planet right now, her VIP is almost identical in what it offers but even less with no stage access at all, and some of the packages are more than double what Ghost is charging. She could probably charge over 1000k a piece for meet and greet and people would pay it so why doesnt she offer it either? Their are other factors. At the end of the day, if fans refused to pay for the packages and those seats were empty every show the bands would either stop offering them, or offer more for them, its as simple as that. We know that will never happen though because there will always be people who are passionate enough about the band and have the money to buy them. For the rest of us, we buy our regular floor/grand stand tickets and go on as normal. Its likewise with fees that the venue charges, they are astronomical nowadays, but shows still sell out, it doesnt deter people so why would they not charge them? I hate it, but its the world we live in for people that love going to concerts.
