What’s sad is meet and greets aren’t uncommon now, and all it’s doing is purring a price on slightly more human interaction with someone you idolize. Better to just allow a few hardcore fans in the venue early for sound check or hang outside the bus a bit and take a few pics and sign some things. Not enough bands seem to want to do meet and greets. Too many feel like they’re just selling another merch item you purchase but it sadly requires them showing up and putting on a face

I can see where you coming from. I personally would NEVER pay that much money for VIP experience, but I hard disagree with you on this one. I did several Meet&Greets, some spontaneous, some paid. I never felt that I got ripped off. You paid to be close & personal with the artist. What do you expect, that the artist will do something unique and special *just for you*? They are people, humans, this is their job after all. They meet hundreds if not thousands of people, and you want a "special treatment" for someone who they literally just met? Those "VIP" are for them to generate more money, of course - have you seen what they make when you deduct all the expenses from venue, promoters, travels, and support crew? They get pennies from those tickets. I met dozens and dozens of celebrities, mostly musicians. Never, ever I had a bad experience. Hunter from AFI complained that I had too many things to sign (I had all of their CD's, so 5+); later that year I had a chance for ever-elusive Davey to also sign on those as well; he commanded me to have all of them, to which I said (jokingly) that Hunter was complaining about it. Davey replied, "He'll get over it". Haley from Paramore (at that time at the height of the Misery Business fame) had no problem chatting with us over other bands for several minutes; Jared Leto bought drinks for 30+ of us during Green Room meet & greet. Guys from Trivium signed stuff, and had no issues with pictures. Same for Hoobastank, Brand New, Hawthorne Heights etc. I had a brief convo with Tim from Polyphia, saying that I grew up listening to Satriani and Steve Vai (to which he kinda just said "ok") - and not even three weeks later Ego Death came out much to my chagrin. Yes there will always be jerks, impatient artists, and artists who are forced to do that by their labels (and you can tell that by their demeanor) but for the most part . You contradicted yourself about the title (Your Nina experience was great to hear to hear) so stop with the clicbait. Its not ALL of the rockstars, not even close. You got a few bad experiences that you over paid and they underdelivered - so what? Do you ALWAYS get what you wanted?

Many examples of both just in the mainstream alone. Nirvana, AIC, Soundgarden, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Eagles, AC/DC sure there are countless others. what makes a band, very ambiguous, maybee no right answer. AIC has to be some kind of example for doing it "right".

I like the way they have it laid out, a price for everyone basically. The sacrifice on stage thing is very cool too, makes it worth the $1000 almost to me. On a side note arent shirts so expensive at concerts because the venue takes a cut so they have to price them higher to make money?

It's not a scam for people that do it to say they did it. For them it's aoving life event, something they can fondly misremember as they embellish the experience in their minds. So erhing they can use to gain status amongst their equally vacuous peer group. You realising it holds no value for you, doesn't mean it's worthless for someone else. Blame the people wanting it, not the bands.

I had a friend in high school that was an avid guitarist and Satriani was his hero and he had the same complaints about the meet and greet! I met The Used in Atlanta and they were amazing. I told Bert McCracken that I was in love with him and he kissed me right on the mouth 🤣 I was like 21 and ill never forget how nice he and the band were!

I have never paid for a meet and greet or a V.I.P package. But I went to an Ian Paice drum clinic In Adelaide and it was fantastic. Ian did some drumming and then a microphone was passed around the crowd to ask him questions. He really took time to answer questions and he was great to listen to. Afterwards he signed autographs and photos. I got my photo taken with him. It was great 😊

The Flaming Lips did a free autograph signing and meet and greet. And Wayne Coyne not only signed my cds and did a photo, he was very genuinely thankful I was a fan and asked questions about myself. It was only a 5 minute conversation but he totally made my day. If they ever did a concert near me again and had VIP I’d gladly pay it for them now.

Im lucky to be old enough to remember the days of meeting big time musicians outside of the venue after the show. All of my best experiences with famous musicians didn't cost me a penny. I refuse to pay huge amounts of money to meet anyone nowadays. It simply isn't worth it. Now, some musicians are amazing in person, but some completely suck. Most "vip" experiences sold are complete bullshit. "Hey, spend $800 a person for a laminate, see some artifacts of our career, get early venue entry, and a drink ticket." Yeah, screw that noise. The true vips of any band are on their guest list and never pay a dime. On the positive flip side, some musicians do an amazing job with their meet and greets, all while not charging ridiculous prices. My wife and i did one with From Ashes to New in June. It was $75. We got to meet the band, they spent a few minutes chatting with us(even remembered us from previous shows), took photos, and it was a great experience. All that for $75, which also included various other gifts. That is how its done properly at a good price.

Words to live by: “Let The Buyer Beware”.. Sounds to me like someone did not read the Fine Print.. If you carefully read the terms for some of these VIP events they are very careful with their wording. They use words like: *Photo op* *Group photo* *Not all band members attend M&G* In the case of Tool: *Soundcheck, with some band members* Maynard NEVER participates in the M&Gs, he hates his fans. He coined the lyrics, “Shut Up And Buy” So in closing READ THE TERMS and temper your expectations, the bands are only out for YOUR CASH. They don’t give Two Shits about you..

I have 2 experiences. I got meet n greet for my wife and myself to see Cheap Trick. You get some some free stuff and a "professional " photo" with the band. I never expected to hang out and have drinks with them but thought 10-15 minutes. There was 6 or 8 couples waiting. They take us back to the band that's standing in front of a banner with Cheap Trick logo and are told to stand with the band. Click click click click ok go out the way you came! I actually said out loud thats it?. Second experience was i went see a show that had 3 bands. Testament, Savatage and Nuclear Assult. I was only there to see Savatage. The other 2 bands showed up got off the bus hung out with the fans . Savatage was late. We were in line already when they got there. Jon And Criss Oliva got off the bus walked to a convenient store so i went over and waited for them to come out. I asked if they would sign my Cds when they came out, sure come on and kept walking back to bus. They invited me on the bus and everyone signed my cds. Thanked them and i have to get in line to get my ticket. I had mentioned i was only there to see them so they told me they wouldn't be playing since they were late. No time to set up and sound check.

Eddie (King of Name Droppers) Trunk did a segment about this saying the LAST thing an artist on the road feels like doing is glad handing with a bunch of super fans before or after a show. Since recording contracts don't pay anymore, they need to squeeze money out anyway they can. Some might be able to put on an act that they are happy to see you better than others do, but ALL of them would rather be doing anything else than talking to you. When record sales actually paid real money to artists, how many VIP packages did you see available? Just don't go and pay good money to people that want nothing to do with you.

Think this video came into my feed because I just bought standard general admission Oasis tickets, but it was apparent to me how ridiculous the VIP packages were priced for such little extra benefit. It’s not even a meet and greet. Yet the whole North America show still sold out in an hour. You can blame the band but they rely on their management and promoters to sell their tour. And if people keep paying these ridiculous prices promoters will continue to sell these kind of tickets that really provide no extra value. This is exactly why the resale market thrives because people will happily pay 3 times the price of a ticket just to give it to a scalper. I love Oasis they are my favorite band. But I would never pay $1000 to see anyone. And if someone tries to sell me tickets to a sold out event even if I am a huge fan, I won’t go. For me it’s as simple as that and if everyone had that attitude this garbage would not exist.

None of these people are heroes to me. I'm a guitar player so I have influences that I respect for their talent, but that's it. They are normal humans who got lucky and made it big. Yes, some are exceptionally talented and deserve to make it while some are just lucky. I have friends who are virtuoso musicians who never made it big and are better than dozens of celebrity bands. I've never paid for a meet and greet only because I'm usually lucky to have saved enough cash to buy the tickets, pay for parking and gas to drive anywhere from 1-3 hours one way to see a show. The only meet and greet I ever wanted to do was with Alex and Geddy of Rush but just getting tickets was difficult enough. I did have an incident in 2006 that was really cool. My kids had gotten into my record collection and became huge fans of Iron Maiden. They asked me to take them to a show on their 2006 tour. The ticket price was reasonable and Boston is only a one hour drive one way for me so we went to the show. After the show my teenage daughter asked if we could look at their tour buses because they were right next to where we parked. While we were looking at them a few security guys came out with barriers and said "they will be right out in a few short minutes" this caught me off guard and my kids lit up begging me to go hang out over there. So we did. There were only 20-30 people waiting at the most. First Steve Harris came out. He was quiet but signed autographs for anyone who wanted them and was smiling and respectful. Next came out Bruce Dickinson, I was right by the door and without saying a word he put his hand out and said "hi mate, thanks for coming to the show" them proceeded on to do the autograph thing. I had an old school camera so I took photos of my kids with Steve Harris and then with Bruce. Next Nicko McBrain came out. He also shook my hand and thanked me. I told Nicko I still have the Vinyl LP he was on when he was with the Pat Travers band. He suddenly became even more animated and excited. He was surprised that anyone even knew or remembered he was part of his original band. So I then proceeded to take pictures of Nicko with my kids and Nicko looked at me and said "Dad, you need to be in this picture as well" he asked the guy next to me if he would take some photos of us with my camera. So I'm in the photo with my kids & Nicko. He gave us hugs and at the time my son was young and smaller and Nicko squatted down and talked to him at eye level. They were the only 3 that came out which was cool. Steve and Bruce were cool but Nicko was amazing! He spent at least 10 minutes just with us before he went on to greet the other fans. He was the best celebrity I've ever met and this was not planned and was totally free. Nicko or Iron Maiden didn't get one penny for this. I was telling my kids on the way home that while Iron Maiden may not be as big here in the US as they once were, they still sell out places that hold 60,000-80,000 people in many other parts of the world so they are still a big deal. I was impressed by the way they acted, the respect they showed everyone and the amount of time Nicko spent with us and it was a surprise event that cost nothing. Sometimes the best things happen when they aren't planned and don't cost anything. It was an evening I'll always remember and I have a photo of my kids and me with Nicko McBrain!!

I paid for a VIP meet and greet with Judas Priest in 2008. They sold Gold and Silver level packages. Gold got you 60 seconds alone behind a curtain with the band for a picture. I felt bad for people who bought Silver. The marketing was misleading. Silver got to attend a party but they didn’t get to meet the band. There was a mom and a kid there who had the Silver package. The mom was about my age at the time (38) and her son was about 11. When it was time to meet the band, they had to leave. They were both heartbroken and felt very misled. I still regret to this day not giving the kid my Gold pass. Priest were my heroes since the 80s. I got to spend a minute with them but afterwards I feel that making that kid happy would have made me happier than meeting the band did. I feel I really missed an opportunity to do the right thing and I regret it. I’ve never considered doing a meet and greet after that.

Love you exposing the reality of concerns and VIP access nowadays. Metallica is one of the worst if you look into it. They charge absolutely insane prices for even their worst seats. Unfortunately I’m a moron and have seen them on every tour since 1994. I refuse to see them again in 2025 when they come to my home state, FL. As the music industry has torpedoed into irrelevance, the few popular bands have not only doubled, tripled or even quadrupled their concert prices, but they’ve even surpassed those charges
