My Uncle back in Jamaica grew all his own food. The only meat he ate was sardines or one of the chickens if he could catch one! His diet was not really Keto as a lot of ground provisions (yams, potatoes, etc) have too many carbs. However, I think most agree that carbs from a natural source rather than carbs from processed foods are handled differently by the body. What can be said is his diet for sure was as natural (unprocessed foods) as you can get, he has never bought so much as a pound of sugar. Between his diet and the exercise he got from planting and tending to it all himself he lived to be 106 years old. Sadly he passed away last year. BUT - Here's the thing. He lived alone until after he turned 105 years old. We provided his meals only because we were afraid of him using a stove which he did until he was 104 years old. He took his own showers and dressed himself. He liked to take his radio outside and sit on his front porch. He'd greet any visitor by name even if he hadn't seen them for 20-30 years. He could tell you stories of things that happened when he was a boy 5-6 years old. And in case you forgot, he can tell you things you were doing when you were 5-6 years old. I know this story is not really promoting a Keto diet, but I think the point is that if you can have a diet that eliminates all these sugary processed foods, you're likely to have real health benefits.

Your story promotes why most of us are adopting keto - our insulin is out of whack and it’s mostly due to our consuming sugar and highly processed foods. Had we eaten like your uncle, keto (and intermittent fasting) would never have become popular. I’m reading Robert Lustig’s Metabolical - I highly recommend. Insulin is the problem. Most of us look at insulin as the fat storage hormone. But it also ruins your health. Being fat doesn’t make you ill. The high levels of insulin that made you fat, makes you will.

Try doing this wife a wife who absolutely will not change her eating habits. I will be 74 in October. I am in my 53rd week of mainly a Carnivore Diet. (There have been a total of 30-45 days when strict carnivore did not occur.) As of this a.m., I have lost 60 pounds. (I started 8-7-23 at 296.8 and I am now at 236.8). My A1c has gone from 6.4 to 5.4-5.6. Over the last 60 days, I have plateaued, but 2 weeks ago, I recommitted to strictly carnivore and I have started loosing weight again. This week, as an example, 4.2 pounds. I am basically on the Beef/Bacon/Butter/Egg diet, but I do have chicken, pork, and fish (tuna steaks and shrimp) on occasion. I also eat some cheese, with Hamburger or with scrambled eggs. I basically eat bacon & eggs 7 days a week for Breakfast and Steak/Meat 7 days a week for dinner. Most days my first meal is after 12:00 noon, when I return from the gym. (3 days a week.) On my off days from the Gym, I usually eat my first meal around 11-11:30. My last meal of the day is usually eaten between 8:00-8:30 pm. While I am not "You Tube Star" rich, I do spend what I want on meats, and you would think that you might tire of Ribeyes...but SURPRISE...not me. I do not always buy Angus and boneless quality but I do 1/2 and 1/2. I also like Grass Feed and you can taste a difference. I use a lot of the recipes from Laura Spath, which I find on her You Tube Channel. I cook my steaks in an a Ninja Air Fryer usually, and occasionally on my Blackstone. The only spices I use are Salt Pepper Garlic in a shaker from Blackstone. I also use White Pepper and Redman Salt. I will occasionally make a ketchup/yellow mustard/mayo mix for my burgers...or use grilled onions on my burgers...always with 1/2 slice of American Cheese on each. The only other non-carnivore foods I eat sometimes are chopped up red, yellow, green, orange bell peppers, mixed together and with onion added. I keep a giant gallon bag of these frozen in my freezer and will occasionally add them to my scrambled eggs. I use very little dairy, but do add @ 1 oz. Heavy Whipping creme to scrambled eggs. I tried the Keto Diet, and some of the foods are good, especially those with cabbage, but I am not into most vegetables, especially the ones Keto "allows." I miss my potatoes, yams, some rice, and pasta, but I would rather do without than eat the veggies that Keto recommends, most of which I have never included in my diet, a regular basis.eaten. When I looked at Dr. Boz's Free Spreadsheet, I knew immediately, there was no way I was going to track all that material, just to eat my meals daily. I like her attitude and her videos, but I am not a statistician. On the carnivore diet, it's easy. Eat Meat. Live Long. Live Well. If you have to...eat a Pizza or Jersey Mike's Philly Cheese Steak sandwich 3-4 times a year. I have tried the Keto Buns and Bread from Nature's Own. Not bad tasting and very low Carb. (1-2 net carbs a piece, I believe.) There are also flour tortilla's from La Bandarita and Mission, (I prefer the La Bandarita,) than have 0-4 net carbs, depending on the size of the tortilla. They can be filled with carnivore foods, add cheese, and browned in butter. Love 'em. On the carnivore diet I rarely have gas or burp. On the American Standard Crap Diet, it was a problem. Once you are off the sugar, carbs, and typical American Crap Diet, your system will actually rebel against you if you "cheat." It is absolutely unmistakable. First year down, 60 pounds gone, 87 more pounds to reach my goal weight...150 lbs, what I weighed the I got home from Viet Nam in 1970. Good Health to one and all.

Awesome! That’s great! My husband has not been won over by increasing his fat intake but he does eat more meat which is excellent! I started carnivore 11/2022 and I follow Paul saladino’s with some fruit and honey here and there. But I do great with 95% meat based. My energy has significantly improved, I’m stronger than I was and the last 2-3 years of my life I have felt so good. Since j was around age 5, for 30 years I always felt sick. Eating fruit, eating veggies, we ate predominantly vegetarian at home and then ate seafood at restaurants. If I never ate beans again, which I don’t and i feel great! I also rarely have gas & burps are rare. Eating cruciferous vegetables gives me IBS symptoms, terrible bloating, so I rarely eat them now. It’s not worth it for me to loose an evening feeling sick in bed because of vegetables. And now that I don’t eat processed foods & I quit coffee & caffeine foods. I rarely get headaches. Life is definitely better. I had to hide the fact I had digestive problems for years and I always had constipation. Glad you’re having such the best with a carnivorous way of eating.

My regime: 1. Almost zero processed foods. 2. No alcohol. 3. Minimal carbs, but no silly obsessions. 4. Moderate exercise. 5. I seem to be tending towards one meal a day (not a goal, just where I seem to be ending up). Note: there is no science around the restricted eating window thing, other than that it naturally tends to force a calorie deficit. 6. (And most important....) I select whole foods from which I can make tasty stuff and won't get bored with. No need for "challenges". Note: food preferences change if bouncing in and out of ketosis on a clean diet. For example I look forward to mackerel with cabbage and vinegar - previously I would have puked at the idea when I was eating masses of bread and other junk . I have done plenty of keto experiments - even taking the ketomojo up to the max ketone reading. It works for weight loss - great. But the skill is to devise a long term diet that is "right" (for you). These days I don't bother with chasing high ketone numbers, it's completely pointless sustained/sustainable weight loss. I go into ketosis by accident almost every day. Weight is falling regardless of being in or out. Weight loss rate: 1.5 kg per week for June. Which is pretty much like rates under a whacko fad high ketone diet regime. Remember: it is not about the stuff you eat - it is all about the stuff you don't eat :)

To make make sure it's accurate, (especially if you drop it)plunge in a cup of ice water and it should go down to 32F. You can also do the hot water method by placing it in a cup of boiling water. I was very angry at the American Diabetes Association and the Food Pyramid (I just ignore them now). My mother died at age 64 with almost every complication from Type II diabetes, including multiple amputations. She did what they told her to do. Ate their approved foods, believed their lies. My grandmother who was used to eating a pretty much low carb all her life also became diabetic at an older age and died in her sleep at 84 with no complications. I was following in my mother's footsteps until I learned about low carb, then keto, and carnivore. My highest A1c was 8.9 and this week is 5.6! Down 25 lbs so far. I am almost my mother's age when she died. Not only did she die young but the suffering she had for 30 years with complications. I’ve been watching your videos and you are quite the educator and motivator. On March 8 I weighed 180 lbs. (male 71 years old, 5’7”). My glucose was consistently over 100. For years I was told I had metabolic syndrome. Loose weight I was told. I recently was diagnosed with coronary artery disease. So on March 8 I went cold turkey by cutting out carbs. No more bakery sweets, bread, pasta, potatoes. I don’t follow any “keto” diet. But I am a good cook so I continued to make all my favorite dishes and especially cream sauces. I also started to eat avocados in my escarole salad. I add leftover chicken, or salmon if I have it. I use salt pepper and Italian seasoning with light olive oil ( no more canola oil) and vinegar. Veggies also include Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, and asparagus. In addition to chicken and salmon I eat steak, ribs, pork steak. Most mornings I eat bacon and eggs. Today is June 6 and I’ve lost 10 lbs and my fasting glucose is at 91. I test my morning ketones with a test strip and I’m excreting ketones. So for me this life style is working. And the best part is I don’t feel like I’m punishing myself. No more cravings and waking up in the middle of the night to eat peanut butter and jelly on ritz crackers or worse donuts. (Damn I’d love to have a donut with milk right now) 😀 . Another 10 lbs is my goal. I really think I can do it. Update August 31: Lost another 10 lbs! Had blood work done. Glucose still at 91. Insulin at 4 (my first test for this). What surprised me was my lipid results. 4 out of 6 results were way up from pre diet results, which were all in the normal range! From my research this is expected. I’m not sure if Dr. Boz has ever discussed lipid chemistry as a result of reducing carbs.

I agree. I think it’s a lot like alcohol addiction. You have to develop the awareness, habits and the fortitude to resist the foods that don’t work. Carbs are everywhere. Within 5 minutes of my home are a dozen fast food drive-thrus, pizza and Chinese take out, drug stores and gas stations for candy and other junk food and sugar drinks. I can pick up my phone and have a thousand grams of carbohydrate delivered to me. Making this diet work means I have to eat properly so that I’m not hungry and learning to tell myself “no!”.

My hubby still eats carbs - just finished off a peanut butter and honey sandwich dipped in a glass of milk! 😁 Weekend fun for him is take out pizza and a gallon of chocolate ice cream. I eat his BBQ flank steak in a marinade with a touch of molasses. If we are out, he willingly drives to wherever I need for food in addition to where he wants to eat. He accepts a lot of keto-ish alternatives at home and a lot of carnivore meals, but I'm not his mother and he's not in charge of me. I am a sugar-holic and am completely responsible for everything that goes in my mouth.

I typically try not to post negative comments, but I believe people should be aware that the darling of the keto world (and most other diets), spinach, is one of the highest oxalate foods there are. Oxalate can cause body-wide problems for a large majority of people. It not only affects us physically, but mentally (depression, anxiety, brain fog). Look up Sally Norton for information on oxalate before choosing veggies.

To enhance the beef, mix with T Worcestershire, t cumin, garlic power, onion powder, smoked paprika, a bunch of diced onion and some S and P. Wrap tight in foil and two choices: Instant Pot for 16 min on high with quick release or oven on 350 for an hour or so. This produces a lot of juices and it's awesome with the cauliflower. I love vegetables! Just not the store kind. I grew up in the Midwest having to help grow a huge garden and learning how to put it up for the winter. When I was a young adult I deliberately took some time off of growing a garden as I traveled around the southwest working with my horse. Over time, I started missing gardening. Now I keep a big garden and have been putting the produce up. For people who say they don’t like vegetables, it’s quite possible they are eating them from the grocery store, or the vegetables are being grown in marginal to poor soil. Healthy soil increases the brixs score of your vegetables and the higher the score, the sweeter and more flavorful the produce. I now live in Alaska where cold crops grow to championship sizes, but not all vegetables grow well here because of the cool nights(and many days in summer) and the short growing season even though the sun is out for almost 20 hours right now. Variety keeps eating veggies enjoyable.

Homemade mayo. One egg (whole egg--I hate to waste) Be sure it is fresh. Cup of olive oil. Put the egg in a mixer or food processors so you can continually beat it. add the olive oil or avocado oil one spoon at a time in a drizzle. Adding the oil too fast is how you mess it up. Once you can't scoop the oil with the teaspoon slowly pour in the rest of the oil. Add a teaspoon of dijon mustard. YUMMY and cheap. You will never go back to bought. Then make Caesar dressing with it. Lots of fresh parmesan cheese and anchovies--buy fresh if you can. Salt to taste. Once you know what is in it, you know you can eat lots of it on a salad without feeling guilty.

Is funny--I have keto ice cream in my freezer right now for a special treat tonight--made this morning with heavy whipping cream, whipped a little bit with sugar free pistachio. I don't do this very often because I need to stay away from any "sweet" flavor and too much cream stalls my weight loss. So I only made a half cup serving . I don't dare make extra to keep in freezer because I know myself. I make very occasional treats like this in one serving amount so I don't overdo. I will eventually wean myself off completely but I find knowing I can have a treat occasionally keeps me going mentally. When I find something that is especially delicious without any fake sweetner/carbs---I choose to not make it often so that those will eventually become my "treats"--like anything cheesy (which slows my weight loss).

I grew up with my Italian grandparents. Pasta is my comfort food. I make my own lasagna noodles from scratch. I no longer have it in the house. I used to substitute with spaghetti squash and zucchini noodles but I have moved beyond that. We have developed a list of about 15 meals that can be carnivore but usually add a little vegetable. We just rotate around that list to avoid boredom. My wife's favorite meal is breakfast but we skip that now. Sometimes we'll have breakfast for dinner. That consists of bacon and scrambled eggs or hamburger patty with fried eggs. Most of the time we are OMAD. If we can't make it until dinner we might have a small meal around 2 or 3 pm. Usually some combination of pork rinds, cream cheese, sardines, salami, and/or butter. I like to take thin sliced salami, spread it with butter and roll it up. Sometimes I'll add a thin stick of parmesan.

This may sound crazy, but I literally discovered that I was on a Keto diet. I did not start one. When my A1C rated my average sugar over 300 and my evening test that night was 419, I decided to do something. The VA Pharmacist insisted I needed to go on insulin right away, I refused. I accepted the Metformin, and I took it regular for about a week or two. I bought a meter from Walmart and lots of test strips. I tested everything I ate. I discovered what raised my sugars and gave it away. I try to eat what keeps my sugars down. I started looking for diabetic recipes and found foods that were better than others. I found a video on Keto and was surprised to see that in my reduction of carbs, I had basically found myself eating much of the Keto type foods. What is great about this discovery was that I learned what Keto was, and that I could eat Keto Ice Cream :) And I could have bread again, but at a horrendous cost on my tiny budget. After seeing what Keto is and what Carnivore is, I think I'm kind of "KetoVore". I have days I don't mind eating only meat, fish, poultry or egg, but I still love my salads and other veggies. Ham egg and cheese sandwiches are great on net-zero bread. What I am finding is that Keto/Carnivore seems to be rather expensive if I want any variety. I eat a lot of canned meats and frozen vegetables, I have a small fridge, but even still, fresh veggies go bad before I can eat them. Buying in bulk doesn't save me money and buying smaller packages costs as much as a Wendy's salad. I just get a little more. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of this video.... Thank you.

Blanching, or parboiling, makes a huge difference in the flavor of many vegetables by washing away some of the strong flavors - all kinds of greens (spinach for 30 sec, kale for 3-5 min), broccoli, cauliflower. Drain well and then saute with butter and garlic or whatever. Or plunge into a large bowl of cold water to stop cooking. Drain well and then they can be stored in the refrigerator for a few hours or a few days.

Here’s what I do to Brussel sprouts; cut them in half, put the on a baking pan (use parchment paper for easy cleanup), slice up bite size bell peppers OR Summer squash, then get out a pound of bacon. Cut the bacon in half and just use the half. Then cut the slab twice to get inch sized squares of bacon, lay these out over the veggies. Cook at 400 F for 20 minutes. Take pan out of oven and sprinkle fresh grated Parmesan on the masterpiece. Then cook an additional 10 minutes. The fat from the bacon goes into the veggies so you don’t need any oils or butter. You can sprinkle the veggie layer with hot paprika and minced or powdered onions or even curry powder and cracked pepper. My other fav is to use large sweet onions and Brussel sprouts as an alternative. Be creative! The parchment paper makes all the difference for easy cleanup.

I got the Cronometer app that she recommends. I upgraded to the gold on it. I was shocked to find out what had carbs in it. I have 2 16oz coffees in the morning. 14oz of coffee and 2 oz of cream. That 7.2 carbs. 2 eggs--2.9 carbs. That half my carbs for the day. I love sardines so that was nice. One of my fav's right now is egg salad. Just by itself with pink salt. A small salad with lots of dressing. I can add ham or cheese and mushrooms. Canned pink salmon is cheaper than fresh. And I love it. I weigh everything I have scrambled eggs most days for lunch. Trying to ween myself from breakfast. I even have a scale on my desk so I can weigh my pork rinds that I eat. I'm not perfect. I did have fries once when we went out. And tortilla chip another time. I started the 18th of last month and today is the 18th. I'm down 11 pounds. I do a small workout everyday. Nothing to write home about but it is a routine now and I am increasing the weights slowly. Now I need to trim the calories down, and the protein. When I started I didn't want to be hungry so I ate however much I wanted. So this week I trimmed one egg off of breakfast. My late night salami is going away too when that bag is empty. I check my glucose and ketones every morning when I get up. I have consistently been above 1.5 ketones for a lil over a week now. The Dr Boz ratio still goes up and down though. My glucose is what is holding me up but I have hit the 40's and 50's a few times. Now I just need to get walking. Hang in there. It really is about finding what you like to eat I think. I don't like to search for keto friendly sweets either. Trying to get rid of wanting sweets. Not too big of deal for me but I know it is for others. You can do it. :) It was easier when I was younger. Now at 62 I know I have to.

I was surprised when you mentioned flour dust on the shredded cheese. I learned a few years ago sugar is the culprit, not fat. I try to eat small portions and two meals a day. Intermittent fasting helps keep my glucose down and I don't eat after 3 PM most days because I have acid reflux at night if I do. Great advice.

The only way I like brussel sprouts is cut in half, brush with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic and then bake until the tops start to brown, take out and dust with parmesan cheese. And even then I only eat a few at a time. If you boil or steam them they just taste like fart balls.

@ 4:25 on your video you mentioned that you didn't like kale that it tasted awful to you. My Daughter makes kale chips by using olive oil on the kale leaves and putting them in the oven till they are crispy and then salting them. They are actually pretty good that way.

My granddaughter has loved Kale chips from when she was 2 years old. She likes lots of strong flavors and isn't much for sweets. I am a veggie lover. I have tried keto a number of times and I just miss my veggies so much. Nothing more comforting than carrots, sweet potatoes or ANY veggie. I am doing okay now...and losing weight by limiting my high carb veggies. Might try a sardine challenge. I love kippers.

Thank you Dr. Boz. I am 63 and take zero prescribed drugs. I just had a blood panel taken by my doctor. I got a call the nest morning saying my LDL was elevated and he wanted to put me on a statin drug to lower it. I declined and want to address it through diet and exercise. I had been eating 2 pickled eggs every morning for the past 18 months and thought that was the culprit. After watching a few of your videos, I see that eggs are very good. I've been off of them for 6 weeks while eating steel cut oatmeal every morning instead, bad move, huh? I'm back on the pickled eggs starting tomorrow.

I love chicken breast, chopped up, with olive oil, salt, pepper, paprika powder and loads of chopped and crushed garlic. I leave it to soak for a little while, then in a pan with butter I fry it. So delicious. Onions and mushrooms, also in butter, then add water and cream cheese and cook it for a couple of minutes. With broccoli and cauliflowers boiled and then tossed in butter with a nice sprinkling of salt. My favourite meal. Soo damn tasty!

Thanks for the video! I find that using an online meal service works perfectly for me! I am single, never really liked to cook and I hate it when food goes to waste. I order 3 meals per week (6 servings). I can edit organic ingredients that are responsibly sourced. These meals have variety that holds my interest! I've tried new spices and the recipes are easy to prepare. I fry ALL of it in a pan to get more fat. After 6 months keto, my metabolic numbers are looking good and inflammation has dropped drastically. Now I'm reducing my eating window and working towards regular fasting.

I got the Audio book Keto Continuum and listened to it when it first came out and am thinking I might should also get the paperback book to go along with the workbook I have. Anyway I'm fixing to open up the program and start it "again" and this time I've a little more encouragement at home except there will probably always be the carbs close by. My other half has to have them no matter what. Oh well the bottom line is it's up to me to put on my big boy pants and buckle down and do this because I want to and I can. I had to get holiday's and birthday's done with for awhile and now it's time to turn on. Test run has been done and I've got necessary device's and Sola water made and I'm ready. I'll be in contact through the program. I'm so glad you made this program. Thanks doc.

Great video! Thank U for sharing your personal experience and tips! I find comfort and look forward to Heavy Cream with rasperries for a sweet tooth. I use heavy cream in coffee as a latte that I look forward to every day. I love Macadamia nuts a few every day, walnuts and pecans. I had to learn that cashews are A FRUIT! Yikes, stay away from certain nuts. I also learned certain nuts are high in phytos and are not advantageous. I love Garlic Salt on hardboiled eggs. I also love avacado oil salad dressing (with a little red vinegar). I had to forfeit Balsamic tho, ouch, I miss balsamic but it has too many carbs. Since I abhor fish and will absolutely not eat it, I take krill oil, cod liver oil supplements for Omega 3s and eat steak, turkey and plain ham. I am a huge asparagus fan with butter and garlic salt.

What do you do if you are a Hindu and a religious vegetarian and cannot eat meat and have not eaten any meat, fish, or eggs, no animals for 54 years? I know I have insulin resistance since I have most of the symptoms from your other video. Also, I always have a fasting blood sugar below 100 somewhere from 80 to 93. However, my postprandial blood sugar levels drop from 3 to 17 points. My last reading was in November 2022 and fasting blood sugar was 93 and postprandial was 76. Now when I was in my late 40s I did a vegetarian Keto diet believe it or not. I ate Tofu, Seitan, for protein and cheese and butter and ghee for fat. I ate nuts for snacks and full cream spiced tea for dessert which I sweetened with Stevia the only sweetener I used on the diet. NO FRUIT but 4 veggies Celery, Red Peppers, Cucumbers, and Lettuce. I stayed under 35 grams of carbs a day. the result was 100 pounds of weight loss in less than a year. Would you suggest that I return to that diet and give up all the refined carbohydrates I think that would be the best thing for me considering how hard it is for me to lose weight. Right now I am 311 pounds and have just dropped 30 pounds on practically eating nothing at all diet over the last 6 weeks.
