Btw the priest in this video is French from the ICKSP so that's why his Latin sounds a little funky 😂

@@Altare_Dei Ya but as a person who has an ICKSP place 40 min away I do not mind. Their mass is so beautiful and the Latin is solid. Plus they are a growing order and we have hand missals so we all can manage. Give me a TLM with a non English speaking then a slap happy, priest who makes the NO mass about him and his personally any day.

After going to only a Novus Ordo for my entire life and being a lukewarm/barely practicing Catholic, I began taking my faith seriously, and eventually found the TLM. Never went back to the NO, best decision of my life. Finally found a reverent liturgy with orthodox teaching and people who take the faith just as seriously. Glory to Jesus and Mary!

I'm practicing catholic, I'm happy that you converted from a bad state. I was also like this. Just one thing: don't say glory to Mary, you are putting her on the same level of God. That's not good. I'm sorry if I feel protestant, or someone who judges others. I don't know how to say it in another way. Sorry. Also correct me if I'm wrong in any way.

@@putin_alla_spina You would be wrong about that, giving glory to Mary is not putting her on the same level as God. Many saints, including John Paul II, have written about how Mary deserves glory and was the first to receive glory from God. Giving glory is not the same as worship.

Hey, brother what are the types of catholicism? I'm looking into catholicism and i heard there are sspx, sedevacantists, eastern, and i wanted to know all.
@Altare_Dei
@Altare_Dei 2 ай бұрын
Glad to hear you're looking into Catholicism! There are different rites and traditions within the Church. The main one is the Roman rite, aka the Latin rite. They are the main rite for the Western world like Western Europe and America. The Eastern rites are similar to the Orthodox but they're in full communion with Rome and the Pope, and they follow the traditions of whichever place they developed (Eastern Europe, Russia, Middle East, etc.). There's a lot of Eastern rites and I couldn't name them all but most of them follow a Byzantine tradition. The SSPX is a group that's not in communion with Rome, they're separated and they operate outside of the Pope's authority. They hold some dangerous views which are not Church teaching, like telling people that the Novus Ordo Mass is "evil", and if there's no Latin Mass in their area, to not go to Mass at all (a mortal sin). I would stay away from them. Sedevacantists are schismatics who believe that the office of the Pope is vacant, and that there is no Pope. They deny that Francis is the Pope, meaning they are all excommunicated. This usually comes with even more problematic beliefs but it depends on the person. Definitely stay away from them. Hope this helps

Also there was/is a WHOLE lot of local rites before the council of Trent. The reason I said was/is is because the old rites were distinguished and removed from use, but some rites are still used very occasionally

yep, most of the prayers are different and one has a lot more lacking then the other. Even if you are lucky to have a very rev NO mass. Look at the two missiles side by side. Don't get me wrong I would rather have more very Rev NO masses in the world then what we have now, but the EF/TLM no matter where you go is always solid and consistent.

@@Altare_Dei I did and I sent the video to everyone at my NO parish council. We have a good younger solid priest who is trying to bring back some of the reverence. It is funny, people complain about the lack of families and dwindling mass attendance, then when you try and put in things that actually attract those people they try to cut off your legs. Sorry but the mess caused by the lack of people willing to learn and read the V2 documents and see the mistakes does not sit well with those who are younger and actually took the time to understand the why and how we got into this mess in the first place.

The Divine Liturgy is actually quite innovative. A first century “mass” would be the Agape Feast. 4 didn’t remain, Rome excommunicated Constantinople only and later under Ottoman rule the Orthodox Church fully separated

@ambientapathy777 The further back one goes, the less complete the picture is. The Anaphora of Addai and Mari has been mentioned. Didache and Justin Martyr are both early and both give liturgical information, but are problematic because one is a "church order" and the other an apologist. The earliest prayerbook of the Byzantine Rite is from the 8th century, but even that is by no means a complete liturgy in every sense. But it does contain all the priest's prayers for the Eucharist. I'd recommend *The Search for the Origins of Christian Worship* by Paul Bradshaw if you're interested in the details of this process.

I *think* the oldest still in use is the Assyrian Church of the East Liturgy. The oldest anaphora is the Anaphora of the Apostolic Tradition from around 200-230. There is some argument whether this was an actual text read at the Liturgy or what it could be like since we know at least in 150, where we get the oldest order of a service, the Anaphora prayers were still improvised by the bishop.

Good morning! Pleasure, Hail Mary Puríssima. I'm a Brazilian boy and I was delighted when you @Altare_Dei compared the Latin/Gregorian Mass, of the apostles, which was celebrated during the decades of the Rite of Semper of the 1962 Missal, to the Paul VI Novus Ordo Mass. If I'm going to be a priest, I'll only go if I'm going to celebrate the Novus Ordo Mass the way you posted 4 months ago. I'm sending a message here, maybe you can see my message. I would sincerely like to talk to you about respecting the current crisis in the Church. (Note: I don't know how to read and converse in English, lol. But everything was translated even in the comments lol.)

@@Altare_Dei I would like to know that I should continue and deal with the crisis within the Church today, go to Paul VI's Mass knowing that it doesn't celebrate in the way I saw it here. But I try to find a mass that is well celebrated and respectful. I feel the call to religious life and priesthood. And I'm trying to enter into a spiritual direction with the priest in my city, he's conservative from what I see and hear. Sometimes I'm afraid of participating in today's mass, and people will discredit the validity of the priests...
