This week I started creating an account at hacker rank and taking the 30 days coding challenge. I'm in day 4. Become a developer looks so far away, that's the reason I was looking for some motivation. Thanks for sharing this video. I will try to keep learning. This is an Etremely Valuable video. In my opinion, you could read many motivational books, go to motivational seminars, and trust me, you learn and get all the motivation you need in this 14 minute video. I'm going to save this link and offer to send it to anyone who I think should listen to it, or when I come across someone who decided to give up on the idea of a better future. I come across these situations often. WOW !!!! Thanks Dorian. An added note. Many of my friends who did time in prison, (nothing violent) became successful. I always asked how they did it. The answer was always the same. "I had no choice. I had to do it myselft. It was next to impossible to get a job and when I did, it barely paid me a living." Two examples, a friend of mine opened up an MMA Studio, and another made a nice income as a Barber and eventually opened his own successful Barbershop. PS. I don't know about you guys (gender neutral) but this video has taken my mind to the next level. Wonderful !!!!!

I wanted to make sure that I responded to you before any of the other comments this morning. Joel, I'm really sorry to hear about the lost of your father at such a young age, no one deserves to endure pain like that as a child and I hope that you are able to find peace with it. My mother was an alcoholic when I was younger and throughout my childhood, I remember many nights having to take care of her and worrying about her all the time. Also it's ok to cry dude, I grew up being told that men don't do that and that makes you soft. That's toxic and I wish I knew that sooner, I still struggle with sobriety and I'm getting help for my mental health now after so many years of keeping that stuff bottled up. You being sober inspires me to know that I'm not alone in my struggles, the same way my videos inspire you to know that you're not alone in the journey of learning to code and the struggles that come with trying to improve your life. I wish you the best and if there's anything that I can do to help you out let me know. If you haven't done so already consider looking into counseling, it's been helping me a lot. People like us grow up thinking that we're not meant to succeed in life so let's change that by achieving everything that we set out to do! Good luck brother, I truly wish you the best!

You are doing great work. Your story is similar to mine in a way apart from doing drugs and not having a dad around, but I did spend my 20s drinking too much beer and playing video games 😂. When I left School, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, so I decided to study Microsoft’s network security and Cisco CCNA. It got me nowhere in life I never followed that path as I didn’t enjoy it. So, I just got a job in London doing construction for most of my life and I’ve now reached a point where I want to do something different as my current job requires lots of time away from home and family which sucks, and the work isn’t consistent as it used to be. At school I wasn’t great and struggled to read and write as well. This coding Journey I have decided to start is my way of finding stability in life and my biggest motivation is where will I be in 5 years from now and if I don’t go down this path. It worries me to think about it, but I need to take one day at a time and just keep chipping away at it. I don’t believe in motivation so much I think the act of the behaviour of doing something positive every day no matter how small a victory is. Marginal gains are the path to victory even if today or tomorrow doesn’t feel like it. “The doctrine of marginal gains is all about small incremental improvements in any process adding up to a significant improvement when they are all added together”. I turned 40 this year and it’s not too late I’ve been teaching myself to code for the last month now and it’s not going to bad. I’m actually enjoying it and wish I had chosen it as a subject instead of networking. Thanks, Dorian, for your helpful videos.

I remember hearing a quote that went something like "Discipline succeeds when motivation fails" and that always stuck with me. I also agree that long term goals are only accomplished by achieving smaller short term goals over a long period of time. 40 is young and the great thing about coding is that you can pick it up at any point in life! Thanks for watching and good luck on your journey!

Man seeing this rn is motivating. As someone who also wasted their 20s in their 30s now tryna change things around. Have a daughter I’m raising on my own. Studying for my comptia a+ and self learning coding it’s been difficult and I feel like some times I should just give up. I know this video is a couple years old but I just want to say I really appreciate the motivation

Hey man thanks for this, I’m 33 and been learning programming for a year (currently in a CS degree and learning html/css/js/react). Luckily I stuck to one language mainly (except for uni work, no choice there a lot is theoretical though). Finally after a year I feel like I actually understand it if that makes sense? I currently work as a part time super market worker but this week I have a technical interview for a front end dev job (react). Just getting this far is a dream as I just feel like I could never even get my foot in the door. I have showed up everyday for a year and I will not give up! Inspiring mate

Hey man, I'm going through a similar situation and videos like this help me almost everyday. I'm 26 with no job anymore because I quit to learn to code. It's very stressful and most days it's hard to sit down and get somewhere with my website. I have eliminated dating for the time and since I just bummed my knee, I can't do most of the things I used to do for fun like sports and whatnot. I really REALLY want to make a video exactly like this one day, looking back at this stage in life and be proud of myself. Idk what the point of this was, but just know you're helping me at least so thank you.

Hey Dorian, I've been watching your videos for a couple months now, and dude... your story has a lot of similarities with my life, I'm a 29 years old Spanish native speaker, I've been trying to learn how to code for eight months now, since my first career path isn't giving me enough to give the life my two little girls deserve, accumulating debts that I cannot pay anymore and renting a house that is falling apart is not what I want, I'm from a very poor and corrupted country from South America and some day I will migrate too, hopefully in five years maybe I will get good enough as a software developer, so I can land a job in a first world country. Today was my birthday and I didn't have any money to celebrate, and also I didn't feel like studying today, so I was looking exactly for this, some kind of inspiration, so thanks man! PD: I saw you train BJJ, I'm a purple belt and I miss training due to this COVID shit I'm not training for about a year now. Keep doing this kind of videos bro! OSS!!
@DorianDevelops3 жыл бұрын
Everyone's got their struggles and there's things that we can control and there's things that we can't. You're doing what it takes to control the things that you can right now. Keep learning and keep working on improving, the pieces will fall into place as long as you're working towards your goals. Things take time and life is a bitch sometimes but just keep at it. Also have you thought about freelancing or trying to find some development work locally(not sure where you're at)? I don't know everything you've learned so far but you might be able to find some side work that can help bring in a little money and get you some experience until you can find something fulltime. Oh and yea covid sucks and I'm also a purple belt. Haven't trained in a year and now I'm fat haha went from light heavy to super heavy 😂

@@DorianDevelops dude!! Never saw your response until now that somebody else liked my comment! Hahah I’m super fat too. Now trying to get into some calisthenics. And yes! Just about a week ago I’ve decided to start freelancing. Now I’m seeing which are the best ways to do websites fast. Learning some bootstrap and node.js right now. Also I’ve left my job as a physiotherapist and a few months ago and now I’m on a company working as a implementer of an ERP called Odoo. Not a dev but kinda closer towards my goal. I’m from Paraguay, not a big market here but I think I could try fiverr or something alike to start freelancing. Thanks for your response!!
