I lost my girl Joan Jett a few weeks back.😢I still don't know what happened. She was in our house for 2 weeks with us and we tried everything we could. She was a 4-year-old Dominique. The most snuggly girl ever. It is very hard but we know she lived a good life. We will never forget JJ. 5 years ago I would have never thought that chickens could affect our lives so much.

My best advice is DON'T wait until something goes wrong to start researching/stocking items for common chicken issues. Chickens hide illnesses really well, so sometimes by the time they are actually showing symptoms, they are already far into whatever is ailing them and time is of the essence. Whether it be holistic or conventional treatments, have an emergency kit stocked ahead of time so you can treat issues as soon as you notice them. I always keep medicated feed stocked in case of Coccidiosis and other anti-parasite/dewormer medicines. Chicken vitamins, apple cider vinegar and nutri-drench. Simple things like a dog crate with extra feeders and bowls, a plastic tote in case you need to soak them. Old towels. Some sort of lubricant if they are egg bound. None of it is very expensive, but it will be so so important if something is going on.

I had 1 get sick 2 weeks ago. I spent a week trying to figure out what was wrong with her. Finally I bought all natural wormer and she seems to be on the mend now. Thank you for your videos because I have been taking all your advice! God Bless!

Thanks for all your wonderful and informative videos. Last week I got 3 salmon faverolles 12 week old pullets from a local farmer. The next day one of them was sneezing. I had housed them in a separate coop area in lockdown away from my flock. The chick got a little worse each day. I tried oregano, tumeric, garlic and ACV in her water but to no avail. So I had to act. Took your advice and brought her in the house. I used your egg yolk wash idea and added amoxocillin, ivermectin, oil of oregano, and "hydro hen". Didn't know if she would make it thru the night. Alive next AM and by late morning she was drinking and eating again. Still on the mend but it looks like a great future is coming for my little gal. Yea!!!

I had to detach from my chickens. I lost my original Flock one at a Time, Mostly sour crop and water belly. I tried with all my might to save everyone single one ofnthem. Didn’t save A Single Chicken…. I do my very best and. Almost grieved myself to death when they had to be euthanized. Never again. I literally can’t get over it…

I feel the same. I started with four, then lost one in May, after I thought I'd cured her because she was completely better for a whole week. Then I found her laying on the ground on the 8th day. She died next to me 30 minutes later. I didn't sleep for two weeks, I felt so guilty. I have three left, and I doubt We'll ever get more.

Recently one of my hens was egg bound ,she hadn’t laid in morning ,sometimes she takes day off ,but this time had a feeling something was off ,by 7 pm ,she Was really down ,so I gave her a waRm epsom bath ,,wrap, dried her with a clean towel aNd pa and patted her With kitchen towel ,low and behold she laid an egg half a size bigger than she usually lays and she does lay very large brown eggs, but the one she popped out after the epsom bath was much bigger than usual I can assure you we where both very relieved .

Poor hens--sad they are bread that way. They are so much more than their eggs. I am also sad that roos get so much hate--Bubbalicious is such a good boy. His feathers are glorious and he is so proud standing with his girls in your chicken yard! My roo is such a good boy, too. He has some hormones, for sure, but that isn't his fault!

There is so much wonderful greenery in your run. My 2 girls have a huge area of easily around 60 square meters. With the exception of a couple of mulberry trees they decimate everything unless it has a solid wire cage over it.. 😁 How do you do it? ❤

I just found my 16 week old rooster dead, 2 days ago. I am baffled. Enclosed run. No signs of anything. Found him laying flat on his back. This was my first rooster. Brokenhearted over this. I don't know what happen, he seemed perfectly healthy.

I lost Penelope aka Penny a couple of weeks ago to heat stroke ( I think?) and I was just devastated. She was a white brahma, and I made the mistake of not using my common sense to realize she was not heat hardy. There is just so much information out there that is just not correct! Thank you for your impartial, unbiased advice!

I have wanted to do chickens forever. The more research I do, I discover financially it is more expensive to have chickens than to buy eggs at grocery store. 10x amount of work, cost to feed, maintain is so expensive and health care is ridiculous. I have tried to get over this but I just don’t think I can.

Yes, that is true. But, it is the matter of quality control and availability of eggs during these times. I lived in times and place where of you didnt have chickens, you didnt eat eggs. Money was worthless so you couldnt buy them even if they were available by miracle. Plus they are wonderful pets.

II understand. I do my best to supplement their feed with free scraps/vegetables from a garden and I have a black soldier fly larvae bin. I am also lucky to be able to allow them to forage a little everyday. It’s worth it for me and I get so much joy out of it.

I know I've said it before, but I am glad you are educating chicken husbandry. When I had my last homestead you helped me a lot, and my neighbors started calling me for help with their flocks because we didn't have a vet that knew poultry. I think at that time there was one vet in the state that would treat poultry.

Do you trim your chicken’s toenails? I am giving two different chickens an epsom bath foot soak for about two weeks & I have been looking at their toenails & wondering if you trim nails regularly. My flock is about 42 chickens, a wide variety of girls & 3 roosters. Thanks for any feedback!

Hi there!! Not sure if you’ll see this, but did you ever have issues having the chickens go into their coop for the night? They choose to sleep in the corner of their run & I would feel so much better if they were inside! They’re about 12 weeks old, they’ve been outside now for 2 weeks and have yet to go into the coop on their own, typically it’s me moving them in at night so they sleep there. I tried locking them in for a couple days and they loved it, all over the roosts & whatnot but after opening their door after 2 days, they have still yet to enter the coop. Any ideas?

One of my girls has had a big issue with sour crop. Whenever she is eating feed that has wheat in it, she gets it. So I dont use any more wheat in their diet, unless its grown in the wheat grass. We cured it with kefir and garlic brine. Every time.

I had a chicken very ill with sour crop. The vet recommended a chicken bra. I got one from amazon, and it enabled the crop to function again. The vet told me that sour crop is often secondary to other issues. My girl had significantly stretched her crop to the point that the bra had to become a permanent accessory. If your hen has the same thing, dont worry they look snazzy and my hen seemed quite comfortable in it. 😊 Good luck. It's lovelly that you are trying so hard to help her ❤

@@katesmiles4208 my same girl had the same thing happened to her. We battled for the whole year. Sour crop is caused by yeast infection. Once we stopped using wheat and implemented kefir brine in their waters together with garlic, her crop was completely restored, and she no longer needs chicken bra. She looked very cute with it though, but im happy she is healed.
