Best review I've seen, Thank You! You really take them to task on the short comings. I've been rethinking subscriber service. I welcome abilities to customize my purchase with updates to the way I would drive a very pricey computer laiden equipment/tool. Equipment that does what I need it to do and to fit the environment. I often need to back up with my door open. I believe the transmission issue can be remapped to fit your needs and the horrible gas mileage. But until we get better laws with right to repair I'll be forced to 20 year old equipment I can tweak. Thanks again for an excellent update and look forward to the compare with that solar octane unit.

Very informative and fair review. I like many of the things they improved over my 2014 and was actually on a list to buy a TRD Sport. Because of the supply chain issues I am now going to wait and see if they do a better job with the next gen Tacoma, especially with the fuel economy.

I want to note you stated the tailgate step was too high to step on but that a step should be integrated in rear bumper like GMC. It seemed contradicting and perhaps the auto step should instead become standard on more trims. Love the channel and great video

Another very informative video David good job. I particularly like your honesty in good and bad things related to the truck. I think I may wait until next year to purchase a tundra. I have also heard of various rear axle issues, leaks and the like which concern me quite a bit. Glad to hear that it looks like that they have solved the wastegate issues. Great review, David. Very detailed & u really picked out the “dislikes “ to let other potential buyers know. I will not be buying the new Tundra, don’t like the design & flaws you mentioned about it. Besides the new interior gadgets, my ‘16 Limited TRD Off road still looks better & the engine is tried & true & known to go over a million miles….I don’t think a turbo engine will last that long

I own a first month first year production FJ Cruiser and I use it heavily offroad on high speed desert blasting and hard core rock crawling. 130,000 miles later and until interior has zero squeaks or rattles and the FJ was built cheap as a $30,000 rig in 06. I find it extremely unacceptable for a $70,000 tundra to rattle when new. Even the 2nd gen in both iterations was squeak and rattles free.

Hi! I finally got my 22 Tundra crewmax limited TRD off road a month ago, I am also from Canada so I think I can compare mine to yours. As for the infotainement, the only complain I have is when you want to exit the navigation, the button is at the extreme top right of the screen so it makes it kinda far away. I don't always stop it when I park the truck, sometimes you want to end the navigation before you arrive so having it far away make you leave the eyes off the road. For the audio when plugging another phone, I prefer when it doesn't switch automaticly because when I am with my girlfriend, she charges her phone so I don't want it to switch over her phone. For the A/C, I find it a bit weak and takes time to be real cold. In order to have it work well, you need to put it in "top vents" only. I compared it to my Audi SQ5 and in the Audi, it works really good when the vents are in top and bottoms vents. For the Fuel economy it is surprising that you are not getting good MPG. Mine does 12.2 L/100km combined so that's 19.28MPG combined. On highway it is even better, it is 10.2L/100km so 23 MPG. For the transmission, I also find that when you go at low speed 10-20km/h when you release the gaz pedal, it downshift and when you give it a lil bit of gaz it shifts so it is anoying to feel the truck going back and forth. Thanks for sharing you experience with the TRD Pro, I was thinking to switch over but I think I will miss the space under the rear seats, I do put my straps and other towing/recovery thing, under the rear seats so I don't think I would like having those in the truck bed 24/7. I am thinking of switching to the 4Runner 6th gen when it comes, so I hope that the 4Runner will have a good engine and that can tow a fair amount.

Very good review.. My dealer called and has a 2022 TRD PRO. They got it from the NASCAR race. It's white, black interior. Exactly what I wanted when I tried to order earlier this year but they were out of allocation. They've offer it at MSRP. $69K. Have watched a couple of reviews on it tonight. After watching your review and the other I've decided to pass. They need a tow hook up front. Better power outlet in bed and step into bed area. I hate rattles and when you said yours has rattles that turned me off. Also the MPG was bad. I love the truck but I'm old school and I don't think I'd like that huge screen in the dash. I'm already dealing with too much blue light from phone, tablet, computer, TV. I don't need more screens and would find it annoying glaring all the time. Not much of a fan on sun roofs either. They create heat where I live and glare. The cheap interior finishes are disappointing. So I'm passing. Keeping my Tacoma TRD Sport with 39,000 miles.

I'm not keen on turbo-charged engines in utility vehicles; they generate an incredible amount of heat and pressure; there's also more components which will have to be maintained/recalled/replaced, and I don't think the modest mileage improvement is going to offset the cost of maintaining this kind of setup. I'm also betting that's an aluminum body, that'll be full of shopping-buggy dings, which makes the mileage disparity... taking also into account the 10-speed tranny and lighter block... even more bewildering. This is a performance-based engine, but Toyota didn't even make a performance motor/tranny for the Supra; BMW made that. But for some reason, Toyota is very confident with their design for this vehicle. All most Tundra owners wanted, including myself (2017 Off-Road), was a longer bed... just a foot or two..., some innovative storage solutions--like with the Honda Ridgeline, a front-passenger side floormat which doesn't slide everywhere, A FRIGGIN CHARGING PAD for at least one phone, and a VISIBLE RPM indicator when using tiptronic shifting... really ... that's it. The new body-style is nice, add that on there... that's fine. And the little retractable steppy-thingies... that looks like an afterthought, just take them off. G'lord... you drop the gate, sit on it, swivel, and stand up... otherwise just put a Tommy-gate on there.

Not sure what your experience level is off road but lots of people use Wild Peak AT3Ws off road on some serious trails. I know many people that have switched from KO2s and won’t go back to them. They were on my LX when I bought it and they work great. Only reason I would not get them again is if I found something that would work better in the mud but still work great on road. Which is where most people spend most of their time. Maybe if I get my wife her own LX or LC I’ll turn this into a dedicated overland rig and get mud tires.

Yes I have a 2022 BackCountry Ram and have the Wild Peak tires that came on the truck. Great Tires, much better that the old Goodyear Wrangler tires.

My truck came with a soft cover. So I bought a Leer with the same method as back flip. All the issues he mentioned with the back flip, I had with Leer. I did not have time to have it repaired so I repaired it myself. It slipped back and blocked tail gate from locking. I slung a brand new in box miter saw out never to see again. So self tapping screws holds it in place

I bet maintenance wise the cost is a lot different. Especial since it is likely braking that regenerates charging in hybrid battery. I wish these reviewers would also cover the maintenance cost side in their reviews. Doesn't have to be exact just a rough cost. I have a subaru crosstrek, at 60,000 km they want me to spend 1000+ dollars for a service C. I don't know about you but that seems rich for a vehicle with only 60,000 km on it.

Hello David That’s the exactly transmission shifting issues down shift from 2nd to first gear on my 2017, and 2018 Tacoma limited. It’s really annoying and it’s unacceptable from Toyota products. My Toyota dealer couldn’t do anything about i, so I ended up sold them both.

It's definitely annoying though it's not as bad as what I had on my 2021 Tacoma TRD Pro.

I actually like it bc it’s essentially engine breaking. On my 21 Tacoma OR. However, a bit annoyingly, when in 3rd or 4th gear, sometimes it lets me coast and sometimes it engine breaks me (downshifting). I wish there was a better way to control that. Like a “coast” vs “downshift” button. But hey, it’s an automatic. That’s why I miss my manual 98 frontier.

Surprised no mention of the limited vision out the front windshield. Gas mileage is ridiculous for a hybrid no less. Access to bed is not well thought out either. Then there is that cheap center console. They should not wait to make these improvements.

So they took the V8 away and now the little V6 gets worse economy than competitors' V8's! Things like squeaks and cheap console, etc. looks like Toyota really fell short on this truck. RAM, GM and Ford are still light years down the road vs. Toyota.

On the grille, I disagree. The big grille states it's a Tundra, and looks amazing. If you want the Sequoia grill get a Sequoia, because the grille is what differentiates the different series.

Coming from GM products I have. I can relate. I still have to fumble to figure out how to operate AC. I always hit up and down arrows instead of auto or whatever.

In all of other Toyota products, there is a separate control for temperature (round) in addition to the volume.
