I have a pitbull that greets every dog that enters the park. She will play with all of them, but she has to run to the gate. to say hi. My dog is the only dog that does this. Pit's are not bad dogs.

+Beerrunner81 agree 100% with you.....pitbulls can be ONE of the most loyal breed of dog there is depending on if they fall into the right hands.....I own 2 pitbulls and they might as well be married they never leave one anothers side and they get along extremely well with other dogs......don't get me wrong tho....they will defend and protect what is theirs if PROVOKED!!!!

Robert Rose Yup in good hands they are great dogs. Took my little ones along with my pit to the park today. It was a nice warm sunny day. So I guess everyone else had the same idea. Over 30 dogs running around having a good time. It was fun. Mine was the only pit but there were other large dogs there as well as the small ones. The haters should see this instead of what the media puts out.

+Beerrunner81 I stopped my dog from doing this by noticing when people were coming in before my dog did and distracting him. Only when the new dog was settled would I stop distracting my dog. This is breaking the habit. Once that is going well, you want to get your dog to notice the dog and then distract them. Once this is going well practice recalling them any time they go to overwhelm a new dog. Eventually they should see a new dog and now they have to wait until it is approaching or wandering. TLDR: take the fun out of this behavior and put it into treats/toys.

I would never take my dog to a dog park. I've seen too many people who just like to allow their dogs to be bullies at dog parks, and they don't do anything to stop it.

One of the things I hate most is when people don't pick up after their dogs... Avoiding dog poo is never fun. The only time I haven't picked up after my dog is one time where it disappeared. I walked up and down the fence over and over, but it was gone 😐 Also, if I ever see my dog being too pushy, I remove her from the situation. People who allow their dogs to bully others are a big problem, and I've almost seen a dog be attacked by a Rottweiler because the young border collie wouldn't leave the Rottweilers friend alone... Did the BC owner do anything? Nope. Instead the rotties family left, when it was their small dog who was being picked on.

I tried to take our 5 month old Collie to the dog park in my county last week, when we tried to enter with her about 5 dogs came running over and began jumping on top of her, getting in her face and harrassing her. All the owners of these dogs were standing in a circle talking, not 20 feet away and not one came over to get their dog. I had to get in the middle of all of them to rescue my girl and try and squeeze back out of the gate with her while the other dogs were all over both of us. When one owner finally came over because her dog followed us through the inside gate, all she did was have the nerve to make a comment about closing the gate behind me- unbelievable!

I have the same experience. Most people at the dog park seem so ignorant to their pets behavior which makes for an unsafe enviroment.

It...just depends on the owner here i go that is kinda normal... as long dogs are not mouthing the dog that just came in is fine...and at some point let your be, he/she will tell the other to get out of his/her way :) but as i said...depends on the owners... is just an opinion

As regards vaccinations, owners of young puppies who have yet to have all their shots are at risk of parvo and it's a painful way to die. I'm always surprised by how many owners never think of this.

I have a neutered male Chihuahua puppy that is 4 months old at the time I write this comment. I want to take him to a dog park so he can learn how to play with different types of dogs. Old dogs, small dogs, big dogs, female dogs, etc etc. I don't want him to inherit mark behaviour. Like the lift of legs when peeing or pushing dirt onto their poop. Will he learn of this unwanted territorial marking if I take him to a dog park?

You shouldn't take dogs under the age of 8 months to the dog park, you should also give your dog at least basic obedience training as well and make sure that your dog is well socialized and not aggressive or scared when around other dogs. This is obvious but also make sure your dog has all its vaccinations and is spayed or neutered.

I feel Dog Parks need a medium dog size area, because some dogs are not big enough for the big dogs and not small enough for the small dogs.

I've been wanting to take my Rat terrier puppy to the park when she gets old enough, but wondered if she'd be good with so many others, she can be dominate and bossy if dogs 'don't' play with her otherwise she's nice if they're calm, been trying to correct it. But my question is, about how old should a person wait till taking their dog or pup to a park? I Appreciate any advice.

8 months old, I'd also recommend basic obedience training, vaccinations, spaying/neutering and ways to prevent fleas or ticks and other things such as hookworms.

It's funny how people bring their dogs to a dog park not expecting anything to possibly happen... it's like sending your well behave kid to school not expecting any problems but the next thing you know you get a call saying little Jimmy got into a fight. The fight could be anything from defending himself, another or him being the bully. Same goes to dogs... even when you believe your dog is the best TO YOU as a human, well he may not be with other DOGS. Ive seen people get to the dog park and unleash their dogs while they walk aroumd socialising... seriously? Just stay close to your dog and keep an eye on it.

Dog Parks are not for every dog. My dog doesn't come back when called at dog parks for a 9-year-old still is a puppy lol. I tolerated it for many years lol, Riley is Riley doesn't want to change, I like the way he is. The dog park we have is next to water where he goes swimming all day. When it's time to go it's time to go, he acts like a spoiled brat.

Don't take him/her....where i take my dog one of the rules is if your dog is not neutered he can not enter the park, simple as that hahaha I live in Lakewood, CA.

Once I went to a dog park and this woman saw my mom telling my dog to lay down because this other dog trying to attack my dog and she said ‘’that’s not how you train a dog your hurting him’’ and she said she was gonna post a video on KZbin called how to to train a dog I was scared because I didn’t want my dog to be known for having a bad owner clearly she doesn’t know anything about training because my step dad train him and he now knows better my dog didint do anything to the other dog then my mom said if you post it she’ll smack the phone out of her hand then my cousin and my sister walked to we’re the dogs were and a few moments later my mom came back I don’t know what happened after that but that was my story that happened at the dog park Yes that was long

Used to take my little dog to the small side 30 lbs and under side of local park. Someone brought their pitbull to the large side and no one latched the gate between the two areas you know what happens next. The pitbull jumped on the gate and came after my small dog 12 pound King Charles Cavalier grabbing by the throat and shook him like a ragdoll the pitbull owner came over and punched and kicked his dog and finally got his dog to let go my dog was unresponsive and not moving I thought he was going to die. Luckily he came around and I was able to get into a dog that he still recovering but I will never ever take my dog there again don't ever trust anybody else's dogs. If you love your dogs do not take them to these parks you can never be too safe around these larger aggressive animals. It cost me $300 at an emergency vet in scarred me and the dog for lifeI was very lucky my little dog left I can't believe he is alive he should be dead but this be a warning to you are that read this please take my advice you just never now
