A very simple way to quickly get on friendly terms with those around you in a remote area is to build a solar kiln and only charge around $50/month to run lumber for them. Let them do the work of milling and hauling the lumber to you so you can run it between loads of lumber you have milled. 1-6 months per load run to get it dry and stable depending on how much sun you get that time of year and the only parts that may need to be replaced are the solar panels that run the DC fans and those DC fans if they break/wear out in the salty air.

First, thank you both for the interview in the appropriate setting, and writing the fuel off as a biz ex! The only time I did get a little annoyed with the answers was the lack of a high and low of per acre. Please give the highest and lowest you have seen then, then talk about the narrowing factors. I know how much realtors and real estates agent hate doing that but I may have no idea what the high and low are. It is a simple question, for the client, but understandably not a simple question for the agent!
@AnAlaskaHomestead

I hear you. I don’t know what the cheapest is in the SE but it was $2k an acre on the Kenai Peninsula when we were shopping around there. Funny you say that, this will be the first year I file as a business🤣. It doesn’t feel like a business but technically it is. You all have a great week.

This was an absolute awesome video. One thing I'll add as someone who works for an airline who may or may not be named after a state *ahem^ is DO NOT try and check chain saws or any ICE. TSA will take it, and the airline is not liable. If you are going to move up to SE AK drive to Bellingham wa or Prince Rupert BC and take the ferry to where ever. Please stop selling everything and then checking a dozen bags of essentials like a chainsaw, loose ammo, pressurized tires (yep, seen it) etc. Totally love what you guys are doing! I hope HOPE I can convince the wife to move to AK. I miss it up there. and I would love a nice island property and an awesome landing craft. bring my tractor and buy a mini ex...... ^dreams in AK^

Hello Brian/Diana!! I know who’s who now, Mandy is the realtor. I appreciate the info given, I could even get 5 acres at 2k each, the problem would be having an income coming n, and to get that, unfortunately I’d have to live n town, which I don’t want. As the saying goes, (for some of us that is) u can’t have ur cake and eat it to, those, like y’all r fortunate. I do have a question though that wasn’t mentioned, can a person just move to Alaska like they can from one state to another, or is there something one must do to become a resident of Alaska, of course I know it’s a state of the U.S. just asking. Thank u
@AnAlaskaHomestead
@AnAlaskaHomestead 3 жыл бұрын
😂I guess I’m bad at introducing people. That’s the big problem with island life, it’s hard to transport back and forth to town for a job. Yes you can just show up to Alaska, like any other state. It takes a year to acquire your residence. Then you are eligible for the PDF, fishing and hunting license. You can fish and hunt from out of state but the licenses are expensive.

A lot of it is out of necessity. Often the ground is wet and marshy. The remoteness of Alaska often limits the materials you can get to your build site. Piles are easy to transport remotely and don’t require equipment to make a level building site for the foundation.
