Just the rule of sticking to corners and waiting for mistakes while being fine for doing nothing is great. It makes my matches much more enjoyable and much easier to observe the situation.

I know this video is from a year ago, but I just went through a tough time in ranked, I gave into these tiny mistakes and actively blamed matchmaking and my teammates for mistakes that I inadvertently made, I went through the entire playlist and was actively able to get into a better mindset and better play style through these many videos, corners, space and all the other things from these videos have helped me in recent casual games, inviting these informations and fundamentals such as neutral, ally and enemy space, or open space, resource usage etc. have helped me signifcantly in understanding how to play the game, even though some games do get lost I learn with each and every one of these losses and try to better myself. So really really BIG thank you for publishing these information packed and well made videos out on the internet for us plebs to see and improve our gameplay with each and every game we play.

I can't say this enough, I am so incredibly grateful for having found your content. I have played shooters for several years now, and I love them. I have always struggled with them though and I've had to claw my way to being slightly above average. I come from a sports background and in every sport I've learned there has been a set of fundamentals that one can develop that are the building blocks of being a good player in a particular game. This is made the path to being good at any particular sport fairly straightforward. I've always known that my inability to excel at first person shooters had less to do with my potential and more to do with wasted effort and a lack of understanding of the fundamentals of the game. Corners/Cover vs. Open space and Resources are the little pieces of information that I have been lacking. Like, obviously I had the concept of cover, and an awareness around my cooldowns, but framing it all together into a set of things that are actually kinetic, simple, and sensible is going to elevate my game in all the shooters I play. The 'good positioning' that I have been trying to reify in-game is just a conscientious push/pull, where you push to take an enemy corner when you have a resource advantage, and fall back to a previous corner when you are down resources so that the enemy team must cross open space to reengage you. That is as simple as 'play is at first' or 'three point shots have higher expected value'. I can SEE that.

8:50 The same thing happens in every game, even in chess. If you look at a chess speedrun people say all the time "those 1200s dont play like my 1200s. They're so bad. Even I could win that game." imo its a combination of two things: when you play patiently and don't make a mistake for long enough, eventually someone will do something stupid. Either because they got impatient, or because their natural playstyle and habits will present an opportunity that they did not think was punishable. This makes them look like a feeder by comparison the second thing is is being able to notice and punish mistakes better than someone of a lower rating. in that chess example, the people in chat say they would have won that game, but the reality is they would not have identified nearly as many weaknesses, and they would have presented quite a few of them on their own. in chess they say it's all about consistency and habits. OW is the exact same imo.

This is one of my biggest issues with OW, is that these fundamental and core concepts to improving at and understanding the game are never taught to you directly. You pick up on the concepts after playing for a while, but they are never stated directly. I’ve been playing for 6 years and only recently I learned through KZbinrs such as A10 the concepts of space, corners, and resources to win games. I think if these were taught through some tutorial it would give newer players a better leg up in not feeding or trashing others. In death match games like COD it’s simply more kills= win. Not necessarily true in Overwatch

Hi A10. I had my best realization tonight that game flow can pretty accurately be likened to the flow of a river. The amount of resources available can be visualized as pressure from a river; the more resources the enemy has, the greater the force of the river, and the greater danger we are in. The less resources they have, the lesser the force of the river. Having game sense is being able to constantly measure the game river.

I’m gonna be brutally honest here. And I know it’s from a lack of understanding, I’m still on the path to improvement and I can only keep learning. That being said… This game is entirely dependent on the tank. If my tank sucks, there’s no space for me as DPS to really work with. I don’t want to rely on my team, but sometimes it’s outright unavoidable. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.
@TheWeegee112
@TheWeegee112 Жыл бұрын
It’s very hard to visualize these concepts for me, mostly because there’s a lack of examples. I have watched other videos on your channel, including earlier ones, and a lot of things seem magical. The tank is doing their job and not going for risky plays, just claiming space and letting the DPS find a spot to attack where the enemy team isn’t looking at them. When I do this, I let the tank engage, I claim space, but suddenly the team ignores the tank and comes after me, and the tank dies in the fight anyways. Or, the tank dies for rushing in and I can’t work with the space.
@TheWeegee112
@TheWeegee112 Жыл бұрын
There’s a lot I have to learn. But the way I see it, if the tank dies from one mistake or another, the ENTIRE team cannot do much since the enemy tank can just grab space for free.

This requires a good amount of gamesense to be able to do... But sometimes you can be the one who baits enemies into making a mistake by making a calculated overextension, and then falling back to your team so the enemy chases you. I do this sometimes as Ana, enemies will chase me when I'm half hp, thinking they can confirm the elimination... But I'm actually just luring them into our backline so the team can chew them up like wolves :)

The reason why the smurf is usually on the other team is because of odds and math. If you are not a Smurf than you have 4 chances to get a Smurf while the other team has 5 chances. So in 20 games you’ve had 80 chances to get a Smurf and the enemy team has had 100. 20 more chances than you. Those odds get even worse for groups. It’s a small chance difference but those chances even out over time. If you are a Smurf however you get a smurf on your team 100% of the time and you still get 4 chances for another.

Quick question; Not forcing fights and waiting for someone to make a mistake (5:45) What if no one makes a mistake? What does a perfect game of Overwatch look like then? Say all player on each team LOS (don't peek) waiting for someone else to make a mistake.. I guess defenders would always win? Soo.. A perfect game of Overwatch would always end in a draw
@drb4074
@drb4074 Жыл бұрын
Sports analogy here: 1. No game is perfect. Mistakes can and will be made. Some forced, some unforced. The higher level of competition, the smaller the mistakes may be and so the windows are smaller to punish them. But they are there. 2. In a stalemate, it's typically the team on the offensive that has to make something happen. So they'll have to start taking riskier plays to try and break the impasse. This happens when your team is losing late in a game. You HAVE to make something happen, so you HAVE to take more risks. Conversely, if you are the team in the lead you may play safer so that you don't risk giving the enemy an opening to exploit and come back. Sometimes you may do everything correctly, but the opponent makes a big play to shift advantage. Maybe a sniper lands a great shot and takes out your support. Now the dynamics of the upcoming teamfight have shifted. Etc etc The conditions change as the match changes. Being behind early isn't the same as being behind late. Seeing these windows, knowing advantage and disadvantage, knowing relative risk level of a play... all these things are what make up your "game awareness" for the sport you are playing. Some players excel at this, some don't. But it's definitely something everybody can work to improve.

now do a video with every support in their worst possible matchup and show us how to carry despite everything going wrong. Yes, worst possible matchup because casuals cannot flex to another hero. What I need to know isn't all thsi fancy theoretical knowledge that falls apart as soon as any teamfight starts. I need to know what to do in situations where I feel helpless and useless. Example for what I am talking about: Brig/Moira player against pharmercy. Other team members are a junk, a Sym, a Zen and a hog. It's aobut as random and chaotic as every single Silver game I play. Tell me how to overcome this kind of situation without useless adivce like "Switch to Anna and go grind in an aimtrainer like goku in the room of spirit and time until you can easily 3 tap a mercy that's zipping between her teammates like an F-22 Raptor"
@zerxas7016
@zerxas7016 5 ай бұрын
The idea behind the whole "stop blaming your teammates, you're the only constant in your matches", and I know you didn't say that but it applies here, is to adapt your playstyle around your team. If your team isn't playing to deal with a pharmercy themselves, or has no idea how to play around it with non-long range hitscan characters, then you have to make the swap or play around it yourself. As Brig or Moira, you wait for Pharah to run out of fuel and then do a massive amount of dmg to kill, or bait them into areas they can't easily escape or into teammates that can quickly kill them. I can play Tracer into Pharmercy and kill them both. But I know how to play around it until I see an opportunity to deal with them.
You are playing Overwatch wrong.
