And people keep on flushing them. I used to be on a shared drain with my neighbours on the far end so whenever it was blocked I had the block first. They kept on flushing these damn things so after the umpteenth time I cleaned it out myself and threw the whole mess in their backyard. Are UK home owners allowed to use root killing products down the drains or things like de greasers etc? I can easiy understand why that would not be allowed. I mean our home sewers do NOT include man holes and gullies. In many places you have two sewer lines one just for storm water the other for all the household. Oh and doing what you do in the US would be remove the plastic or iron pipe cap and run (most of the time) a power auger through the pipe.. Also known as a ROOTER and hence the name of the old company Roto Rooter.

@@22Purplemist Thanks and here is fun aw from where I live if after you buy a house you learn there are not two lines (one for stormwater one for sewer) you as the property owner owe ALL the fines from the date the law was enacted mid 1970's to current date. Can be tens of thousands on top of cost of coming up to code.

Good Lord in Heaven, sewage goes into the gully, outside, what a way of doing it. lol, we have one straight pipe going to the mains from inside the house. we have culverts outside on the mains sewer.. Hello from St. George, New Brunswick Canada. we would be be charged by the police if we had sewage on the ground like that.
