This is only funny because my rabbits never ate anything in my garden except my grass, but this spring they decided that the sweet potato vines and alternanthera i put in for place holders were their all you can eat buffet🤦🏾‍♀️ i still love them though, ive just learned to plant far more than their bellies can hold

You inspired me to go out and trim back . I totally agree that by the end of June things need to be spruced up. Today so far weather in Delaware is behaving this morning with lower humidity. Your gardens are beautiful . If they ever awarded a prize to the most beautiful nursery, you and Jerry would win hands down.

I have a retail store where we sell hanging baskets. Every year we have house finches nest in at least one or two of them. I just take the baskets down and hand water them around the nest. It doesn't bother the babies and the plants don't suffer as much.

This was so helpful. Today, I pruned some more on a baptisia while also weeding. I discovered a perennial geranium I'd planted earlier this spring when the "shrub" was smaller. I think living in the shadows stunted its growth. We'll see. I may have to move it into a sunnier location if it doesn't "Bloom. Grow. Thrive" there. And everything looks so tidy when pruned back. My nepeta planted just last year needs pruning back. It's starting to look like a jungle. 😱

A smart statement, be a student of your own garden. I will apply rose tone to the hydrangeas even though I had originally fertilized with holly tone. I’ve learned SO much from you, Jenny! I’m more confident in pruning back my things now! Question about cleomes…mine seem to be on the struggle bus. Their foliage is not as vibrant as it should be; kinda yellow/dull green. I’ve fertilized, watered less, done all the things I thought they needed and they just aren’t thriving. They get full sun and have plenty of room to grow but they just seem…blah! Any tips? Thank you!!

Instead of pruning the entire plant, in the case of annuals, i am wondering whether pruning a few stems weekly would achieve the same without losing all the blooms for a number of weeks? It is one thing with your long growing season but for us in Canada, 3-4 weeks represents a good chunk of our Summer and the annuals usually start being straggly in August for us.

The Cleome in Missouri is not bush-like. Ours looks like an airy plant with giant Cleome flowers towering over the plant. Sometimes, I've started the plants from seed, and it takes from February to June to see the first flower bloom. We are in zone 6, so it definitely makes a difference in what zone you are in, I agree.

I am having the roast luck with my flower bed this year as well as my containers. Treated for bugs and diseases regularly, fertilized on a schedule, try to control the moisture as best I can. But everything is just underperforming, slow and frumpy. Year 3 in the garden and the first two years gave me too much confidence I think. I’m in Northeast Iowa zone 5a. Short growing season May-September at best. Hot, humid, rainy etc. we have had 90 degree weather with storms on either side of that. I have my flower bed facing south getting 10+ hours of sun. Containers get around 6 hours. Petunias like a little less Iowa sun. Calabrachoas are leggy and wire like and I have pruned and pinched and done all the things even fertilize with chelated iron . So frustrating! I’d anyone reads this far and has advice please help

@GardeningwithCreekside
@GardeningwithCreekside 2 күн бұрын
Oh I definitely took more than 30% and they will rebound wonderfully! Annuals can handle severe pruning where shrubs are a bit more delicate. Years of experience have taught me that the annuals will come out even better than before I pruned them.
