Maybe put your bulb garden in the back of the new, new, new property that way you don’t have to wait for their foliage to die and can leave them there to do their thing naturally and not have to see them go through their transition. They will still be available for cutting but no dead foliage to try and work around. 💐💚🙃

Morning Laura. Daffodils are one of the bulbs that can develop contractile roots. They can slowly pull bulbs down to an ideal depth when planted too high. So even though you planted them on the surface, those bulbs basically said "Hold my beer"😊

I had to treat skin cancer on my face last year from too much carelessness in my youth here in Australia & not only was it extremely unpleasant but I’m so thankful it worked. I do not leave the house without a wide brimmed hat on my head anymore.

I'm from the Netherlands and now living in Germany. We always dig up our tulips etc. I have to treat them as a reverse Dahlia as we get too wet and they'd rot. Also I always saw the tulip farmers dig them up while growing up so there's a reason they do it I'm sure. I always plant my bulbs in a special bulb basket so you can easily get them out. And when I dig them up it's time to pre sprout my dahlias and when dahlias are ready to dig up it means I can plant my tulips. They take up the same spot in my basement and I rotate them out according to their season. Lots of work but my garden isn't as large so there's that 😅

I love the way you planted the seeds! "Willy Nilly" in a structured sort of way. I can only imagine it will make it super easy to harvest and cut stems to enjoy in arrangements or not... 😉 just enjoy them where they grow! The annual plantings are going to be beautiful as well. I love mixing yellow, white, and pink flowers together (especially in arrangements). The color combination gives such a joyful feel! Have you ever thought about doing a small cut flower garden on one of the new properties? Maybe somewhere in the back so you can plant those things that take quite some time to die back. That way your main cut flower garden can just be things that last the whole summer season and you won’t have to worry about looking at the dying back of leaves. Just a suggestion.

You could plant the bulb rows in between the dahlia rows. That plot would be bulbs early in the season. Then as the alternating bulb rows die down, the dahlias would begin to grow. When the bulbs have died down the “empty” row in between each dahlia row would make the space between the dahlia rows seem spacious.

I love zinnias as well! There are more varieties than I can name! My seed plantings here in zone 6 in South eastern Michigan are doing well, especially with the rain! Nice to space the seed sowing to extend our bloom time.

Hi Laura, my zinnias are up and growing well! Today I pulled potatoes and then planted Spinach and a large variety of Sunflowers. I am hoping the shading of the sunflowers will help keep the spinach from bolting and the spinach will keep the weeds from growing under the sunflowers! Well it is all an experiment anyway! I also did the chaos method with my seeding for this row as it’s my last one to be planted until I start the fall garden in a few weeks! 🤗

I’m a big fan of your idea to add boxwood hedges and make your cut garden more formal. I too love the English garden style. After traveling to England and seeing the Chelsea garden show, I planned & planted an entire front & back yard in the English garden style of a new house we built in 1988. It was gorgeous.

I'm suggesting lavender instead, or lavender on the inside. It would be so beautiful. I know you two don't like the mess of fading plants, but the seed heads are pretty too! I started two varieties of Cosmos this year and they are growing in two areas of my gardens. The yellow/ orange I haven't seen bloom yet. Last year it got so big it was on the roof of my deck.
