A story about a neglected child who makes up imaginary friends because of the neglect from her junkie mother. These imaginary friends try to hold her back when she feels ready to branch out shortly after making some actual friends. Her persona really grows when she gets rid of her imaginary friends and then hangs out with her potentially real friends.

My thoughts on this great film: The characters are a manifestation of all the fears and insecurities that Wendy faces. For instance, she has a clear lack of parental love and support. This is echoed right off the bat when she stares longingly at the kids getting picked up and then blatantly shown when her mom's drug addiction leads her to ignore Wendy. This lack of maternal guidance manifests itself into the character on television that at times acts like a mother. When the Wendy couldn't find an item Nora was the one who reminded her (common trope that the mother helps the child find things). She also asks her 'what are you doing' as a caring parent would do. The characters also take on the deep insecurity that she isn't good enough for the world around her. She was being bullied at school and the feeling that she won't fit in is echoed by the way her characters bully her and convince her to stay home. By 'killing' her fears she is able to go out and face the real world. All of this is tied together by the imagery of her as a hollowed out pumpkin in the beginning of the film (The pumpkin being carried says 'Wendy' on it) and at the end it closes by zooming in on another pumpkin but this time it is glowing as the flame inside is lit. This represents how Wendy is developing a new inner strength to face the world.

I believe this is a look into a girls life where heroine has taken control of her mother. I actually wonder if the mother is even alive and has perhaps overdosed at this point, where we are introduced to these characters. Talking with herself has probably just become so familiar after having a parent who is most likely high all the time and never responds back. The child is clearly familiar with entertaining herself hence the imaginary friends. She most likely takes care of herself and ( probably even mom) and it shows in even small details like wearing a shirt advertising an Irish pub to school ! Excellent short horror film all around, especially the young lead female, she did an amazing job at really carrying the whole film herself! Thank you everyone for ALL the likes !!!

What a way to portray schizophrenia??The voices are very real to them & this puts a “face” to the voices & makes it understandable to those who don’t get what they really go through....Her mother being an addict leaves her to deal with it on her own instead of getting help???
@yuzukistardust870753 жыл бұрын
@Remedy.... I don't think they're portraying schizophrenia? I think what they're trying to tell us is that sometimes you have to get out of your comfort zone in order to grow. The imaginary friends were obviously created as a coping mechanism for the absence of her mom in her in life, and I don't think using imaginary friends as a coping mechanism makes you schizophrenic. So here is my opinion. Wendy lives alone with her mother which is clearly a dr*g addict and a alc*holic based on the bottles spread all over the rooms and the needle on the nightstand. It is clearly to be seen, that wendy is living more or less on her own. She watches TV all the time because it's the only thing to cheer her up. And you all knew the sentence from your mom's "don't watch too long you'll get square eyes" (I'm from germany and this sentence is really common in parenting) So wendy basically got addicted to the tv because its her only social contact. She builded up her friend from the news to have someone to talk to. Maybe she learned that a newswomen is a "wise" person. Cush (from cushion) is also easily explained. Maybe she is staying up late because she is talking to the tv. After that she fall asleep on the couch often. Because she is sleeping alone and her mother isn't giving her a good night kiss or hug, the warmth if the couch must feel like a friendly hug. After she realized that she has her own dream and the imaginary friends tried to get her away from them, she noticed that she is trapped in her own mind and house. So she decided to "k*ll" everything what stands in her way, basically her own thoughts and feelings. After that she finally realized she could be happy with other kids. Okay. That's my point if view. Thanks for reading

Get your sh!t 2gether or give them away for adoption, Idk but do something. I can't imagine how traumatizing it must be to be 10 yo and seeing your parent so deeply fall in a substance induced coma that you're unable to interact with them and you're let alone with yourself in a house full of trash

Woah, this is certainly one of the best short films I have ever seen this year. It's all about overcoming your fears and insecurity. The kid's lack of confidence and 'insecurity' were symbolized by the Cusion and the news reporter...or I would say that they were her 'inner demons'. It is fair that the kid started communicating with them since her mother is a drug addict and she had to live with her inner demons which is worse than actual demons. Finally, she defeated her own insecurity and moved forward! Beautifully made.

There are always patterns with any film. The first one I notice is that “odd kid stays behind in class when the bell rings, everyone leaves, and even the teacher doesn’t make sure everyone is out of the room”. Yeah, I know...that’s not a real trope, but I’ve seen this one many times. Nobody had to clean up supplies...they were actively using crafts, paints, markers, and pumpkins all the way to the bell...when in reality, the teacher would’ve directed everyone to start cleaning up at least 15-20 minutes prior.
