I enjoyed this format. It was less an interview and more a free flowing discussion among three passionate watch people discussing their long, personal watch journeys. A real treat for a watch nerd/enthusiast! Something tells me they could have cracked open some beers and stayed there discussing watches for another couple of hours.

It was the friendship around the passion for watches. It was so appealing. It will be really interesting for people to explore this a little bit more, it’s almost like you can collect watches within small communities. The Waze and watches went back-and-forth between friends. I really enjoy this. I’ve watched this probably twice or more. It makes me feel better about having a few Daytonas that I wish we’re not hype watches and I wish nobody knew what they were. I just like the way they look in the way they feel.

Great chat guys. Surprisingly relatable considering the level of collecting. The “re-flip” of the now engraved Sub is disturbing.

I recently purchased a Laurent Ferrier Regulateur. I’m curious to read why Laurent Ferrier is avoided by some.
@BenTramer Жыл бұрын
I have no idea to be honest but my best guess is Laurent Ferrier is not Patek and/or it has lower resale value. Seems most collectors only care about brand names and resale value.

The Important part here for me is that Tim Mosso lifted the market on the EZM1 personally. Mosso effect is real.

Brian's collection is thoughtful, charming, a bit off the beaten path despite the daytonas. The 114060 story is very cool - as a personal aside, that is my only watch. It was a high school graduation present and has been on my wrist daily for a decade. It is all I need and nothing I don't. Hence, I admire this hobby from afar for now. As for Josh, I'm sure the travel time had nothing to do with John Mayer and the Nautilus + Cartier bracelet combo had nothing to do with a midlife crisis. The 5196p is the quintessential modern patek though, despite the tiny movement. He'd be happy to know that the two-tone dial + breguet numeral combo was hype before Nautilii ever were, as old Christie's/Philips auctions results can attest.

Yes and it wasn't like it was sell the watch or don't eat. It seemed like a choice. I was shocked. It makes me think this whole watches are about emotion and memories, etc. is just a facade.

It is troubling indeed! Even the mighty AC3 “was” considering his Reverso Grand Date a keeper considering it was engraved.

I loved the 5196 but the sub dial position destroyed the overall look. I bought a vintage IWC hermit with a similar dial... And I've never regretted it. All this buying, selling, and repurchasing is nuts. I've been collecting for over 40 years... I know what I want and have rarely sold any watches.
@9443-c5b Жыл бұрын
If you see how tiny the movement is on the 5196, you’ll know why the sundial looks so bad. Absolute shame that Patek would take such shortcuts. Beautiful piece overall but that aspect kind of bugs me.

Great discussion, I agree with Josh and his 116509 (I have the exact same watch) - it is superb. I don't get the ceramic bezel craze, give me full gold any day. This model is a bit rarer than many people think eg My AD hadn't seen one for nearly 5yrs, but gets lots of new SS ones. Should also add - Brians's 16520 Daytona is also fantastic - I love the look (eg it looks well worn, which is great).

"I don't really care about timekeeping", that is simply wrong for a collector, it spins the entire point of wearing a watch built with hours and hours of skilled manufacture to a simplistic cosmetic of design over substance and purpose.
@ajohnston9782 Жыл бұрын
"Simply wrong" is a funny response to, truthfully, an opinion based aspect of collecting. Some people have different priorities in collecting, plain and simple. I don't need perfect accuracy, a reasonable facsimile is enough. If you want perfection in timekeeping, a lot of mechanical watches will disappoint. And once more, what IS the "entire point" of wearing a watch? Again, its up to the individual. Thanks for watching!

Usually, these types of videos make me cringe with the look at Me I can buy any brand I want because I have more money than you. I can't spend $50k+ on a watch but I have to say these guys don't come off like that, I've seen YT videos where the person/s do nothing but brag while putting someone down with a watch costing a few hundred dollars. I mean there is I'm a rich collector and then there is I'm a rich snobby collector.
