Great discussion. As a consequence of the respect and value we have for the timepieces we spend time learning about and investing in - it's natural that we would not want to place them at undo risk. Paraphrasing Keegan the actor - the same tribute timepiece allowed him to be part of the aesthetic art and idea of the masterpiece without placing one at undo risk . Somewhat analogous to having a canvas reproduction of the Mona Lisa or other DaVinci in your home to enjoy. That insight and this discussion both have affected my opinion on tribute pieces - and it seems fair to say they have a legitimate role to play in a collection. Thanks for the insights.

I totally get the sentiment, but I fundamentally have a problem with homage watches. Seiko makes great automatic beaters, no muss, no fuss. Beat the hell out of it and it only looks better. Same could be said of Hamilton and many other makers of distinctive, low-cost, well-built autos.

Although Wei comes off as well spoken, he still has lapses where he clearly hasn't done enough research and is talking out of his ass. Such as speaking of Lange's german silver movements oxidizing upon human touch. German silver isn't silver at all, it is actually a nickel, zinc, and copper alloy with no silver content at all, and is specifically known for its anti-corrosion properties, also known as Nickel Silver. So... clearly Wei still, at times, is just told some stuff or overhears and makes up his own conclusion and presents it as fact in the mix of actual facts he happens to have, and I've seen him do this more than a couple times. So for me, Tim remains the absolute watch authority because you never catch him talking bullshit.

Thanks for the feedback. Wei was educated in the United States. This series of 3 videos was meant to be a tour around Philadelphia with Wei Koh. For this 3rd video, we had a Philadelphia Cheesesteak to represent one of our famous foods. If it didn’t come off well, that’s our fault, not Wei’s.
