I thought that's just because the tournaments lasted several days (or they were moving around chess pieces the size of the ones in Harry Potter). As far as I know, the brain doesn't change energy expenditure a huge amount between thinking/concentrating hard and blobbing out in front of the TV. I've found that the perceived effort of thinking is actually the muscles in my eyes moving around trying to draw "mental pictures". I've found with maths/chess/memory, I have to visually draw the possible positions or numbers in my head over and over, or stare at something. I notice if I'm listening intently and trying to memorise - a tensing of certain muscles trying to quieten down the sounds of my body - be it air in my nostrils or other rustling sounds that distract from moving around.

According to my average heart rate and VOX, I'd burn ~1100 calories/hr windsurfing (short boarding) ~950 calories/hr badminton (relatively competitive) ~800 calories/hr cycling (25 km/hr) I think you'd really have to take in to account exactly how you perform any activity you do than rely on this. Heart rate is probably your best indicator.

I'd actually say sparring is the most calorie burning exercise. Especially if you're fighting two people at once. It requires a very high endurance and strength. My martial arts teacher says sparring is the most exhausting exercise he's ever done, and he's tried pretty much everything. Nothing was even close to how tiring it can be to fight someone else, especially if that person has as much training as you and if you're going for a while, we usually go for like 3 minutes with no breaks, which doesn't sound like a lot but it feels like a lot

As upcoming competitive rower, I miss the "Rowing (competition)" slot. It burns a heck of a lot calories over 2k (2000m) You can: Skiff (1), 2 (oars or scull), 4 (oars or scull), 8 (oars or scull) Really intense excercise is rowing. You can wear 2 layers of sportswear yet not get it cold in winter.
@BurriedTruth2 жыл бұрын
Whats your stance on regularly using rowing machine in the gym? I want to join the gym but mainly want to focus on the cycling, jogging and rowing machines. Can i just hop in or is it better to exercise something else before using the machine?
@krokse2 жыл бұрын
@@BurriedTruth I mean id say just watch a video to get familiar with the technique. Many people mistake the rowing machine as some crazy upper body focused machine, when in reality most force comes from the legs. But considering I started rowing with no fitness expierence prior and was quite young you can defo incorporate it in your workout
