This story is the best example of a creepypasta that starts almost believable and then goes absolutely out the rails to the point of not being scary anymore lmao

I remember my brother showing me this creepy pasta when I was like 14?? Or so? It wasn't on the creepypasta website, and he presented it to me like he was showing me an interesting news article. I believed the first few paragraphs completely, began to question it when shit got involved and soon after realised it was completely made up. There was a lot of "nooo this isn't true that's not a thing!!!" and him trying to convince me it was real lol. The prank was honestly too funny to be mad at tho 10/10 great shenanigans

When I was younger, I never read the actual story because I hated the image of the dude, yeah? You know, the one? And I would keep getting nightmares about it because like, damn that picture was scary to an eleven year old me. Now that I've read and heard it read aloud it isn't.. that scary. Honestly it's kind of just like “yeah this is happening I guess. Cool.”

Right!? Excellent premise, but the ending is just too extra. Would have been way more effective if they'd done more psychological/behavioral stuff and toned down the completely medically unrealistic body horror. Ah well, this one's one of the older classic creepypastas.

@@DanielleVlog365 These kinds of stories, in my opinion, honestly mostly only ever work when FULLY illustrated. Example: Junji Ito manga. I like to think of it like a "point of no return," but for creepypastas it's a "point of definitely should return." Like, dial it back, kiddo, you had a good thing going. The best scary stories are the ones that are not too outlandish to assure ourselves that it's fake. The chance of something spooky being a possibility in our realm of reality is the scary part. Once you push it to far, like this Creepy Pasta ends up doing, you know it's fake and are therefore lulled back into security. Still, it's a classic CP.

This isn't scary, primarily because we know quite well what happens when you are deprived of sleep for days on end, as the person who set the record was monitored at all times by the record keeping authorities. The world record was set and documented, but there have been studies keeping mice up for longer killing them for inexplicable reasons. The persons brain was functioning as if asleep, hallucinated with all of his senses and experienced paranoia that lead to his irritability. Lots of creepypastas originate from the somethingawful forums in the early-mid 2000s when online anonymity was a lot more achievable. I think this one is from that time period? I took a psychology class in high school and when we got to the sleep chapter, someone asked about the Russian Sleep Experiment and whether it was real or not. It’s crazy how many people think creepypastas are real. The writers are phenomenal

To add onto that, it’s also crazy that we live in a world where we’ve conducting horribly unethical experiments on others enough that people genuinely question if something this horrific was actually done.

The was a world record and the person who completed it showed his brain was actually shutting down in places as if sleeping. It was pretty cool. So. Even though this is a work of fiction, it holds a grain of truth to it that makes it very dear to me. I have a disorder called dermatillomania that causes me to obsessively pick at my skin when I'm stressed or - what else? - sleep-deprived. And some of the scariest, most out-of-control moments I have had in my life came when I was very, very sleep deprived and found myself doing serious damage to my own body. The little voice in my head that was still me would plead for me to stop while my brain just kept piloting my fingers until the moment I was finally able to snap myself out of it. I don't know that most people understand the fear I try to convey when I describe those moments. So in a way, this story makes me feel seen.

Oh hi im so sorry this happens to you. I also have massive issues with skin picking but not as severe as yours. It's been 6 years that ive been trying to quit and its scary because it sounds so simple not to do that but then why havent i ?? Just ?? Stopped?? Its so frustrating and i dont want it and a lot of times i do it thinking "please dont do this, i dont want to" like someone else was doing it to me thats how hard it is to control:((( I hope you're getting better

@@parapluie00 Thank you for the well wishes. I haven't had an episode like that in years thankfully. Idk if you're interested in advice but I can tell you what helped me was identifying potential triggers (lack of sleep, high stress) and then doing what I can to mitigate those triggers. A fidget cube to keep my hands busy has also been a big help.

This creepypasta has been around for years and I discovered it fairly early in my life. The description of prisoner becoming slowly and slowly more deranged as the experiment goes on, to the extent that they receive information from/become these ancient demonic creatures that articulate their situation in such a terrifying way has scared the shit out of me since I first came across this story. The idea of Shane bringing 5 kazoos to this experiment has removed any sense of terror that I might have felt while watching this story and all I can think to do is thank you

One of my psychology teachers brought up this “experiment” whilst we were doing the sleep unit. At least four of us had to let him know it wasn’t real which was a shame because he was an excellent teacher otherwise. RIP Mr. Brown

I will admit, I was pretty young when this was floating around and I think it was presented to me as a Real Thing That Happened, possibly with the violence toned down a little but it was so long ago I can’t remember, and I definitely did believe it at the time and now looking at it with adult eyes I’m like wow yeah this is fun but super fake
