I used to live in Roswell, NM and one thing people generally don't know about NM is that there is rampant untreated schizoaffective disorders and psychosis in that state. When I lived there it felt like everyone had at least one person in their family suffering from obvious psychosis. Part of it is a result of the American government treating NM like a bomb testing playpen (causing environmental factors that make people physically and mentally sick through generations), but a lot of it is a lack of adequate treatment resources (and a lot of people therefore just... living with untreated psychosis). So whilst I am saying "the bodies reported at the Roswell crash 100% could've been manifestations of schizoaffective telephone," I'm saying it with a degree of seriousness asking people to look at the situation with empathy instead of the usual response--which is "oh, if you said you saw something in NM, what were you smoking and how much did you drink with it?" Anyway, sorry to bring the mood down a bit, but I really loved this ep! Honestly the crash really impacted the culture in Roswell, so any video talking about it brings back happy memories.

also a new mexican, born and raised. this is a really empathetic response & it's really lovely to see someone note it. there's such bad mental illness here (as well as drug use & the whole downwinder mess as you noted) that i think it really affects the culture and attitude, including the roswell crash. i do kinda wanna point out, too, that the proximity to the bases also fucks w everyone's heads, as i'm sure you know. it's like oooh what IS the air force doing down there? (and don't get me started on those fuckers at white sands lol) there's all this weird shit the government gets up to that most of us just don't know about. so add that paranoia to the pre-exisiting rates of mental illness et cetera & it's really primed for that sort of deal. also -- utterly off topic here, but s/o to roswell for unironically having one of the most kickass municipal art museums i've seen! 10/10 would go again

I have a ton of family in Roswell, been down there quite but over the years, it's definitely a strange little town with some quirky people for sure! While there is certainly a case for the treatment of mental illness down there, I think the reason Roswell comes up so much isn't really from the residents as much as it's the government's initial response and reports that were later completely denied/covered up that people still hang onto. Like they didn't really do a good job of getting their story straight in the beginning, and so it will forever be the thing people point to. Also fun fact, while it's always listed as the Roswell incident(because it was the closest real town), it was actually about 70 miles away as the crow (or ufo) flies 😅

@@minomushi_hitogata Dark Forrest Theory is dumb, because it would require every technological species to think of that hypothesis before inventing the radio(which we as humans already disprove because we didn't) Also any super hostile aliens with genocidal intent wouldn't need our radio signals to find us, the Earth has been a life supporting planet for billions of years, it's oxygenated atmosphere would be a clear indicator of this, and thus they'd be able to see us that way before we even became intelligent and started developing technology. There is no stealth in space, if they look they will see, so there is no reason to try to hide, if you truely believe in Dark Forrest Theory, we should be investing more, not less, into our visibility as a bluff.

I actually know an older woman who worked at Area 51. She was one of the record keeping staff and was in charge of filing any and every piece of documentation that was produced. She worked there during the 60s, 70s and 80s, so she helped to make sure everything went from physical documents to the government’s actual records database. I say all that just to say that, without actually telling me, she pretty much confirmed that Area 51 was nothing more than a tech and weapons testing and development facility. Since Ryan quoted Carl Sagan, I'll also point out that he argued that any society that has the technology to travel across galaxies is also highly likely to destroy itself. There is an amazing ufo story from a village in Poland, that probably Shane would love because of it’s multiple twists and turns. Highly recommend checking out the story of Emilcin and the abduction of a local farmer- Jan Wolski. There is a lot of vintage video footage of interviews with that guy

Something interesting to think about, is that we don't have an exceptional record of successful landings on other planets either, a lot of times things crash because of malfunctions and other issues, or because that's what we meant for them to do anyways, and we're just throwing stuff around in our solar system, imagine doing that across interstellar distances somehow.

This was actually a far more respectful and wonderfully made video than I expected from the topic of aliens. Unfortunately, one of my favourite KZbinrs recently made a video about aliens, and it went down the same typical pipeline I've seen before of "the ancient non-white people couldn't do anything for themselves, it was all aliens" that I've seen time and time again from other channels, and I didn't at all expect that behaviour from him, so I was genuinely nervous and worried about watching this one because of how betrayed I felt by that video. All in all, this was very well-made, covered a lot of alien proof and did it all without having to bring down the accomplishments of ancient people of colour. I can't say I'm shocked, because I knew Ryan was a better and more intelligent person than that, and even if something slipped through, Shane would immediately tell Ryan about how that's the wrong way of thinking (that's what best friends are for), but it was still a pleasant reminder that there are still great people on this site who just have differing beliefs.

I saw a UFO in 2021, my dad doesn’t believe me, but my mom does because of how similar my sighting was compared what my grandma saw. I could tell it was metallic, and it had a rounded pill shape, no seams or anything, just flawless, floating through clouds at a fixed altitude, then it disappeared into the clear blue sky (it was midday). Another crazy thing about it was that I was in Nevada, around 50 miles or so from the Area 51 base.

Don't let any Sayers bum you out. I've had a experience too. I was sitting outside looking at the stars having a smoke. I saw a thick green streak go down the sky. And thought at first what a badass comet I saw. Then at approximately a 45 degree angle it shot up towards space. Still a neon green in color. I was freaked tf out. Because generally comets don't go back up.

Real talk - every time I stumble across older vids of people freaking out over UFOs/UAPs, I’m instantly thrown back to two months ago. That was when I had zero clue about Starlink and ended up recording it, my reaction swinging between totally embarrassed and genuinely amazed. 😅 So, seeing those reactions in the old clips? I totally get it now. Anyone else had a ‘what in the cosmos is THAT?’ moment before realizing it was something totally explainable?

I saw a low-floating sky lantern when driving along a deserted stretch of road at night, and didn't know what it was at first. That feeling of dread was something I'd previously only experienced in nightmares. My mother was in the car with me, and was like, "chill" - she knew what it was right away. Ironically, she's more of a believer in UFOs than I am, due to an experience that happened to her family.

I had something similar happen. I was out wandering around in the middle of the night after a little bit of a mild mental breakdown. I’d found a picnic table along the hiking trail and just laid down on it to stare at the sky while I sorted my brain out again, and suddenly this straight line of about 5 to 8 “stars” start moving along the sky like they’re going on a fucking trip! I was… confused, to say the least.
