Maurice Lacroix Manufacture Grande Date & New Way of Working

In today’s video, we took our WatchMobile to Saignelégier in the lovely Jura Mountains to visit Maurice Lacroix which has come out with a new timepiece for their Aikon Collection.
But what is very interesting is the fact that they have been extremely transparent on how they achieved this new piece; focusing on in-house caliber development with but outsourcing to suppliers whose involvement has also evolved. Instead of delivering components, suppliers have understood that they need to offer more and integrate some of the steps previously performed by others. This is just a good example of changing times and this absolute need to adapt to it.
In this case, they revisited the movement of one of their most successful timepiece, the Masterpiece Gravity with its balance wheel on the dial side, adding a “big date” complication to the movement to create the Aikon Master Grande Date.

Great transparancy, as a person who"s worked for a decade on the trade its quite rare to see a company admit that their movement is not made in house, just designed, and nothing wrong with that. Great job Maurice Lacroix!

Apple has been doing it for decades. What’s wrong with that. It is the best way to go. You cannot compete with specialists in manufacturing. Concentrate on the design and let others who are good at it make for you at a reasonable price. Brilliant model. We all win.

Unfortunately this model is not at all bargain priced the way the rest of the Aikon line is. This is pricing out at 8900 CHF or over $9500 usd

@@davec3651 I fully expected this watch to be in the $7500+ price bracket, if you have followed the brand at all they have done some amazing things and most of their Masterpiece collection timepieces start in that range. If you consider the complication of the big date with the amazing in house design of the power train it is still a huge value proposition against any other brand offering that same level of craftsmanship. I have held several masterpiece collection watches in hand and the finishing is typically superb. I have not seen this new one in person, but if it is of the same level of quality as the others I have seen (square gears, gravity, mystery seconds) then I would be very very impressed indeed. Also you will I’m sure have the benefit of being able to find this watch at a fairly decent savings upwards of 20% in the very near future. I will be keeping my eye on this one for sure. Cheers

Due to the movement the watch is getting that size. Getting what they want, namely the look of the dial, makes some parts expand the movement.
