The Panerai Radiomir Egiziano 341 comes in at a whopping 60mm... the world's largest watch. You may have noticed the trend for larger watches growing in recent years. Case sizes have been expanding from 40mm to 45, 50 and even 55mm. These watches are coming from brands like Hublot, Audemars Piguet, and here's the biggest of the lot. This watch review uncovers something else; this Panerai set standards in size before it was cool. Way, way before.

It was made to be worn over a thick rubber dry suit that divers wear. It was not designed to be worn on the naked wrist.

Watches of these size shouldn't be called wristwatches anymore. They need to create a whole new category for these giants. They should be called ankle-watches or arm-watches ;-)

An excellent video as usual, the video quality the voice and the knowledge behind the voice are on a completely different level compared to other watch channels, mine included! Unfortunately the watch leaves me cold as it is too big for my legs, let alone wrists. It really is comically large, but I am sure there are people with wrists large enough to pull it off, it's just not me 😄

2:33 - engraved in the back is an "SLC" human torpedo, with its crew of two on board. SLCs (Siluro a Lenta Corsa, i.e. Slow-cruising Torpedo, nick-name "maiale", "pig") were used extensively in both World Wars and they are responsible, among others, for a decisive victory against the Austrian Navy in WW1, which helped making Italy a winner of the war, and the sinking of some British destroyers in WW2. Because of this, they are widely praised by Italian military enthusiasts and became important characters in Italy's military history. I guess the reason they are engraved is to underline that this watch is designed for heavy-duty underwater activities.

I am a little surprised to not see a higher number of positive comments about the PAM 341. It IS a great video, by the way. I feel lucky to have acquired an Egiziano Grosso within the past year - #91 of 500. I wear it regularly and it keeps great time. Upon acquisition, I also rec'd the box, the coffee table book, the tools and extra plexi-crystal. Owe to the date today, nine years after manufacture, I will have the watch serviced soon, if only to ensure the watertight seals, etc. are OK. I'm a big guy, wearing a size 54 suit coat (wish I was smaller) and I have rec'd many compliments on this watch when worn. I am intrigued with the design and the functionality, but also the history of this watch and the history of the original model, made for the Egyptian Navy. OBTW, the luminescence is tremendous. Cheers.

the limit for me is 44mm. I have a slightly large wrist but a 44 will fit any medium-large wrist for a daily. As long as it isn't too thick, a 44 will fit anyone. Anything bigger will look ridiculous for those wondering: I have a 7" 1/4 wrist and wear a 32mm daily. There's no such thing as too small, only a too big

The world's biggest watch? Not even close I'm afraid. The Invicta Sea Hunter is an order of magnitude larger with a 58mm bezel diameter (70mm to the crown guard). It's a massive 520-550g hunk of 316L stainless steel on your wrist. In fact, just the bracelet alone is 30mm wide.

I am confused...Panerai Radiomir Egiziano (Ref: PAM00341) was not made for the Italian Army, but the Egyptian Army, hence the Italian name Egiziano... The other piece, Panerai Luminor Submersible (Ref: PAM00664) was made specially for the British Royal Navy’s Clearance Branch. Otherwise, a fantastic review of the Egiziano!

If you throw aesthetics out of the window and look at modern digital tool watches that are designed strictly with ergonomics (readability, ease of operation, comfort, safety) and robustness in mind, the ones with traditional round cases have dimensions that average around 50mm, 52mm lug to lug, 17mm thick, 24mm strap, so I guess those are optimal from a functional perspective.

Panerai Radiomir Egiziano most certainly not the biggest watch. In 1959 Soviet Navy had commissioned a little Swiss company, called Invicta to create a watch case for Soviet heavy divers. Invicta came up with a watch nowadays known as "Invicta Russian Diver". This watch had a case diameter of 64mm WHITHOUT crown or lugs. Only 100 watches were made by Invicta itself before Soviets bought a whole production line for these watches and started making their own under "Zlatoust 191ChS" markings. Although the Soviet watch is only a 60mm in diameter (stainless steel was used instead of duralumum) it is still thicker than Radiomir Egiziano and definitely heavier pushing weight to 250 grams. Zlatoust 191ChS are sold on e-bay for $400-$700. Modern Invicta Russian Diver "Homage" availability is obvious, although it has little to do with an original.
