There are other items I would recommend: 1. A set of loupes with different magnifications, with special emphasis on a10x magnifying loupe 2. A box of different sized spring bars 3. A caliper of sorts (digital or analogue) 4. A watch maintenance tool case, particularly one with a bracelet-sizing tool and various caseback-removing tools 5. Various buckles of different colours (silver, gold, black, etc) 6. A set of tiny screwdrivers 7. Some Polywatch crystal scratch repair paste (for plastic crystals only).

3:23 you can still use a tape measure to measure your wrist, just wrap a piece of string or something flexible around your wrist and then measure the length of that with the tape measure 👍🏻

If you have a watch with an exhibition back or an open face, a loupe can get you deeper into your watch's movement and see some of the stuff seen in TWF's macrophotography. You also can wow your AD when you decline their offer to use their loupe and whip out your own. 😊

Nice selection but mostly on the pricey range. £1500 for a triple watch winder, I have 3 double ones that cost me around £150 total and keep my watches running perfectly.I agree that a good leather strap or bracelet is worth spending the money on. Usual excellent podcast style video, keep them coming. 👍👍⌚😎

I would add a compass or Lepsi app to check to see if any parts of your watches, especially the mechanical ones, are magnetized. A demagnetizer. Combined for less than $20, but definitely useful for watches that are running out of specs. Cost effective if you have a few watches and they started to run too fast or too slow. There are strong magnetic fields everywhere now, like the mobile phones, especially their magnetic cases, and your watches can get magnetized so easily. There are movements and cases that are resistant to magnetism, but most older ones are not. Also a timegrapher for those wanting to get into that rabbit hole.

One thing I need more than anything is a good way to store all my straps and bracelets in a way where they don’t just end up either bunched together like NATOs or risk scratching each other like bracelets. Preferably in a way that makes it easy to see all my options when pondering a strap change.

Is that a Velcro strap at 03:23? I've been looking to get one of those, as I'm tired of my watch strap always being a bit too loose or a bit too tight. Where to you buy one? What is it called (as calling it a Velcro strap would be too commonsensical)?
@aidinmcinerney6512
@aidinmcinerney6512 2 жыл бұрын
Tudor refers to it as a "self gripping fastening system", partially because Velcro is a proprietary brand name and partially because they probably don't want you to think of $15 Timex kids watches in the same sentence as there's. If you look up Velcro watch strap on your internet shopping site of choice I'm sure you'll be able to find one

Measuring your wrist: just go to that one popular blue and yellow Swedish furniture store and get a free paper tape measure. Sure, they do break pretty easily but if you're careful they won't and even if they do if you have some basic knowledge of not even mathematics but just numbers, you can use even a broken one. Save on watch winders by getting a pet rat, and getting your rat a padded, soft cage (so it doesn't bang up the watch you put around its neck to be wound up while not in use). For opening up screw-down case backs just use an actual squash ball. Sneak into your local squash club and you'll find old balls there for free. If you like handling some old blue balls you might even make a few quid while you're there.

I don't have room for the numerous watch winders and/or conventional cases that I'd need to "properly" store my collection. Shamefully, I'd been keeping everything in a couple of open, stackable bins for years. (This caused a few repairs and one fatal accident.) Then one day I was in a popular store that sells containers and saw these handsome filing cabinets from a brand called Bisley. They are tall and narrow, with 10 shallow drawers which can be configured with a few different types of organizing inserts. The 3x3 insert fits up to two watches in each compartment, lying relatively flat, if you don't mind them touching a little. Obviously, this system doesn't allow for nice little pillows, but I largely collect field/rugged stuff so this doesn't bother me. Right now I've got four drawers of doubled up watches, leaving several for straps and tools or future collection expansion. I'm sure some will see this as insane, but it neatly solved my serious space/safety situation and I'm pretty happy with it.

As a burglar, I can thoroughly recommend you buy a watch box and preferably one that can hold all 64 of your Richard Milles. But first consider the working man and make sure it's not too large for my bag for life, because remember, I care too! Travel cases and watch winders are fiddly,, generally obscene and bought by wankers. So, be cool, box up and always remember to renew your insurance 🙂

Squishy ball - yes Straps - personally I find these poor value for money. They get manky after a few years. Just get a decent bracelet, which will last 20 + years. Watch Winder - only needed for a Perpetual Calendar where you don’t want to reset the complicated day/date/year. Get a Weishi Timegrapher - endless fun, and with your rubber ball getting the case back off, you can learn how to regulate your mechanical watches
@frankpentangeli7945
@frankpentangeli7945 2 жыл бұрын
You failed to mention that watch winders are only useful for automatic watches. I think they're a waste of money anyway, because I enjoy winding and setting my mechanical watches in the first place, but they surely are completely useless when it comes to hand-wound and quartz watches. Also, if you want to measure your wrist, all you have is a metal tape measure or a ruler and you don't want to go out and buy one of those flexible taylors' tape measures, then just take a piece of string, wrap it around your wrist, mark the spot where the string meets itself, and then measure that with your ruler or metal tape measure. It's not that difficult.
