My take on the showdown: Dive: Aquis > Doxa (Tom) Driving: Edifice < Sinn (Andrew) Aviation: TH Autavia < Longines Avigation (Andrew) Dress: Cartier > Nomos (Tom but this was close) Wild card: Grand Seiko > Alexander Shorokhoff (Tom wins by default since that Alexander Shorokhoff model is limited edition and sold out) Thus, Tom wins 3-2 against Andrew.

Hahahaha all great choices! I have the Oris Aquis Gen 1 @ $800……. Junghans Meister Telemeter @ $1000 ……. Nomos Club Datum @ $1000 ….. Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical @ $350 …Seiko SKX @ $250 Granted that these were purchased used but as new. Total for 5 watches = $3400.00

I have a Doxa 200 and one thing to add is that the case of this watch is manufactured by Huguenin Frères & Cie which also produces the case of the Omega Speedmaster, the Omega Seamaster 300 and the Eberhard Scafograf 300. This results in a very similar case design and wearability adding more to the already important history behind the Doxa brand and watches.

Just to make the prices even more complicated: GBP prices have tax included. But when you read USD prices, tax is NOT included, because they have a different tax percentage per state... So in the end, the GBP might actually be cheaper ;-)

Of course I like Your Russian/German wildcard pick. Although I find seeing its movement a bit disappointing. The lush decoration can't hide that the 3105 calibre is a stripped down 3133. Meaning, it's a chronograph-movement without the chronograph parts. And that's where the Swiss heritage comes in. When Valjoux stopped producing their 7734 movement (which was based on the Venus 188 btw.), they sold their machinery to the Poljot-factory in Moscow, where the movement got a few more jewel-bearings and a higher beat-rate and was continued as the now famous 3133. Unfortunately that one has been discontinued in 2011. As has the 3105. Hence the limited editions, probably.

4:1 for Andrew (Tom got his point with the Cartier). If I had $10K to spend on five watches, I think it'd be something like: 1. Diver - I concur with Andrew on this one, the Doxa Sub 200 is awesome. I'd go for the Sharkhunter on a bracelet ($990). 2. Driver - I was thinking of Racer by Anton Suhanov, but it's a bit more expensive at $17K. So, my choice is Farer Elvington ($618 on rubber). 3. Pilot - no hipster stuff here. Stowa Flieger Classic 36 ($1,260 for hand wound). 4. Dress - tough one, I don't do dress watches and I don't have any (I haven't even got a suit). But if I had to choose, it'd be Le Régulateur Louis Erard x atelier oï (around $3,300). 5. Wild card - this one is easier. I'd definitely buy one of my grails, the Raketa Avant-garde Limited Edition (around $1,460). Honorable mention - H. Moser & Cie. Venturer (the Vantablack one, it's an absolute grail of mine and made of 100% pure unobtainium for a little more than $25K). So, I've got a total of $7,628 for my collection and looks like there's some spare change on a couple (dozen) G-Shocks. What do you guys think? :) P.S.: about that decoration on the Alexander Shorokhoff watch - there's a decoration style that is called "Neva waves" (Raketa uses it to decorate movements). I think that was Shorokhoff's point with this one as well, a reference to Neva waves.

it's true, i love looking at my dials, but don't really pay attention if it's quartz, mechanical, or automatic. Tom, referring to the Cartier's 36mm case size......"it is a bit small." No sir, it is perfect. Cartier refers to this size case as "medium." I like the Nomos also, and believe the case size is perfect. What people are missing is that the 38-43mm case sizes, that seem magnified on a person's wrist, look more like a caricature of a proper watch. Thank you Cartier.

To date there isn't one (1) single watch Sinn makes that I like. I had the Longines Big Eye black dial which was just ok. IF I was going to choose a 'Pilot /Aviator watch', I'd have to make a decision between an original World War 2 vintage A Lange & Sohne B Uhr Observers watch, or one of the modern Laco replicas. For closest realism the Laco 'Erbstück' watches are modern day replicas, artificially aged to look exactly like genuine vintage watches.....At almost the same price as a real one, but without the genuine history.

Hi Andrew, Maybe you can do a Real watch vs Smart Watch episode? Sometimes I`m quite torn between the both, some smartwatch/fitness trackers need to be worn on our arms 24/7 and that leave little time for `real` watches. Who should I bring out for my jog/work/commute? I`ve seen some people wearing both, but I just find it inappropriate.
