Watchgang Platinum April 2022 VS Horology 101 Special Purchase

Orvin (according to their site) was "born in Switzerland in 1941, but for three decades, not a single Orvin was sold in Europe."They were instead sold in the US by SEARS and Roebuck. That particular watch is listed at $525.00 on their website. If you consider that paying for a Platinum subscription is $400.00 plus tax; you're barely getting any value if you get an Orvin or another obscure brand. If I was to receive a West End, or NTH; I'd be fine with that. However, it seems that an Orvin would be on the lower end of the Platinum spectrum and not something with the following of an NTH that another collector would want to buy if you were to trade it/sell it.

I cant believe they raised platinum to 400 dollars, i think the watches plus the kind of cool surprise box element, plus all the drawings that you get entered into is maybe a 200 dollar value. I would probably be ok with paying 150 for any of the watches that i wanted from watchgang. No chance ill be signing up again haha.

cool video, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed watching, and i like the idea behind it. What can a guy get elsewhere on his own, compared to the mystery of watchgang. But the guy you got sending you a watch here, sent you another watchgang platinum teir watch for your comparison against wg, so im kind of confused. Kind of, eh, crappy of the guy to send you a used wg watch for your comparison video. Atleast imo. And a defective wg platinum watch at that. That bezel is supposed to turn, ive had 2 of those jL chagals before, but 1 of them did have an issue with the bezel being difficult to turn. Still worth what you paid for it though, except in this comparison, you're getting a used wg platinum watch that has an issue of the bezel not rotating properly for the same price as a brand new wg platinum watch with no defects. I'd say wg has the upper hand in this comparison.

Thanks for watching. And yeah, it was an old platinum watch, with some serious use on it haha. in the end i really like the orvin and wear it sometimes but traded the chagall away so i guess watchgang won. I do not feel slighted by the other watch, however. It was almost a real cool watch, but it was just a bit too wide with that hump on the left side for me.

I prefer the look of the Orvin but the Selita is a better movement in my opinion.

I definitely agree about the movements! I do catch myself wearing the orvin fairly often though!

The Orvin is a great looking watch! I may try to see if i can swap in a flat crystal though. I think it would be a really nice wearing watch if it wasnt a domed crystal. But at least its a sapphire and AR coated

Yeah, i found the guy by making a post in a buy/sell group on facebook to sell me a watch but not disclose what the watch was. I explained that they would be basically competing with watchgang platinum at the discounted price thati paid, at 160.87/month. I paid him, about a week or so later he got the watch in the mail. That watch wound up feeling too large for me and got traded off, but was pretty cool.

If you are on facebook, “watch gang exchange - unaffiliated and unfiltered” is a good one, most of my deals come from there. If you are on reddit, “r/watchexchange” is popular, though i have yet to do any deals there.

The Orvin looks great - sad seeing those great Explorer-ish arabics interrupted by the date though :) Maybe a white on black at the 4:00 (If any) would have really elevated the design.

The watch gang watch is actually decent, high beat movement which I find unexpected. Their both worth what you paid I think, I seen some watch gang black tier videos and they suck again, glad I unsubscribed.
