Bring It On Movie Description:
A champion high school cheerleading squad discovers its previous captain stole all their best routines from an inner-city school and must scramble to compete at this year's championships.
Bring It On is a 2000 American teen comedy film directed by Peyton Reed (in his theatrical film directing debut) and written by Jessica Bendinger. The film stars Kirsten Dunst, Eliza Dushku, Jesse Bradford and Gabrielle Union. The plot of the film centers around two high school cheerleading teams' preparation for a national competition.
Bring It On was released in theaters in North America on August 25, 2000, and became a box office success. The film opened at the number 1 spot in North American theaters and remained in the position for two consecutive weeks, earning a worldwide gross of approximately $90 million. The film received generally positive reviews and has become a cult classic.
It was the first of the Bring It On film series and was followed by six direct-to-video sequels, none of which contains any of the original cast members: Bring It On Again (2004), which shared producers with the original, Bring It On: All or Nothing (2006), Bring It On: In It to Win It (2007), Bring It On: Fight to the Finish (2009), Bring It On: Worldwide Cheersmack (2017), and the TV film, Bring It On: Cheer or Die (2022).

they didn’t try to force a false friendship between Torrence and Isis and it’s very honest and mature for the time. They easily could’ve made the Clovers seem like assholes for not wanting to be “friends” - but once Torrence heard Isis, and accepted that she couldn’t deflect blame or pay her way out of their guilt, they actually showed that they were sorry by changing (competing honestly).
@Pinkladyisv
@Pinkladyisv 2 ай бұрын
It’s one of my favorite things about the movie. The Clovers are upset and get to stay that way without the movie making it seem like they are wrong to feel that way. Also Torrence had her heart in the right place but I love how they had Isis mention that the Clovers didn’t want her to pay their way.
@ARealGem88

The Clovers not only had Gabrielle Union but also the music group Blaque as well. The girl that said "You've been touched by an angel girl" was Natina Reed, a member of Blaque. Left Eye from TLC signed Blaque to her production company. Blaque sung the song "As If" in the movie.

Former cheerleader here. The Spirit Stick was absolutely a thing at the camps I attended, and it looked just like that, but without any bling. It was a real honor for a squad to be awarded the Spirit Stick (usually for the day), because it meant you’d done something that stood out. Not letting it touch the ground was also a thing, although it’s exaggerated for the movie.

Mel as a former cheerleader…Cheerleading is the ultimate sport. We’re gymnasts who have to also dance, tumble, and get thrown in the air over and over while also keeping our bodies from flailing while keeping a smile on our face the entire time (we get docked for not smiling lol). So much coordination involved!

51:42 This is the answer to Mell's question at the beginning, "What do people love so much about this movie". Because the ending was fair. The cast went to bootcamp to perform most of their routines. This is the best "Bring it on" I never cared to watch the sequels, the OG cast were not part of it anyway.

I forget how young all the movie reactors are, makes me feel old. 😂 At 27:21 Torrence and Aaron are using cordless landline phones, NOT cell phones. She’s not using anyone’s ‘minutes’. When this movie came out, cell phones were not as common as they are today. Now 7 and 8 year olds have them, but back then, they weren’t as common. Rich teenage girls in the 80s and 90s had landlines in their bedrooms, the rest of us just took the cordless into our rooms.

So envious of Mellow getting the chance to watch a couple of films with Mary. She's the best!! And the color coordination was splendid! This film brought Gabrielle Union to the attention of the general public. She was already around 29 when she filmed it but managed to pass for 18-ish. She's carried that youthful look throughout her career on into her 50s now. Kirsten Dunst was ten years younger and actually around 19 while Eliza Dushku (with the admirable hair and a memorable role in the great "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" series) was around 21.

I was a high school cheerleader in the 80's in L.A., and as RIDICULOUS as it is, that "Spirit Stick" thing really was a THING at those cheerleading camps lol. I went to two (at UCLA and San Diego State) and looking back, I think they used that as a means to try to keep hundreds of girls under control with a red/white/blue painted tube of wood - and it largely worked lol. It literally was like a 3-4 day cult when I think about it now 🤣. EDIT: For context, the "Spirit Stick" (maybe 3-5 of them; I honestly don't remember how many squads there were, but there was a TON of girls; boys weren't in cheerleading back then) was rewarded to squads at the end of every day. It was based on a combination of performance during all of the training, and also whether or not we were following the behavioral rules. Getting that cylinder of wood each night was a BIG DEAL if you got one... but you had to give it back the next day. Getting it on the LAST day was EVERYTHING... because that's the one you got to take home... and it was based on the cumulative result of whatever your performance and behavior had been over the whole camp. They really had us worshipping a stick for 3-4 days lol. Cult.

The Clovers girls probably recognized Torrance because she was in the team. The cheer competition was on TV every year and they watched it and saw Torrance in the squad back when big Red was captain. So when Torrance shows up in their school to watch the game with Missy, that could explain it :) And movies of that era had older actors because it wasnt common to use actual teen actors in movies. Especially depending on rating of the movie.

This movie showcased culture appropriation before I knew there was a term for it. 32:59 A position you can do is probably straddle. Like, the girl could be sitting foward on the guy's lap and yeah...bounce away. Lol

Y’all must be younger than I thought, calling him an older man for one school year of difference. 😂 I teach high school and I’ve noticed a trend in the last few years that kids now think it’s weird if you’re not in the same grade and you’re dating. I feel like I knew more people that weren’t in the same grade dating than were, and you typically see girls with older guys because of maturity differences. Few couples are the exact same age.

I knew Mello was young when he called the girl old and said she look 30. As someone in their 30s I'm like when did I get old 😢😂.

My hs was a smaller district so we were grades 7-12. Kids dating in different grades was completely normal (though senior guys trying to get with 7th and 8th grade girls was frowned upon). Like your school the boys were usually older in these relationships, and I was unusual for dating a boy a year younger.

I was in the 6/7th grade when this came out. I had the tape hehe lol… then the dvd. I watched this back to back… I learned the words, cheers, dance moves, everything lol. In hs my cheer team used one of the cheers and some of the dance moves we did came from this movie as well… what a time 😂
