If you look closely during the “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” song when the entire family is setting the table for dinner, you can see Dolores quickly turning around and tapping on the far wall where Bruno is behind. She even looks around nervous just before she goes it. So apparently she knew he was there and every dinner would tap on the wall to let him know it started so that he could “participate” from behind the wall. 😢

People say it was wrong of her to never mention Bruno still living in the house but honestly, she probably did mention something or tried talking to him but it never worked. She probably understood that some things are best left unspoken.

It wasn’t about literally hugging her sister it’s about fixing the broken relationship with her sister Mirabel is the key. She was the only one with the heart to protect the gift by always putting family before herself. No one else could see what was happening, or have the courage to do something about it but her.

I love Bruno and Camilo. Bruno is sweet and self-sacrifing. He's got similar traits as his father (Abuelo). Camilo is hilarious as the trolling teenage cousin. He is also a caring son to Pepa. I love how he playfully taunts Isabela about her engagement to Mariano. In his "account" about Bruno where he continually shape-shifts into his interpretation of his uncle. The funny part about this is he was the same age as Mirabel when she didn't get a door/gift. He is making the story up as he goes since his memory of Bruno is as fuzzy as Mirabel's memory. He concocts his version of Bruno as an ominous figure with a minion of rats and bizarre prophecies. Camilo does this to instill fear but not in a mean way. Camilo is like most teenage boys who likes to scare an impressionable sibling or cousin for laughs. Camilo is the mischievous comic relief in the family.

I adore your reactions! I love this movie and the representation. I'm white as snow, but my daughter is biracial (I'm white English/Irish and her father is Nigerian). She has hair like Antonio but her skin colour is more like Mirabel or Camilo. I can't wait for there to be more movies with representation like this! Also the music is so damn catchy, I can't stop singing about Bruno 😂

God, yeah, I love how even siblings can look so different, and it really reflects on how truly diverse latin americans are. Isabela has very distinct indigenous features, while Felix is very much afrolatino. Pepa is white and a redhead, and her kids have mixed features. The background characters are also super diverse. My dad is mexican, my mom is dominican and biracial, because her mom is descendant from french immigrants and her dad was afrolatino, so she's got mixed features, kind of like Dolores. I turned out pretty white and even blonde. My brother has super light skin but very thick, curly hair. Then you got my cousins, who have features of your "typical" mexican: prominent nose, dark skin tone with coppery undertones and very straight black hair. Us Latinos aren't really an ethnicity, but a bunch of different ethnicities with a shared social-cultural identity. This is why there's also a lot of mexicans, venezuelans, dominicans, chileans and so on that felt seen and represented with this film, even if it was explicitly Colombian.

I wish people would stop caring so much about what race of people Hollywood puts in their films...If you want your children exposed to people that look like them, show them people who made a difference in society, not because they got lucky and made it into a movie, but somebody who changed the real world for the better, somebody to look up to, not something a bunch of millionaires in Hollywood decided to do to make money off of minorities.

Yes of course showing children people in society that look like them is important, but you can't underestimate the psychological effect tv and movies have on us. Also, it's easy to say that sort of thing if you're one of those people that have always been represented.

Some fun things about the movie and Colombia, of course there are references to the culture throught the movie but here are some you can check out to go deeper: The tall palm trees in the background and the tallest in the world and are found in Colombia in a place called Valle del Cocora (go check out real pictures, its amazing) Also the river where they get miracle exists as well. There is a type of plant that grows in it that makes is look like a colored river. Its called Caño Cristales (go see it as well). In the Family Madrigal video, there is a part where she jumps through what looks like cracker jacks. That is a game called Tejo, similar to cornhole, but with a metalic puck that is thrown on a clay base with gun poweder packs. So much fun. Also, when Mirabel's father is talking to her about not telling anyone about the vision and they say time for dinner, he says "miercoles", its sort of a PG of says S H I T. In spanish it translated to MIERda, but we say MIERcoles to make it PG. In the movie you will see different dishes from different regions, like buñuelos, arepa con queso (there is a never ending fight with the Venezuelans about where the arepa was invented, but what ever) and at the dinner with the Guzman's they served Ajiaco. The clothes in the movie are actually a mix of typical clothing from lots of regions of the country, so its a little wierd as there are some for hot weather climates and others for cold weather. The country has three mountain ranges crossing the country so, all though we dont have seasons, there are all kind of climates in the different regions. On the sad side, the move references the civil war in Colombia known as the 1000 day war from 1899 to 1902. A very long and brutal war that devastated so many families. It alsp resulted in the loss of Panamá (yes people, Panamá was once part of Colombia) Hope this helps in your Encanto journey. Love your reaction 🤎

A great reaction as usual! :) Your intuition with this movie was quite miraculous, you could somehow just sense some things coming before they did For one, you were right at the very start of the movie. :D Mirabel's gift is being connected to the house. Essentially, she's inheriting Abuela's position, which is being the candle holder, and the core of the family. We can see these two woman "controlling" the house the most. And yes, the second guess was also correct. Connecting the family might not be Mirabel's "gift", but clearly she has a big heart, and in the film we get to see her bring the family together. She is the next matriarch the family needed. What exactly is the explanation for why she didn't get her own door at the ceremony is still a bit of a mystery. After all, Abuela has her own room too. I'm pretty alone with this theory, but this is what I thought the first time I saw the movie: That Abuela sort of sensed the shift of control, and she wasn't prepared for it. She might not have meant or realized it but, being the other person who controls how the house works, her hesitation caused for the gift ceremony to fail. Mirabel did still get her gift, but she ended up not getting her own room. I hope in the new house, she has one, even if she also created the front door.

Camilo shape-shifts but I believe by going through this process he sympathizes with his subject. It's him literally putting himself in their shoes and relieving them of their burden by lending a helping hand or letting others see a part of their life that they may not fully see or understand. When he shifts into Mariano at the breakfast table, he playfully taunts his cousin Isabela while also showing her the man she is to marry. Isabela is annoyed but I believe that this moment makes her see that she is not ready for marriage or love. He morphs into Mariano again during "We Don't Talk About Bruno" as sort of a reminder of her impending arranged marriage. This is another possible reason for the continuing cracks in La Casita, it's all the angst among the family members, especially the tension between Mirabel and Abuela Alma.

It's my personal pet theory- not canon, of course- that Mirabel's gift is the power of Musical Theatre. But just like most musical theatre, nobody seems to actually acknowledge that breaking into spontaneous song and dance is out of the ordinary; almost like it's a subconscious thing. Every time Mirabel is around someone who wishes to express some strong emotion they break out in song. Nobody ever has a soliloquy without Mirabel being around; it's gotta be her! But they don't realize that they've done anything; it seems natural, so they don't recognize her influence, thinking nothing special or magical is happening.
