This is actually a spin-off of the Titanfall franchise, so it's definitely worth checking out the trailers for those games as well. I was a Havoc boy because it was easier to use than Devotion and the L-Star became a Mozbique tier weapon in the eyes of the players but this season Devotion is a drop weapon and is Hellishly overpowered and the L-Star became a great gun that doesn't need to be reloaded. A looot has changed.

Fun fact: Apex did have tons of lore at release. You can find it all on the official Apex website www.ea.com/games/apex-legends/about/characters. It has pages for all the characters that tell about each of their backstory. As a bonus, you can find little stories for each of the legends that are laid out in different formats towards the bottom of each of the character's pages. There are things like Mirage's dating profile, Pathfinder's memory log, Caustic's death certificate, and lots more. In addition (though you might be a little to late to get them now) each of the in-game loading screens that were added in Season 2 and 3's battle pass have little text documents underneath them that go even deeper into the character's lore. You've probably been told this a million times or found out yourself, but with the season 4 trailer, the red robot is called Revenant and he is a Simulacrum which is a human mind uploaded into a metal frame which is what you see. Revenant is basically a robotic hitman controlled by the Syndicate which is basically the Mafia but more powerful. The thing with the glass shard is as follows. Basically, the programming built into Revenant makes him believe he's still human (which is what his reflection on the glass represents) but he died about 200 years before the trailer. The glass shard pierced that hardware so that's when he found out he was a robot.

Simulacra came about as a way for skilled Pilots (people who linked with Titans) to live past death when a copy of their minds are put into robotic bodies. The thing is...Revenant didn't want to become a Simulacrum but since he was the most skilled hitman in the Syndicate (who are the same people hunting Crypto I believe) they put his mind into a Simulacrum but programmed him to think he was still human. The glass he pulled from his neck in the trailer cracked the illusion and he's now back in the Outlands to get revenge on Hammond robotics (which is why he killed Forge).

My man's got it all right, Wattson best girl, revenge character coming later, the trailers got so much better over time and season 4 started dark. Love your reactions, they are honestly what I expected because its pretty much how we all reacted, this game has just been impressive despite some small hiccups. Also if you really want to know more about Apex Legends you should check out some of the Titanfall lore and some videos that cover the connections the games have. Its actually super cool how connected the games are.
