I fuckin loved this movie it was in my top 5 of 2023. I remember watching the trailer and that cheese grater moment made me physically cringe sm than seeing how it played out was brutal/gross (could’ve done a little more but that’s just me). Having kids in this movie bumped the stakes up so high cause this franchise likes to be brutal and fucked up with the kills so having children be potential victims I was so ready. Loved the new setting in an apartment building a lot more confined than a cabin in the woods. The mom was the best part of the movie that performance she was good before she was possessed but when she fully transformed I lived for every moment she’s terrifying. The gore was so good and the final girl in this movie was good she dealt with sm more than the previous leads in her first movie compared to the others first time dealing with deadites. That combined deadite is the scariest thing in the franchise.

Priests and friends: Man this book of the dead thing sure is dangerous and could possibly cause a world ending event Also the priests and friends: Let's put the warning on disc three. I also feel really bad for Danny. Kid was just trying to do right by his mom, thought he had found some weird old vintage thing he could sell and accidentally killed his mom and sister. I mean he tried to shut the chant off once he realized it was off, but the demons wouldn't let him. I also wonder if people are compelled to read it once they start, like they can't help themselves, almost like a mini possession, then they snap out of it once it's too late.

If you enjoy the Evil Dead movies, I highly recommend watching the unrated version of Peter Jackson's Braindead (aka 'Dead Alive') (1992) sometime. It's the greatest practical effects horror comedy ever made. I'm sure you'll love it.

Potentially controversial opinion - While I'm a massive horror fan, I'm not a huge fan Evil Dead (I had to check with friends there was no SA before watching because that tree scene was just a nope from me) but I was here for this movie until it fucked with the kids. It was devastating to watch the siblings turn on their aunt and little sister, especially as the Marauder creature. When the whole cast is teenagers, sure, whatever, but when it's like this and brings in younger kids and family dynamics and the kids aren't somewhat okay by the end....I can't. That being said, everyone did a fantastic job and the acting was brilliant and it genuinely freaked me out in cinemas and made me feel more than a bit sick. Also a big hell yeah to our (mostly) Aussie cast!!!!

This movie reminds me of World War Z, in the fact I'd probably like it more if it was named something else. When this movie was announced I was really excited, knowing Sam and Bruce were involved was great to hear! I avoid trailers so I didn't know what this would be, just what I expected it would be. They named the movie Evil Dead Rise, but completely wasted the setting. I thought we'd be getting an entire apartment building fighting deadites, getting like 3 or 4 different perspectives throughout the building, and cheering when the characters manage to meet up. So I was surprised when the actual movie just stayed in one apartment, plus one fish eye lens hallway scene. So while I don't think this is a bad movie, for me it didn't live up to its potential. Weird gripe: It bothers me that Ellie kept referring to her sister as a groupie, as I found it more unbelievable than walking demons. Both sisters are working alternative jobs, Ellie out here with her tattoo gun. I just can't imagine a tattoo artist calling a guitar tech a groupie. They could have made her a nurse, teacher, hell even a McDonald's cashier, just a more conservative job, and suddenly the groupie line works. I was sitting in the theater obsessing over that like a weirdo lol! 😂
