To be honest, this is pretty calm and nice behavior over a taboo topic, demonstrated on the drama, for a JW parent. When I was barely a teenager, my mom asked me if I was attracted to boys yet? I told her, I found some of them to be cute and sometimes found myself grinning and feeling butterflies around them. She yelled and lectured me, calling me a slut and comparing me to Jezebel, Harlot The Great, and said I had perverted desires. Then, when she asked me which boy I wanted? I said, I just thought some random boys I would see in thr neighborhood, store, or at meetings were cute; but, there wasn't a specific one I really had a crush on yet. She then told me EVERYONE has urges, and are evil sinners, and I was a filthy liar to say I didn't, especially after admitting I thought some boys were cute. She said if I didn't have urges for boys, I must be a lezbo. Then, she complained about how she always thought I was a perverted heart with inappropriate sexual desires for makes, and had lezbo desires too. She also accused me of being a pathological liar; and told me Jehovah was going to eventually throw me into thr Lake Of Fire And Sulfur, which is Gehennah (I forgot how to spell it), which means the second death, with no hope of a resurrection. So, for some JW, any attraction for any person is considered a sin; yet, if you deny having a desire you are a liar. You can't win.

Also my parents aren't homophobic or transphobic, they just refuse to allow me to be near them or any other non-believing family members because I now present in the gender that is different from what I had in the cult.

They need to see how cold and hateful Lett was about his on gay nephew who killed himself over being shunned fie being gay. He gave a lecture immediately afterwards about how any gay person resurrected needs to become straight to please Jehovah once resurrected. I think he did that weeks after his nephew died! He has NO compassion, even for his own family members. Disgusting. Let's say being gay actually is a sin to God. Wouldn't being so full of hate that you literally drive someone to kill himself, by shaming him and then pretending he doesn't exist, MUCH, MUCH worse! What a LACK of respect for the life God gave people, when we drive them to suicide! Lett better pray that if Jehovah is real, he has compassion on HIM, HIMSELF! As far as with the story if Lot, how is allowing your own virgin daughters to be gang raped, and later having sex with them yourself, holier than men who try to rape other men? All forms of RAPE is nasty! I think the biggest problem with the gay men in the story of Lot wasn't so much that they preferred men over women, but they WERE VIOLENT RAPIST! But, giving innocent girls to them isn't a reasonable solution.

I've had people give the argument that we just want to be "victims" and play the "victim card" and that we instigate the hate crimes on us by not letting them have straight pride, forcing acceptance and so forth. I also agree with your comment about a church telling you to be celibate and then talk about importance of family, sex and a spiritual sealing in the temple. I was Mormon. However they did the exact same thing telling you to be celibate, just find a girl to marry as several members have and they're happy, go to therapy (rarely but have been told that one) or go against your faith and baptismal covent by living in sin in my pursuit of a sane sex partner which is acting on it even if I get to close or stay over as a gay man. However still can't do that with women. Kissing, having dinner, holding hands is considered engaging in sexual acts yet these are allowed to unmarried heterosexual could but not considered a sexual act

Wait! The Organisation says it should respect others? As a verb, respect means to to show regard or consideration. Do they show respect for victims, potential victims or survivors of CSA? Hypocrites! Once again they say one thing but in reality do something else. When I was fully in the org I used to really respect the Governing Body and loved listening to their talks. Now when I hear them it just gets me angry because they are so deceitful. I started reading the New Testiment in the NWT recently with the Greek Interlinear at my side. They have been so deceptive in their new translation, apart from the stuff we all know about with them adding words like “other”, it’s amazing just how deceptive they are, just cross-reference the word Jehovah in the book of Acts and you’ll see what I mean. Or check out Acts 2:21, in that verse it says to call on the name of Jehovah where it should say the Lord, or simply read the context in the following: 9:14,21, 22:16 and even without the interlinear these verses clearly show who’s name we should call on. Now I know why some true Bible scholars call the NWT a deceptive and distorted translation.

I'd already been fading for a couple years by the time I realized I was bi, but it's definitely one of the many times in my life that made me examine the beliefs I was brought up with and reshuffle my entire thought system. Worrying about disappointing my dad was never a problem for me because we had basically been adversaries my whole life. 😅 ( I'd always questioned female opression in the bible, and was vocal about that from about 5 years old, and that caused a lot of, let's say, strife. And whoopings. I started to realize he had no right to me or to judge me, because he was an abusive alcoholic and because I shouldn't be treated like property; this caused even more discontent lol) My parents had been divorced for awhile by then, and mom relied on my unpaid labor, so I didn't worry about getting kicked out of the house for my sexuality when I told her. But I've still never told my dad, because it's none of his freaking business lol. The relationship I have with him is on my terms because I luckily woke up before I got baptized (age 12 is when the adults in my life--dad and elders-- would allow it, but I suddenly put on the brakes in 5th grade after the divorce--funny, experiencing disfellowshipment by proxy WAS good. Saved me from being baptized before I was even old enough to sign a contract, and ending up disfellowshipped for being myself!). I've never kept my sexuality secret from him, exactly, because he just doesn't really know me. He doesn't have a right to. But I HAD still grown up with the JW teachings about "practicing" homosexuality and how Jehovah hates it and all the additional satanic panic stuff built into it in the 80s/90s (lots of witchy lesbians seducing innocent girls with black nail polish and seances and DnD, y'know), so realizing i was bi and feeling closer in those relationships than I'd felt in relationships with JW boys reinforced an idea I'd already been having: it didn't matter to me whether everlasting life was true or not, because if I had to live forever around judgemental people and couldn't even be myself or love who i love, and had to be submissive and subservient, and be called awful things whenever I spoke my mind (the things it does to you, being constantly compared to your disfellowshipped mother or wayward aunt by the older sisters in the congregation and your misogynist father), I'd rather live my one life how I want and die. Now I ended up having a trans child, and am so glad I'd already gone through all my own stuff so I could be the empathetic, well informed, advocate parent I never had. Because even just being "accepting" isn't enough if you haven't also broken down your learned prejudices and homophobia; being "supportive" isn't enough if you won't speak up for them when they're not around, or if you police their existence when they are. Love from your parents OR from God shouldn't be conditional. And if it is, I don't want it. Amazingly, when I told my JW dad and Catholic grandma about my trans child, they had much more accepting responses than I expected. I suspect my take no shit boundaries with everyone has a lot to do with it, and this is probably another unintended consequence of JW shunning. 😅

My religion does not really condone with same sex marriage but our message is to love everyone no matter their race, SEXUALITY, gender, etc.. A positive thing we have though is the age you register to be part of the religion is age 16. You have the choice to keep following with the religion or follow your own path, you have enough time. You can be gay in the religion but you can’t have same-sex marriage but you need to appreciate and love everyone who are gay, no matter their situation. It’s sad how Jehovah puts on kids they can’t be gay or whatever but never really tell you to still love the people who ARE gay since it really shouldn’t matter if they are gay. Jehovah Witnesses are just trying to cover up their homophobia. Makes me angry.

JESUS gave us three commandments. 1. Love GOD above everything. 2. Love your neighbor AS yourself. On these two commandments, hang the law and the prophets and are found in Mathew 22 : 36-40. The other Is 3. "Love one another as I have loved you" and is found in John 13 : 34. The question I ask and never get a direct response to is, how does same gender love violate either of these commandments? □□□ Hating ourselves because of the sexuality we were born with violates the second commandment because you must love yourself. Loving others, same or opposite gender, doesn't violate any of the commandments. The Jehovah's Witnesses are wrong.

However, I disagree with your main point that isn't wrong to be homophobic or transphobic. Let me explain, if it's ok for gays/trans (which it is) to love anyone they like, for any reason they choice. Then I can dislike anyone for any reason I choice. What the label homo/trans phobic really says at its core. "You have to like/agree with my beliefs" making it another cult. Let me make it clear. I do NOT have to like or agree with anything, and labeling people as phobic is just another form of brainwashing and cult like. I choose who I like, who I dislike, who I agree with who I don't. Let me just say this. Can you be honest? What does the Bible say about homosexuality? Does the Bible support Watchtower publications about homosexuality? That would be a resounding, Yes. For those who listen to people like Jake without reading the Bible, let me post where and why Witnesses post this information. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 Or do you not know that unrighteous people will not inherit God’s Kingdom? Do not be misled. Those who are sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, men who submit to homosexual acts, men who practice homosexuality, 10 thieves, greedy people, drunkards, revilers, and extortioners will not inherit God’s Kingdom. Perhaps this is why Jake is depressed…. Hebrews 10:28-31 For if we practice sin willfully after having received the accurate knowledge of the truth, there is no longer any sacrifice for sins left, 27 but there is a certain fearful expectation of judgment and a burning indignation that is going to consume those in opposition. 28 Anyone who has disregarded the Law of Moses dies without compassion on the testimony of two or three. 29 How much greater punishment do you think a person will deserve who has trampled on the Son of God and who has regarded as of ordinary value the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and who has outraged the spirit of undeserved kindness with contempt? 30 For we know the One who said: “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again: “Jehovah will judge his people.” 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Jesus himself never said anything about homosexuality. And in fact the bible doesn’t say anything about specifically shunning family members until they come back to the church. A lot of us here have read the bible back to front and even IF Jehovah is real, him willingly creating a space where women are allowed to be beaten by their husbands and aren’t allowed to leave is not a god worth following.
