"We came here from a dying world. We drift through the universe, from planet to planet, pushed on by the solar winds. We adapt and we survive. The function of life is survival." Fun Fact: Robert Duvall, who had previously worked with Philip Kaufman on The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid (1972), happened to be in San Francisco at the time of filming, and shot his only scene for free. He plays a crazy priest playing on a swing. It's supposed to foreshadow the pod person anomie and alienation we feel later in the movie. Bonus Fact: Veronica Cartwright was not told that Sutherland's character had been captured and became an alien. When they filmed the ending in front of San Francisco City Hall and Sutherland pointed to her, imitating the pod scream, Cartwright's reaction of cold fear is authentic. Kaufman chose not to shoot the hopeful alternate ending (which was in the shooting script), where Matthew and Nancy give reassuring glances to one another--because he did not want to give the studio an opportunity to re-edit the film, which is what occurred with Don Siegel's original.

Let me get my snacks, I may even turn out the lights for this one! I have a real funny story about seeing this movie a few years ago: I went to someone's house: a couple with two kids. We eat dinner. It turns out we all get food poisoning. BEFORE we start feeling the effects of the food poisoning, we put on THIS movie. And as the movie is going on - as you know - the feeling of paranoia and dread starts building. Which coincided with the food poisoning coming on!!!! So as the movie is getting creepier and creepier, we're all getting more and more nauseated!!!! We just thought it was the movie being so damn good!!!!! In the middle of it, my friend said "I have to turn this off, this movie is really freaking me out." Everyone immediately agreed.......and within a half hour....well, let me tell you, it was a real scene, lol. My very own private horror movie!! Ok.....with that.....see you on the other side!!! :D (PS: Thanks Hubby, for the editing!)

"That screaming sound is going to be seared into my 🧠" The alien scream is some pretty iconic sound mixing. Body Snatchers is a creepy film, with some gross puppetry/stop-motion/practical effects. The paranoia of not knowing who to trust is palpable, along with the fear of falling asleep, and makes for a very gripping ride. For more young Donald Sutherland - MASH (1970) and Kelly's Heroes (1970) For a great spiritual successor to Body Snatchers - The Faculty (1998) For more Veronica Cartwright - The Witches of Eastwick (1987)

Great impression of Veronica Cartright in the intro! LOL!/The ending of the original book is not in ANY of the film adaptations: the aliens just leave and go away, if I remember correctly. It's an upbeat ending! lol. Each movie version has a different ending. The guy who gets hit by the car, warning everyone "they're coming!" is Kevin McCarthy, the star of the original movie! And in that version, he does the same thing, he is warning cars "they're coming! They're coming!" So this is almost like a sequel in a slight way. The original is in a small town; this brilliantly transposes it to a city. (The next one puts it on an army base: interesting choice, if you think about it! Are they just stoic soliders? Or are they they pod people?!)./3:47 - The priest on the swing is a cameo from Robert Duvall, definitely a big actor from the period!/7:48 - She could really roll her eyes like that! So they wrote it into the script! lol/You can't go to Antarctica or else The Thing will get ya! Damned if you do, damned if you don't! lol!/Veronica Cartright actually got Alien immediately after doing this movie. She actually didn't want to do "Alien" because of the character's emotional weakness, but they talked her into it. She's great in both movies, but especially this one! Definitely the two movies she's most known for, although she was in lots./ Totally love shadows and silhouette shots! Fantastic photography in this film! The cinematography, the sound design, the acting, the effects......this one has a lot going for it! The creation and sustaining of a relentless atmosphere of dread and paranoia: that's the REAL special effect of this movie!/FANTASTIC edit from your husband, by the way!!! Thanks, man!!!! You're a lucky guy, and she's a lucky gal! :D/34:30 - That's Don Siegel, the director of the original movie! They weren't' sure how they were going to end THIS version.....and Philip Kaufman (this film's director) actually invited Don Siegel and Kevin McCarthy to work on the ending, especially because they had made Don Siegel change the very, very ending to the original version. (It was supposed to end with him, in traffic, shouting "They're coming! They're coming!" as he does in this film before he gets killed off. In other words, it was supposed to have an "open-ended" downbeat ending. They tagged a little scene on where the cops bring him in and you get the feeling that he's safe in the arms of the law. People almost forget that that scene is in there, you just remember him saying "They're coming! They're coming! lol.) Damn, I wrote a book! So sorry!!! I won't write any more. LOVED THIS REACTION!!!!! My favorite of yours so far!!!! PS: Right after this, Philip Kaufman (who directed this movie) did a great film about the early NASA space program called "The Right Stuff", definitely worth doing. Veronica Cartright is in that as well, she's great! LOVE YA! THANKS!!!!!
