Film is an outstanding dark comedy, funny and sad simultaneously so you are not wrong. But when Dwayne found out he was color blind was Not played for laughs, in fact, for me its the most emotional scene in the movie, the revelation, the venting, his sister bringing him back, then his apology. Incredible scene.

Olive’s actress is pretty objectively attractive so it’s sort of weird that the show insists she’s “not a beauty queen”. She was just dressed like a normal kid in comparison. If she’s no beauty Queen, then I must be a troll under a bridge.

I just love how hilarious it is to see a little girl dirty dancing to a sex song and it be so adorable and innocent, especially compared to the previous girls. It's difficult to pin down into words but it's definitely a difference between a child just having fun and a child being made into a 'perfect' little girl mold.
@lukasribin4168

It’s definitely meant to portray the hypocrisy in the fact that Olive’s dance was no worse than the bizarre acts and displays of the other girls..just far more transparent and without pretension.

True story, when I was about seven or eight, my family was having lunch out. This guy approached me and my dad and asked him "hey is she little miss sunshine?" Neither of us had ever seen or heard of the movie so we had to look up later, but supossedly I looked like Abigail Breslin at the time. And apparently, that guy thought I looked like her enough to ask 😅

I had a feeling you would like this movie; it gave me similar vibes as The Way, Way Back, which I know is one of your favorite movies of all time. The scene where the brother finds out he's colorblind and can't fufill his dream is heartbreaking and so well-acted. It especially breaks my heart since I also deal with invisible disabilities. Steve Carell's character's arc is also very emotional as a queer person. I don't know what all awards this won, if any, but it definitely deserved them.

I love this film, family dysfunction at its finest. Abigail Breslin shines in one of her first major roles as Olive, and despite her family mostly being at loggerheads, they will still drop everything to try to get her to the eponymous pageant. Alan Arkin and Paul Dano also stole the show was as Grandpa and Dwayne, respectively.

I don’t know if nick edits his own videos or if he has an editor(s) but I want to applaud whoever it is. His videos are always so well edited, I feel like it includes such a great amount of content of the film and is cut down so nicely. It actually feels like it’s also for the audience to watch and not just like a reaction videos that have the film too quiet and we can’t hear anything or reactions that cut the most iconic or necessary part of the film that everyone’s looking for. And I totally get why some of reactions are like that, copyright sucks but having a good editor/being a good editor actually improves the reactions a lot

Way late but I agree. I also really appreciate that he didn’t censor much of Dwayne’s breakdown. It’s an extremely emotional scene and the F-bombs really show how distressed Dwayne was about his dreams being crushed. It’s meant to be raw and I’m glad Nick seemed to realize this as well and let it play primarily unfiltered.

Hey Nick, I’d like to suggest a rather unknown/unusual movie that reminds me of Little Miss Sunshine in a way. It’s called “Whale Rider”, it’s a coming-of-age story about a young Māori girl in New Zealand and how her native community (and her immediate family) deal with her desire to be a leader, even as she comes from a culture of patriarchal leadership. That may sound like a bit much, but it’s actually an incredibly relatable, touching story about respecting family and tradition while still being true to yourself. It’s not reacted too much on KZbin and I just want to share it with others! Thanks!!

Love Alan Arkin, ever since "the Last Unicorn". He was hilarious in "Spencer Confidential"too. Love the family working together to help pressure Olive to have her ice cream over Richards manipulations. 33:59, Word of God this is a dad of one of the girls who had been in several paegents, not some perv. Don't worry. Miss California telling Olive she loves ice cream is one of my favourite scenes, showing she understands how Olive might feel nervous. It's gross but it's the harsh reality these beauty paegants create. Another sad fact about them is that 90% of the time, their parents force them into it. The guy at the pageant is not a creeper which, for some reason, everyone seems to think. His daughter is in the pageant, and he was not excited to be there in the slightest. But he went to support her even though they make him miserable. He literally put in earplugs to tune out the pageant and he could tell that Richard was a 1st-time dad there because he didn't bring earplugs/ was initially happy and smiling. That is why he was stoked about the family, essentially making a mockery of the pageant by dancing and running around. It was the 1st exciting thing he had witnessed at any of the pageants he'd been forced to go to. By the way he dressed, he appeared like he would rather be at a concert in a mosh pit, than watching children be judged on their looks. And I would agree, mosh pits are so much fun and way more accepting than the world of Pageantry. Either the mother figure of the child was backstage helping her get ready or the mom couldn't take her and he had to fill in. But he tried to distance himself as much as possible by just being in the audience.
