@@erin1917 actually from a movie making perspective its a really good movie. theres a ton of hints, foreshadowing and symbolism about the plot. basically every shot reveals something about the characters. set design and cinematography are really high quality, acting was pretty good too. the shock factor thing also has two sides to it: on one hand people are pretending to be shocked (in the words of the director) because this is how we're supposed to react to seeing those things, on the other hand it is surprising based on how the movie is set up. you think it'll be one thing and it turns out to be something different. for most 'normal' audiences, it is more on the disturbing side because they expected a cute rom com.

TO THE GIRL WITH THE BOYFRIEND: Your partner is supposed to listen to you and respect you. The engagement itself shows how little he does for you and is indicative of what he will be like when y'all are married. Anyone can be nice and sweet at good times, but it matters more how they act in the not so good times. Also I have been in a relationship where I felt like I couldn't talk to anyone about it, and once I did I realized how shitty the relationship was and left. How the guy is treating you is way below the bare minimum. Talk to someone in your life and make a game plan with them to leave your fiance. With that last secret, those are major red flags, and while not being in love is a conoletely valid reason by itself, this person is also likely to become more aggressive and abusive in the future. It's best to leave now to protect yourself. They said the bf was nice a lot of the time, but that is literally a part of the cycle of abuse, they try to be nice to get you to stay. 100% agree as someone who is married to someone emotionally abusive (currently separated). the niceness isn't enough. and it gets worse in marriage. bypassing your needs and yelling at you when you cry, my heart hurts hearing that. he absolutely should have honored you in your engagement moment. my husband was also a really "nice" guy, most would say "service-oriented" but when it came to who i was as a person, he was easily dismissive of my feelings and innermost desires/needs. he also made me feel like i should be grateful for the bare minimum. let me assure you, you are not asking for too much. your feelings are valid and deserve to be listened to. you deserve respect and care, someone who values all of who you are. i'm sorry you've gone through this. if you don't already have one, build a support system of friends/family/therapist, and leave. it'll be hard but it will be freeing.

For the girl with the chronic illness - from someone with a chronic illness 6 years ago, I was 21 and I had my first big flare-up. It took 4 years for my diagnosis and for that time (and some time after that), I felt exactly they way you described it. I was so lost and nothing ever worked in my favour. I felt like a burden and I couldn't imagine how my life could ever become better. Chronic illness just picks at you, until you feel like there is nothing left. You asked how to get back on the wagon - this is my advice: - Cling on to every shred of happiness you can find. A ray of sunshine warming your face, slowly watching a plant grow, drinking a cold glass of apple a juice, the smell of the rain. Whatever you can find and keep it in your mind like a treasure. Learn to find joy in the small things, so you still have something when everything else sucks. - Be patient with yourself and don't push the limits of what your body can do. Give yourself the rest you need and deserve. Our bodies just don't work like everybody else's and however shitty that is, we can't change that fact. - I could never have survived without art. Writing random thoughts or planing a 12 book fantasy series, painting just to enjoy colour, singing your heart out - whatever, just create and remember that you have worth beyond your physical abilities. - Don't give up and have hope that your life can get better. I am just one person on the internet, but I didn't think, I'd get to see my 22nd birthday. I'm nearly 28. I never thought I could achieve anything ever again, but I just got my bachelor's degree and I passed with amazing grades. I thought my body was too broken to ever contribute anything useful or worth while. Now I'm a teacher. I'm still chronically ill, I don't remember if I ever had a day without chronic pain, but I can find joy in the tiniest places, I can be kind and I can live an incredibly happy life.

To the girl with the abusive fiancé: If he has no problem screaming at you (when you`re already crying) it`s only a matter of time until he hits the wall or throws something in anger and after that he`ll start hitting you eventually. But always be sorry afterwards and may even buy you flowers as an apology. Don`t spiral down that toxic relationship. It´s your first relationship and I need to tell you: that stuff you see on instagram, boyfriends giving their girlfriends flowers, building some shit for them and just generally knowing them (not taking pictures of an intimite proposal and posting about it) exists! My first boyfriend wrote me 12 love letters over the time of a year that, put all together, spelled "I love you" (in my language the letters add up). There are actually men like this out there and you shouldn`t settle for a guy who you don`t even want to touch anymore. It would also be unfair to him if you went on with the relationship, since you don`t have feelings anymore. All the best luck!
@mimthyss9 ай бұрын
Exactly, I couldn't have put this better myself. I really hope whoever submitted that one sees all these comments and takes action on it. It's always a red flag when you feel you have to justify your partner being a decent person because "but they're usually so nice!" (..After explaining all the ways they clearly are *not* nice). Because nice people - let alone partners, fiancés! - don't SCREAM at someone especially when they're already crying & have past trauma with that from the sounds of what they wrote. Nice people don't ignore and disrespect your wishes and boundaries such as with the proposal, and then dismiss how this upset you when you try to bring it up. Nice people don't make you feel scared about talking things through openly. He is not a nice person because he does some nice things sometimes, you have to be holistic and accept that they are in fact not a good person to be in a relationship with and you need to leave for everyone's sake. The sooner the better as this means the sooner your healing journey begins and you can go on to find a genuinely nice guy who never screams, listens to what you ask and follows through, respects you, and who you enjoy being touched by and feel mutual love for.

Dear person who wrote the last advice (about her and her fiance). It hurt me in my gut when I heard that cause I KNOW that feeling and had it with my ex boyfriend, also my first. My boyfriend seemingly sounds similar to how you described your fiance and let me tell you to TRUST YOUR GUT and you are definitely not over reacting. Your feelings of hurt or hesitation is due to how he's hurting you. You don't want that feeling when you're around him to be there, and only get stronger, for the rest of your life. To the girl with the chronic illness who feels like she's failing: I have a youtuber I watch who read a book once and goes by the mantra that every day she can get 1% better or 1% worse, so every day she tries to do something that will make her feel like she's gotten 1% better. It sounds like there's a lot of areas that are a cause for concern, so I agree with Dylan that you should figure out your goals first! Do you want to stay in your town? Do you want to finish school? Is your focus right now just any job that will get you by, or are you adamant about finding something you're truly interested in? Are you managing your health issues as best as you possibly can, or is there room for improvement? Once you have your goals, figure out what couple of steps you could take to move 1% forward in that direction. I don't have a chronic illness, but I have mental illnesses and I missed like 6 or 7 weeks of class last semester because I got VIOLENTLY ill. This mantra really helped me in starting to put myself back together both physically and mentally afterwards.

The names used in the hunger games actually have deeper meanings, and hidden messages. Casca was one of the assassins of Julius Caesar (Panem and more importantly the concept of the hunger games are heavily inspired by Rome’s culture of fights to the death). Highbottom is a play on his drug addiction problems. In the novel and the movie, the character is credited with the creation of the games and so he has become addicted to morphling, a drug that helps him deal with the burden of having the blood of all the children that is on his hands every year. Bottom suggests he has hit the rock bottom, while on drugs - hence the name Highbottom. All the other names also have very interesting meaning. Google what Lucy Grey refers to, it’s really poetic.

For the last person: (this is just opinions, u can do whatever you want) BUT. If your body is telling you something, you should listen to it. If you don’t want to touch him, or feel comfortable talking to him, it’s a sign that you might not feel comfortable around him, it’s not your fault for feeling any specific way. If you don’t feel you can be honest around him, show emotions around him, or set boundaries around him, I would suggest rethinking the relationship. I hope you feel more comfortable with yourself and get through it! :)
@shadowpanda37489 ай бұрын
That last person who needed advice needs to tell their partner how they feel. And if he reacts badly, they need to leave. It seems like despite the relationship apparently being good overall, he repeatedly disrespects OP and their needs. Especially if OP doesn’t really love him anymore; it’s hard to bring that fire back and sometimes it’s not worth it to stay. I would hope that he reacts well to OP’s feelings and they can work it out and stay together 😅

*not a recommendation* but I truly believe that Saltburn is a movie dylan would enjoy. I think the trailer really does a good job at misdirection what the movie is about so I think the plot twists in the movie would be great for him
@JazMegan9 ай бұрын
I actually went through the exact same thing the last person described. I went through years of not wanting to be intimate with my partner anymore because of how he treat me in the past even when he was treating me better, because the damage had already been done. However, this past year I’ve given my whole mentality in trying to basically give our marriage my all with trying to move on from the past and recognise how much he’s worked on himself. Believe it or not, We’re the best we’ve ever been together now! so it really can change but communication really is everything! If I didn’t communicate everything that I needed to get off my chest through all the hurt or discomfort he had caused and how I’d never put up with that again it wouldn’t have changed.

for the last person who asked for advice, i think it’s great that you’re able to understand your communication skills aren’t the best. however, there is something to be said about how you feel when it comes to communicating with someone. if you see that there’s no progress or change whenever you communicate with your s/o or you feel scared to communicate, then i think that might need some evaluation to your relationship as a whole rather than just you. there’s a lot to be said when it comes to saying goodbye to your first relationship and i’m not saying you should (because i don’t know you or your relationship), but the amount of time you guys have been together shouldn’t be a big factor when it comes to your happiness and mental clarity. whatever is happening right now with this person is what’s important to evaluate. wishing you all the best

Dylan's out-of-pocket guessing at the twists in the Saltburn trailer had me cackling. "Is that a dinosaur? Do they go back in time?" "He's a hybrid of some sort, he's the Deer King?" For the relationship thing at the end, when you start to have doubts, to the point where you don't even want to touch them, it's best to usually end it. Sometimes you can work through it, but not if the other person is trying to gaslight you into being appreciative of them doing the bare minimum. You have to ask yourself do you believe they are a relationship worth fighting for? Or are you compromising to the point where you are losing yourself completely? Especially, if he can't even respect you enough to listen to your main wish of wanting the proposal to be more intimate. He could have just set up a camera to film it and then taken screenshots from the video if he wanted the moment captured that badly. Also, he didn't even allow you to tell your parents first. The fact that your parents don't approve of him as well. Yes, sometimes parents can be overly invested in who their children date, but in this case from all you mentioned, I think that they are right in not approving of him. What parent would love seeing their child be screamed at because they cried over something? Just pretend that you are a parent, would you approve if your own child was going through what you currently are going through. They are not treating you like an equal in that relationship and that is what you truly deserve💙🤗

The last person: The part that sticks out to me is that it’s their first relationship. I know it’s not always a bad thing to stay “forever” with your first love but a lack of different experiences may make you feel like he’s sweet majority of the time (it could be for manipulation). So, if the bad behaviour/actions of your s/o have become noticeable to you, it means it’s gone above the “they’re also human” understanding level. Idk about the rekindling the relationship part since the partner seems to think the poster should be “appreciative” of their efforts which should be a major turn-off. Also, the post did not have enough “sweet” moments so i can’t really be sure whether it was genuine or not. But hey, i’m just a keyboard warrior 💁🏻♀️

To the last person asking for advice, I just got out of a 4 year long relationship where we dated on and off. It was extremely abusive and toxic. Unfortunately most of my relationships have been that way. Based on your own description, I heavily suggest to get out of that relationship. Actions speak louder than words and him claiming to be trying but showing no improvement with his anger reads as a man trying to hold off his more abusive tendencies until you are trapped in a marriage with him. If you do not find yourself attracted to him anymore, emotionally or physically, I suggest breaking up. Theres no rule that says you can't get back together if the spark returns. If you are really dead set on staying together, you should at the very least get couples therapy. It seems neither of you are good at handling your emotions or communicating with each other which is a very common human experience. The only way things are going to get better (in this type of situation) is with professional help.

I was with my ex for two years and we fought a lot. We thought that spark would come back but it never rlly did. I was also honestly scared of him. Like this girl, he was sweet but also didn’t rlly listen to what I wanted or get angry easily. If he’s yelling at her when she’s crying who knows what he’ll do when they’re married. I would tell her to get the hell out cause that can turn physically abusive very quickly, and since it’s her first relationship she can’t tell too much from right and wrong. He might try and gaslight her or threaten her if she told anyone. Playing the field a bit like Dylan said is good, knowing what works and what doesn’t work for u is the best way to find your SO
