i actually like the part where Robocop stayed with the drug kingpin kid. It really shows you that Robocop is Alex Murphy and not the machine. He knew that kid was one of the bad guys and even helped dismember him, but Robocop knew at the end of the day hes just a kid. And kids that are bad are a product of how theyre being lead. It shows just how compassionate and forgiving of a MAN Robocop is. VERY VERY important in my opinion in the narrative.
@rossmorton70024 жыл бұрын
Absolutely right, Robocop as built by OCP wouldn't have known how (or even thought to) comfort anyone. It shows clear character progression from the "I will notify a rape crisis center" line from the first movie.

So, parts of this film was made in Houston, TX. They allowed us to watch them as they made the film back in 1989. The scene with Robocop and Cain fighting in the OCP building was actually filmed inside George R Brown Convention Center in Downtown Houston TX. The exterior of the OCP building is actually The Wortham Center in Houston's downtown theatre district.

If your ever wondering why about shooting robocop in the mouth to kill him, the movie designer states the his head is fully mechanical with an armored brain case and his face is just skin stretched over a mechanical skeleton. This also explains his very wild and weird facial expression sometime
@Momon1433 жыл бұрын
Well, in the scene where he's just a torso and freaking out, the reason his expressions are weird is because that actually was a 100% animatronic Peter Weller.

The first one really set the bar high though. Let's be honest. This one probably did the only thing that really can be done in a sequel. It advanced his character (shown by the fact that he lied to his wife, because he thought she'd have a better life if she thought he was just dead, and the scene between him and the kid toward the end, showing that his human compassion was still there and was still winning out over the machine, despite the attempted reprogramming) and put him in a situation where he 'meets his match' against another robotic enemy.

While the kid is an ass hat, i do like how Murphy shows him sympathy and the kid becomes sort of a catalyst for him regaining more of his humanity due to Murphys memory of his son.
@nowwithattitude46853 жыл бұрын
Him staying with the kid was a scene with so many layers. A “machine” who showed more humanity than others in this film, a kid who, stayed away from drugs and alcohol but was extremely violent, was led down the wrong path by a man named “Cain”…. Come on- its all right there. Villians name has heavy symbolism and represents a being who knows nothing but destruction and claims himself a god.

The first movie is WAAAAAAYYYYYY better than this one, but this one is still entertaining though. My only truly big gripe about this film is the changes they made to the old man and Jones. Jones is supposed to be smarter than he is portrayed in this movie and the old man .... damn they did him dirty in this. Making the old man a villain just feels wrong. And you're right about the first film having better villains, you have that perfect holy trinity of villainy with Clarence Boddicker and his cronies as the spiritual villains, E.D. 209 as the physical villain, and Dick Jones as the intellectual villain. RoboCop 2 has Cain/RoboCop 2, and then they try and give Hobbs a sorrowful death that .... does not work, Angie gets summarily executed by RoboCain, then you have Fex, who is too crazy to be interesting. And again the Old man's about face to evildom feels as forced as the humor.

The original music was way better, yes. It was majestic, serious and a bit electronic to symbolize the robotic theme of that movie. This new music has more of a lighthearted cheerful style making the action scenes almost comedic despite the violence. It goes along nice with the goofy programmed RoboCop midway through the movie though.

@theprowler184 жыл бұрын
Great react. I feel it's evident why this one flat out failed to measure up to the classic yet timely original. It is so outlandishly cartoonish and over the top that it lacks the grounded grit and scathing sharp wit of the original film's writer/director. It is very much different from the first film (more like an edgy, violent comic book film ironically enough) but doesn't bring much new to the table and kind of negates Murphy's growth in the original film as well as outright drop sub plots that are very interesting to explore but fails to build on it meaningfully by the time the big VFX showdown happens. To me, it has its moments and provides some quality shootouts but isn't quite as satisfying or entertaining consistently as the first film.

Funny I have seen this movie 20+ times and I sometimes stumble over that No Directives found thing but only now as you said not even Directive IV it finally clicked - that means also that his 3 Prime Directives are deleted too, ergo he can even shoot the kid. In theory of course as Murphy wouldn't do this but he no longer is forced to follow cop rules. So if ever he wanted to kill himself he could, either by suicide or by going on a violent rampage that would force the city to destroy him. Funny I only wanted to write two lines, sorry! :D

Robocop 2 is a science fiction action movie that has greater action scenes. Robocop 2 is a pretty good sequel. The reason why I say the movie isn’t great because the soundtrack isn’t great, and the worst flaw is the juggernaut villain that is Robocain is only in 2 action scenes. A huge waste of a amazing villain since most of the movie Cain is a human, and Robocain finally appears after the movie is more than 65 percent over.
