The reason why Kramer is not in this episode is that at the time his character was supposed to be a shut-in who never left the apartment. Eventually, as Michael Richards took more control over the character this changed and he became the Kramer we know and love. Also if you are doing The Contest you should The Outing as well.

@ImNotJoshBoltz4 ай бұрын
@@felipeaguena5289a lot of that was that he was so physical with his performance that it was annoying to him to have to keep doing it over and over. All that said though I don’t disagree with you, watching the bloopers with him can get really uncomfortable. Julia especially bore the brunt of it because even though her and Jerry broke about the same amount he can’t really get too angry at Jerry since it was his show. It's the greatest TV Sitcom ever, hands down. This is the episode I was all in once I saw it back in the early 90s. The idea of writing an entire episode where all you see is the 3 of them wait for a table in a Chinese Restaurant and pull it off is genius. I was hooked by this point. The dialogue is so good. Can you imagine pitching that idea to NBC!!?

Thats exactly why I like Seinfeld, it was just like watching a miniature play, just one scene and the characters stuck in it having to deal with it, not one hundred scene changes like your average sitcom would have. It didnt do this all the time but it did focus on one scene for a length of time in many episodes even if not the entire episode, especially in the early years. And thats cos it wasnt written by industry people it was written by Larry David and Jerry who were very much outsiders with no experience of show formula so it was fresh.

Some BTS Trivia: This episode and the episode you said you're watching next (The Contest) were hated by the network, and they thought it was a sign that Larry and Jerry were losing it. They fought hard against this one, saying "There's gotta be at least a B Plot somewhere else, you can't expect an audience to stick with one scene for twenty minutes." And in regards to The Contest, they absolutely balked at having an entire episode center around the topic of masturbation. But they let both episodes through with, essentially, a "Hey, it's your funeral" mentality, expecting to be given a reason to cancel the show once it aired. This episode was one of the most talked about episodes of any sitcom at the time, and shaped the humor of the show moving forward. The Contest is still considered not just one of the best of the show, but best sitcom episodes ever. Just goes to show how little the suits know sometimes lol. And they admit as much in the BTS videos about these two episodes.

Starting with season 2 is perfectly fine I think. In season 1 they were still searching. In season 2 they found their form and it became what it's known for. So, season 2 up until Larry David left the show, (end of season 6 I think), that's where the gold is.

You definitely dont have to start at the beginning with Seinfeld. The pacing was much slower the first couple of seasons. I wanna say halfway through season 3 is when they picked it up and the show got better. But Seinfeld is like learning a new language. Didn't start watching till '13. I grew up watching the Cosby show, Living Single, Martin, TGIF, Spin City. But I learned why Seinfeld is considered the best.

Like all older comedy shows, it helps if you lived during the time period covered. Some of the references have been lost to time now but everyone then would have gotten the joke. Also, for future reference, Jerry and Elaine's characters were formerly a couple, now just friends.

It got to a point that one really would try to catch the episode when they came out, because EVERYone at work the next day was talking about it. It's hard to imagine today, but back in the day when The Contest came out it was really risqué for a show to talk about that subject matter.
