Ah Selena, she was going to be the biggest star in the music industry, fashion industry, and film industry. She fought for everything she had all the way down to the man she loved. Her husband, Chris, wrote a book titled "To Selena with Love" talking about their love story and the reality of their marriage. All these years later he still loves her and misses her every day. Fun fact, the scene in the living room when he's auditioning, the closeup on his hands were the real Chris Perez's hands. The scene when Selena went to Chris's hotel room telling him they should get married at that moment really happened. Her own father didn't know that's how the elope idea went about he thought it was Chris's idea the whole time but when he saw the scene being filmed he asked the director who told them this and he said "We spoke to Chris." It was one of the few stories Chris was willing to share at the time because losing Selena made him so protective of his memories of her and he didn't want to contribute as much to the story, but he did become friends with Jon Seda, who played him, and they are still friends to this day. Jennifer Lopez learned about Selena and Chris's relationship through Jon because she wanted to respect Chris's boundaries because she didn't want to cause him more pain by sitting in front of him dressed and looking like Selena to ask him questions about her. Also Chris still has the truck Selena gave him for their first wedding anniversary. Selena was and is still is so loved. In Corpus Christi there are a lot of murals of her on the sides of buildings. Her family has a museum dedicated to her that has her clothes, toys from when she was a kid, and even her car.

To this day I can’t listen to “Dreaming of You” without sobbing. Selena was one of the most beautiful souls on this earth and she was taken far too soon. I feel so much for Chris. He lost his soulmate. Also the dad’s speech about needing to be more Mexican than Mexicans and more American than Americans is so true. Growing up I was made fun of for speaking Spanish. So I only learned English but lost my Spanish. Then as an adult I’m teased by family for not speaking so great in Spanish. It’s tough for sure.

The ending of this movie always hits me so hard, and makes me break down in tears. Even watching you react to it had me in tears! But yes, this was based on a true story of her life. In early 1995, Selena's family discovered that Saldívar had been embezzling money from both the fan club and boutiques, which led to her firing in the first week of March.[On the morning of March 31, Selena agreed to meet Saldívar at a Days Inn motel in Corpus Christi to retrieve financial records Saldívar had been refusing to turn over. Saldívar delayed the handover by claiming she had been raped in Mexico. Selena drove Saldívar to a local hospital, where they were told that the gynecological exam was to be done elsewhere, because the assault had allegedly happened in another country. They returned to the motel, where Selena once more demanded the records. Saldívar then took a .38 Taurus Model 85 revolver from her purse and pointed it at the singer. Selena tried to flee, but Saldívar shot her once in the back, severing an artery. Critically wounded, Selena ran towards the lobby for help with Saldívar in pursuit calling her a "bitch". Selena collapsed on the floor as the clerk called 911. She later died in a hospital from blood loss at 1:05 pm.😢

Interesting Facts: in the state of Texas on April 16th, there's a holiday called Selena Day. Selena's family created a museum dedicated to her legacy, which is mostly run by Suzette. Abraham still hates Chris & has in the past actively tried to prevent Chris from speaking about Selena. Yolanda Salvador will be eligible for parole in 2025

Selena was going to be somebody! She had it all! She had the voice, she had the looks, she had the moves and she had the charm! Chris blamed himself for what happened even though it wasn't his fault. In case you don't know, Jennifer Lopez isn't singing at all! She was lip syncing to Selena Another thing that was sad though was that Selena never got to sing her English song's live. She was murdered before she even had the chance.

I was 14 when Selena died. She had so much promise... she had JUST crossed over to the American scene, shortly before she died. I'm pretty sure her actual English-language album hadn't even been released, at that time. It was released posthumously, a couple months later. I had a piece of her clothing line, when I was younger, unfortunately, it was lost across several moves. She was... SO loved by the Latin community, and broke down barriers for women in Tejano music, traditionally considered a male-dominated genre. She was known as the "Queen of Tejano." Had she continued living, she would've taken the world. She was SO talented, and SO bright, and SO beautiful in so many ways... she'd have dominated in the fashion and music world. The world became a little dimmer with her loss. I tried so hard not to cry, when I met Edward James Olmos (who played her dad, in this movie), but I did end up misting, some, when we talked about the "Selena" movie, and the importance of representation of our people. She was a cultural icon, and the we all were robbed of her. Thank you for reacting to "Selena."

Even if you don't understand Spanish, her performances are still worth checking out. She had unbelievable charisma, stage presence, confidence, and talent. She was going to be HUGE. She was only 23 and she had already won a Grammy, had multiple nominations, and was called the Queen of Tejano music. Her dream of crossing over into the American pop scene was finally coming true. She was planning on opening boutiques in Mexico and LA. She had so much promise. 😢

I’m one of those people who for a long while I didn’t know she died, yet alone was murdered. I found out maybe 3-4 years ago. Her death happened before I was born, and as a child I kept hearing her music and seeing her picture so I just assumed she’s alive and still being a musician, so I fully understand the shell shock of finding out what happened and *HOW* it happened. That’s so unfortunate because she truly seemed like a beautiful person inside and out- like what a real princess is made of.

I was 4 when Selena passed away, so I didn't know who she was until I got older. I first heard her music in Spanish classes at the Middlebury Spanish Language School. Been a fan ever since. She had a significant impact on the music industry. She is often credited for bringing Tejano (Texas-Mexican) music into the mainstream market. I can imagine Selena would have been high up in the music industry if she were still alive today. At the 63rd Grammy Awards, Selena Quintanilla Perez received a posthumous Life Achievement Award. How her life ended is so sad and senseless because I think about her and wonder what she could have done if she were still here. Selena was really destined for stardom. She could've been as big as Lady Gaga, Madonna, or Beyoncé. Selena paved the way for many of our artists today to get to where they are. I would definitely go to her concerts if she were still here today. Selena was taken way too soon, so young. No hay nadie como Selena. ¡La reina de la música tejana! Que sigas descansando en paz, Selena. 💜

I had forgotten about this incredible movie. When I saw that you reacted I knew it was going to be a tear jerker for both of us. I finally was able to watch and I am so glad that you loved this film. Thank you for reminding me about it and Selena again because she was taken from the world far too soon and we should absolutely keep her music alive in her honour.

Hey Nick I'm glad you saw the amazing Selena movie. It made me cry too when I first saw it. There's a freestyle/dance artist named Buffy who released a beautiful song for Selena called "I Miss You" which I think you would love. Great reaction as always! I hope you can also react to "Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds" which is the 3rd highest grossing film in South Korean cinema history.

It's nice to see u react to this film, Nick. Just a couple of bits of trivia for u, since I grew up watching this film. 1. This film makes Selena's Dad, Abraham look WAY better than he was in real life. He intervened a lot with the script. He actually lobbied to have the scene where Selena and Chris elope cut because he thought it'd influence other couples to run away and get married. 2. The bus scene where Abraham fires Chris was actually much worse in real life. He actually called Chris "A cancer in my family." 3. The scene where Selena let's the kids onstage is actually true. There's video on KZbin of her letting kids dance during her show, she always encouraged it. 4. Even though the film gives off the impression Abraham didn't want Chris to be with Selena, because he thought it'd "mess up his family." Selena's sister Suzy was already married and had kids, while Chris and Selena were together. The reason Abraham didn't want Selena and Chris together was merely because he thought her image would be tarnished by being with a heavy metal guitarist. It was never about being trying to keep his family together, he just thought it'd effect her image.

Thanks for your reaction, I think the movie captured the way her life was abruptly cut short, for her fans, perhaps even her family everthign that happened between Selena and Yolanda seems to this day to be very private, Selena trusting her, Yolanda acting behind her back, Cris not trusting Yolanda and trying to keep Selena away from Yolanda. All that happened on a matter of months, it eloquently shows a bit of that but in the end is a celebration of Selena's life and legacy. Her success story in music indistry and a portrayal of her charisma, starpower and unique persona she was.

I remember seeing this movie when I was around 10 and I loved it so much I asked my mom to buy me Selena's CD. I do not speak Spanish but I would sing along using the lyrics in the CD booklet and after awhile I didn't need the lyrics anymore. Selena's legacy lives on but there is always the question of what could've been. And I still say this is Jennifer Lopez best acting performance.
