At one point in the 90s, Shania, Alanis Morissette, and Celine Dion were all Canadian women at top of charts and winning music awards. Each had their own different style of music but all are worth a deep dive into their songs.

During 'PEAK Shania" you would hear her music EVERYWHERE. On any format of radio, at any bar/club--- from serious line-dancing country bars (gay and straight)...to the hippest, young House-music scene (gay or straight)! With her gorgeous looks, an MTV goddess, and plastered over magazine covers worldwide....you couldn't escape the appeal of Shania Twain!

Shania is so talented! I have so much respect for her, knowing everything she's been through in her personal life. My favorite videos here are "Man! I Feel Like a Woman" & "That Don't Impress Me Much", but because I'm such a romantic, my favorite song is "You're Still the One".

She came into the scene when there still weren't many women in county, and she didn't listen to any of nonsense that was thrown at her. Truly iconic.
@tierneybeckett
@tierneybeckett Жыл бұрын
The nonsense thrown at Shania was that she was more daring when it came to being sexy. Which I thought was ridiculous even at the time, but it's also why she was more successful in crossing over to the pop charts. There were, however, a ton of women in country at the time, a lot of them still considered icons. Trisha Yearwood, Faith Hill, Martina McBride, Tanya Tucker, Patty Loveless, Kathy Mattea, Reba McEntire, Terri Clark, Alison Krauss, Lorrie Morgan, KT Oslin, Mary Chapin Carpenter, The Judds. Just to name a few. The 80s and 90s were a fantastic time for women in country music.

I loved this reaction! It’s fun to see new Shania fans joining the fandom, especially since a lot of us grew up with her music. I would definitely like to see reactions to -If You’re Not In It for Love (I’m Outta Here!) in literally any format -I’m Gonna Getcha Good! (Red Version) -Forever and For Always (Red or Green Version) -Ka-Ching! (Red Version) -Thank You Baby! (Red Version) -When You Kiss Me Most of that list is from her 2002 album “Up!”, which is still my personal favorite! Up! and it’s singles/videos often get overlooked because of how massive and well-remembered Come On Over and even The Woman In Me were, but Up! is still her third diamond certified album, and it is full of AWESOME songs. Also for context, the “red vs green versions” are pop/rock vs country, respectively. If you’re reacting to videos, red version always seems to pair better with the videos (although FAFF is excellent in both versions).

Fun fact!! Shania actually wrote the ballad "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know" for Britney Spears!! Also, if you liked the muted vocal/guitar part in the bridge, you should check out "One Last Time" by Swedish soul singer Agnes. Her screams of emotional agony in the bridge get distorted into a haunting synth guitar solo that just gives you chills.

Fun reactions! You might already know this, but the music video for 1999's "Man, I Feel Like a Woman" is paying tribute to (poking a little fun at) Robert Palmer's music video for his 1986 No. 1 pop hit "Addicted to Love," in which he has beautiful made-up-to-look-alike female models fake-playing the guitars and drums and keyboard, too. ... You may also enjoy Shania's No. 4 pop ballad called "From This Moment On." As beautiful as she has looked in her other videos before and after, she just might look her most stunning in this video. And "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?" is another fun country song from her breakthrough album "The Woman in Me."

The reason her music sounds like a mix of genres is because she was married to her music producer back then, Mutt Lange. He's a well-known rock producer and if you've heard Pour Some Sugar On Me by Def Leppard, which he produced, you'll recognize the clap-thump parts in Any Man Of Mine. His rock influence on her music is what made her stand out in the country music scene, on top of her unbelievable beauty.

Shania's been through so much, its amazing to me how she kept her cool for so long. She and her family grew up very poor. She was physically and sexually abused by her stepfather, then she lost both her stepfather and her mom in a car accident. She contracted Lymes disease and spasmodic dysphonia, and she had to learn how to talk and how to sing again. Then her husband cheated on her with her best friend. She did come out saying that she was depressed and angry after her latest album was released due to her husband's and friend's betrayal, but thankfully she's in a much happier marriage now and she's at peace with everything!

I had no idea there were different ones besides the Canadian versions. Canadian cultural preferences will seamlessly transfer to the US, but I suppose, for Europe it makes sense to tweak them a little. I can see Canadian country music, for instance, being altered for the European market.

Her album Up! was made in three different versions, red, blue and green. USA got 2-disc set with Red and green discs, and most of the rest of the world with red and blue discs. Red has pop versions of the songs, green has country versions and blue Bollywood style versions.

I first knew of her when she appeared on the international scene with "that don't impress me much". The song, the music and the looks was really far from my usual tastes. Of course i was impressed with her voice and looks (etc) but that didn't go beyond that. The problem was the lyrics and the video that accompanied it. So much unapologetic feminity, humour, individuality... Just for that i began to respect her. Then came so many other songs like the "Man! I Feel Like A Woman!" which only supported my view And finally i heard about her life. A strong intelligent woman who doesn't mind to fight for what she values no matter if it seem desperate. I am a fan.

Something many Americans (and you) might not know about, are that several of Shania's singles were released internationally as Pop/Rock versions instead of their original country versions. They used the same exact music videos for both, but the Pop/Rock versions are probably the reason why she was able to gain international success. "That Don't Impress Me Much" was one such single, and I'd highly recommend you reacting to its international version as you might actually enjoy it even moreso. Unfortunately (for whatever reason), the international version on her channel was removed or privated a while back, so here's an unofficial upload until they fix it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4DCiJanZqdkZtk Also just a heads up, if you ever get around to reacting to Shania's music videos from her album "Up!", you'll notice that some of her music videos are marked as Green version, Red version, or Blue version in their KZbin video titles. Green is the Country version, Red is the International Pop/Rock version, and Blue is an Indian version that came as an exclusive extra CD for the album depending on your market.

As a straight Canadian male, yup ya gotta appreciate a woman who puts themselves so well together ( natural or glam ), just express their feminine selves. Also, though straight. I wish I could pull off ( no pun! Haha! ) some looks that have classical masculine traits better myself. No shame in admiring genetics, or taste even from the guys side of things.
