@carterchamberlain4901

I get why it's frustrating, but almost everything Q'ira does at the end is to PROTECT Han. She knows Maul is out there and will come after them if she just kills Dryden and leaves. She doesn't let Han kill Dryden because she doesn't want him to be a target for Maul. She stays so she can spin the story and blame it all on Beckett. I'm sure she also wants the power to a degree but mostly I see it as a tragic sacrifice on her part.

It’s imperfect but I give Solo a solid “B”. I kind of liked how it was a step back from the galaxy spanning conflict between good and evil and it was just a simple space western/crime story. I thought Alden Ehrenreich deserves more credit than some fans have given him for his performance as young Han, Donald Glover nailed Lando, the action was pretty stellar (especially the trench warfare scene and the Kessel Run) and I like how the start of a life long friendship between Chewie and Han played out. It’s not Rogue One but it’s definitely a better Star Wars film than some of Disney’s other attempts

People slight Alden because they say his version of Han wasn't some broody cool loner, but (1), as a prequel we'd expect to see a young Han as initially different to the guy in ANH; (2), this was supposed to be part one of a Han Solo trilogy of movies, and we see him taking those steps throughout this movie to becoming a darker and more closed off person by the end courtesy of Beckett and Kira's betrayals; and (3), Han in ANH wasn't that cool edgy loner that people think he is. We're shown, repeatedly, throughout ANH that that cool edgy persona is just a mask. As soon as Ben and Luke are out of the picture he's buzzing with glee at Chewie about how they are supposedly going to save his ass, he completely blows the "boring conversation" in the Death Star, there is his "a princess and a guy like me" moment in the Falcon afterwards, and his kinda soppy "may the Force be with you" to Luke at Yavin, followed by his glorious last minute change of heart. Han Solo has never been a cool edgy loner. He's always been a goofy screw up, and this movie is about him learning to put a mask on it. But it is always a mask, so we really have to see what is under that mask and why the mask exists. And I think this movie does very well at that job.

I freaking love Solo. I understand people felt conflicted about it, since Han died on screen in 2015, and this movie came out 3 years later, less than a year after Last Jedi really did Luke dirty. But to me, as much as I love the prequels, those movies did their own thing, whereas this movie felt like a truer spiritual prequel to A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. It had a lot of love for the original trilogy, and obviously acknowledged the prequels in a big way there at the end. And that shit with Qira... fear is a path to the Dark Side. She hesitated in the beginning because she was afraid, then her worst fears all happened to her. She had a mini Anakin arc, self-fulfilling prophecy. Not to defend her actions, she's easily the most fucked up character in the movie, but she knew first hand that Han flies by the seat of his pants. After doubtlessly seeing a lot of dark shit working for Crimson Dawn, she probably figured she couldn't seriously trust Han "that's a rock" Solo to protect her from the people that would come after her if she went missing, so she went back to them to make sure Han was never pursued. One freaky detail nobody talks about... those scars on Paul Bettany's face were from a lightsaber. He had a fresh one after the first heist failed. Maul said, "we're going to be working more closely" and turns on his lightsaber... Qira ain't climbing no power ladder, she's belly-upping like a good little broken-in lap dog to its abusive master.

Dryden’s knives are called Kyuzo petars, custom made. The edges are energized with a scintillating monomolecular energy chord. That’s what wookieepedia says. Qi’ra just _very_ recently came back in comics. It’s very exciting They did actually allude to Maul’s crime position in clone wars. He starts with his big syndicate team up when he first comes back, then he gets back to it after escaping Sidious. He mentions Crimson Dawn during his hologram conversation with the Pykes, and in the final episodes you see him talking to the syndicate leaders, including Dryden. I think Qi’ra went with Maul because she was afraid of what would happen if she didn’t. Maul would look for answers for why a lead underling is dead. He knows her, and if she’s with Han, that puts Han in Maul’s crosshairs. She did omit him completely from her explantion of what happened

Yes, I was surprised they were going to commit that hard to revealing her fate in a comic, @Jon Mercano . I suppose because the sequel fell through (though she could still be in the Lando tv show) And yes, most concur that she wanted to keep Han safe - although I think she also never wanted to be at the mercy of hidden foes again.

So glad you watched Clone Wars 1st Prime!! It's a hard telling people that are new to Starwars to watch 7 seasons of a 'Kids Show' before watching this movie because of a 30 second cameo at the end. But watching Clone Wars and understanding that Maul is SO MUCH more than just what we saw fall down the shaft at the end of Ep 1 gives this movie a hell of a lot more weight. It got some hate or release and tanked horribly in terms of box office. L3-37, was a mixed bag, an eccentric SW droid for sure but also an analog for a feminist, not to mention the actress that played her had never seen Starwars and thought a droid was a phone. Cramming Han meeting Chewy, Lando, the Kessel Run and getting the Falcon all in to what's maybe a week's time in Universe was a bit much a bit fast for me the 1st time around. All in all though this film's grown on me since the 1st time I watched it. It's a fun shut your brain off and ride the roller coaster kind of time in the SW Universe. The ending hints at the sequel we never got, Han working for Jabba, Kira Working For Maul and more of the glorious Starwars Crime syndicates in live action buuuut no. I hope we get more of in the the future shows but I'll save you the Mando spoilers lol.

To be fair one does not simply run away from Maul. Maul also knew that some bs was going on with her story and that Beckett could not have been working alone. I always felt that Qi'ra left Han to protect him, if she ran off with Han maybe they get away with it but most likely not. Her leaving Han was the only sure way to ensure he suffers no retribution from Maul as she knew she would never be free of Maul and would just drag Han down with her. I definitely loved this movie and the backlash it took because it came after Last Jedi was definitely misplaced agression by supposed star wars fans. That and its development issues with the original directors leaving and many fans saying ‘we know this story. We dont need this’ didnt do it favors. Me personally as someone who knew going in the basics of how Han got the falcon, chewie owing him a life debt, etc, it was nice to see it in live action. Also the little nuggets you see dropped in the movie: 1. Qi’ra using teras kasi which was both a video game for star wars and a anti jedi fighting style. 2. L3’s brain being downloaded into the falcon explaining 3po’s comment years later about the onboard computer being rude. 3. Seeing the spice mines of kessel (aluded to back in ANH) 4. An explanation of making the kessel run in 12 parsecs (since fans always commented that that statement is a measure of distance not time) 5. The Maw and a imperial star destroyer there (a possible hint to old legends stories) 6. Possibly a hint that at one point Han may have actually told this story to leia as she used a variation of the ‘thermal detonator’ ruse on Jabba 7. Lando wearing the helmet he would use years later in Return of the jedi to get into Jabba’s palace. 8. As han is escaping alone from corellia you hear a varation of the Imperial march in a different key making it sound patriotic indicating that in universe the theme we associate with vader is kinda like a national anthem. 7. Further links in this movie is warrick davis’ character is named Weazel and he portrayed the same character on tatooine in phantom menace. The alien with 2 tubes would eventually end up with saw gerrera in rogue one, and Enfys Nest is played by the leader of the flag smashers in falcon and the winter soldier (both involve a falcon? Lol) 8. Hints that even now the seeds of the rebellion are growing. 9. We get to see hints what life was like in the core worlds during the imperial era. Corellia was known for building ships like the falcon and the blockade runner but how did the military industrial complex of the empire change the planet. Clearly if you werent in the military or part of the ship building industry, you were garbage to most people. 10. I agree with most people that Qi’ra (although wanting power) did what she did to protect Han annd herself. He is a vengeful person and wouldnt have stopped until he killed Han for helping to ruin his plans. And unlike Kenobi or Ahsoka, han would be pretty much be dead. 11. Also, at least to me, it explains why in the end of Empire, lando wears ‘Han’s’ clothes. It is because they were originally landos and they been on the falcon all this time. 12. The imperial officer at corellia taking the bribe shows you even more proof that the empire was not as it made itself to be.

@@MrPwng232 This movie wasnt an artistic vision. Disney wanted someone to make a Han Solo movie because of money, not out of respect to the art of telling stories or whatever. And i‘m saying that was a stupid cash-grabbing decision and as a result of that, hurt the movies artistic freedom. Making it about Han limited the movie. It made it even more unnecessary. A movie about someone with less known past events etc. Would have been absolutely more useful for the artists that made that movie

I loved the look of this film Rogue One, Solo, and Mandalorian follow this very feel dirty and gritty look both Rogue One and Mando having the same cinematographer not sure about Solo though. Overall yeah wasn't a big fan liked elements Maul being my personal favourite part of the movie. If you loved the look of Rogue One then you'll love The Mandalorian in style alone which looks even better than Solo and Rogue One. Season 2 has a much wider range of settings and theme's while Season 1 is set more around the western style mostly set around the same location.

I really hate the sequels for their clean shiny Star Trek look. The dirty grittiness of the spin-off movies and The Mandalorian is exactly what Star Wars should look like. This movie however is so shamefully dark and badly lit.

fun little fact, while Ray Park Originally played Darth Maul in Episode 1 Sam Witwer voiced him for the Clone Wars. Since most of the target audience would recognize Sam's voice he got to voice the lines for Maul in this movie.

The Maw is a cluster of black holes and maelstroms, and it also happens to be the location of a secret imperial military research installation where many of the Imperials projects were started, such as both Death Stars, as well as many iterations of SSD's. That's why there's a garrison there, and you can bet your ass that there a few dozen more Star Destroyers where that one came from.

This is a fun movie that can work very well as a stand alone movie. Rogue One is a nice smaller story tied to larger events and Solo contrasts by being able to work on its own, and I love both movies respectively for that.

Merle from the Walking Dead is played by Michael Rooker, Becket is played by Woody Harrelson and i swear that man never ages. i guess both actors look a bit similar though. in regards to Maul, this movie takes place about 5 years after the Clone Wars so i'm sure Maul's involvement in Crimson Dawn will be explored later on. but you will see more Maul content in the future :)

What’s crazy is I’ve never seen anyone review a movie and not like it at the end??? I mean you think one person out of all the movies they get reviewed, you you think one person would say “you know it wasn’t really all that good and I didn’t like it!” Or that it’s not good but it’s not bad either! Just a so so nothing special movie. But nope! every movie is fantastic and they love it! and end of conversation.

Being an old f*ck who grew up reading Star Wars books because there weren't any Star Wars series, video games, etc. I personally wasn't thrilled with the movie. It isn't that the movie is bad, it's that it isn't as good of a story as the Han Solo trilogy, and it doesn't show the character the respect he deserved...

I loved Solo, I'm hoping for a sequel because the hate it got during cinema time was mostly because people where upset about the last jedi and rage quit star wars for a while. Solo was a great movie. A great adventure movie. It doesn't need to be more. I love seeing more of Han's adventures. So yes, fingers crossed for a second movie, or at least a tv show including more Lando and more Qi'ra and Maul. Also Han meeting Jabba the hut and other big bads he somehow keeps pissing off but keeps outwitting/outrunning/out surviving.

The second best SW-Movie made under Disneys' tenure, after Rogue One. The other three are so far away, I can barely even see them anymore. Its not perfect, it has some problems but it still is a lot of fun. Unfortunately, since it flopped badly at the Box-Office, a Sequel is highly unlikely.
