There is an episode of Deep Space Nine called Trials and Tribble-ations where the characters have to travel back in time to the events of this episode. More Klingon shenanigans must be prevented! They actually integrate the DS9 characters into shots from this episode and have them interact with the TOS characters. It's really impressive and well done!

The uniform is called the captain’s casual tunic. It was a way to distinguish Captain Kirk for the rest of the cast. Over the next 30 or 40 years, the shows have tried to do something similar to the other captains to give them something a little more distinguishable from the rest of the cast, the car got to wear that leather jacket thing that he absolutely hated smelled, and Cisco got to occasionally wear the tactical vest, which Picard also wore in the first contact film. It is still a duty uniform.

Romulans are connected to Vulcans by a common ancestor. Not Klingons. A lifetime TOS fan. You got a lot of your points right but that was wrong. Fun watching you both with this. Also, the version you are watching is digitally updated, the intro for the actual first episodes had models used for the exterior shots. Proud to call myself a "Trekkie". There are blooper reels that show the doors not working as well as other mistakes. In Star Trek Deep Space Nine, there is an episode called "Trial and Tribble-ations" ,, the return of tribbles.

So, ST is the 1st show that when fans learned it was canceled after the 2nd season that they started a letter writing campaign that so overwhelmed the studio that they did the 3rd season. Then it was canceled in spite another campaign. But that gave it enough episodes that they could run it in syndication. THAT'S when it REALLY grew. Scifi cons got started in the late 70s. The popularity of Star wars convinced the studio that they could make $$ authentic Star trek and started the movies. Then TNG.

I don't mean to nitpick, because most of the things in your introduction were correct, but saying that Star Trek only became big because of TNG is not really true. Most of its success came after the original series went into syndication. After that, a strong push for another series came about, which was going to be called Star Trek 2. That idea fizzled out, but it led to ST: TMP. And afaik, it was really the box office success of the films, particularly TVH, that made TNG a reality.

Trek got big due to the movies. The Motion Picture was supposed to be the reboot TV series called Phase II. It primed the fan base as a film and led to the other films. Assets from THe Motion Picture later were used in The Next Generation including the theme music. Also the ship design for Discovery is the discarded version of what would have been the Enterprise refit.

A 33" model was produced as a pre-production reference model, and for publicity shots. This model did make it onto TV, though, as "stock footage", part of the intro, and also as a desktop model in one episode. (The production notes say this is about 1:192 - but that scale was based on an original design of only 540' for the Enterprise. The final design had the Enterprise had 947', so this scale is actually 1:344) An 11' model (your 1:4 scaling there (11' = 4*33")) was used for actual production. Only the one model was made, but it was heavily retrofitted once the series was picked up after the pilot to allow internal lighting (instead of having painted on windows).

The model used in the hero shots of the Enterprise was actually 11-feet long, though, they spent $2-million dollars to redo a lot of the effects with CGI, so that model in the new intro was most likely a CGI representation. (I saw it suspended from the ceiling of the National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC. They took it down and are refurbishing it, which is a lot of work, making sure the colors and markings are authentic. I'm not sure, but I think I read they took it down because it was made of wood and was under strain by being suspended from above with wires. I believe they may also be working on internal lighting systems, which is difficult, as they don't want to tear it apart to get at them. So it's still in one of the workrooms as of today, as far as I know.) By the way, this is very enjoyable to watch; and very unusual. I watch several reactors doing Trek, and it's annoying because of the jokes and comments that have nothing to do with the show, but serve to entertain the reactors. i've stopped watching them, so I'll give this channel a try. It's really nice just to see someone who watches to try to understand what's going on without making smart-a** remarks or other unfunny comments. Again, this just popped up in my suggested videos and I didn't know this channel existed. By the way, I saw Star Trek when it aired originally.

The show is set in the 23rd Century, well after the solar system had been thoroughly explored and colonized. The _Enterprise's_ mission was to seek out strange new worlds, new life, new civilizations, throughout the galaxy. There are different versions of what happened behind the scenes with the interracial kiss. NBC executives were worried about the trouble it would cause with affiliates in southern states, so they tried to film an alternate version of the scene without the kiss. The actors were against this, and repeatedly flubbed their lines and did what they could to derail the re-shoot. Eventually they did the scene without the kiss, but it was only in the "dailies" that the director realized that they had done the scene with their eyes crossed. They had no choice but to release the version with the kiss to all the affiliates. The resultant brouhaha was absolute zero. There were no complaints at all. Execs had not understood that the kind of people who care about such things are not the kind of people who watch _Star Trek,_ and fans of the series are better than that. Nichelle Nichols, who played Uhura (RIP) was considering leaving the show at one point. The Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. called her up and talked her out of quitting, because Uhura was such an important role model for black people in America. Though some people would still call it a "cult following," the series went on in syndication for over 25 years, and had spawned an animated series, 4 theatrical movies, several novels, and had millions of fans world wide before _Star Trek: The Next Generation_ premiered.

IRL Triticale (/trɪtɪˈkeɪliː/; × Triticosecale) is a hybrid of wheat (Triticum) and rye (Secale) first bred in laboratories during the late 19th century in Scotland and Germany.[1] Commercially available triticale is almost always a second-generation hybrid, i.e., a cross between two kinds of primary (first-cross) triticales. As a rule, triticale combines the yield potential and grain quality of wheat with the disease and environmental tolerance (including soil conditions) of rye. Only recently[when?] has it been developed into a commercially viable crop. Depending on the cultivar, triticale can more or less resemble either of its parents. It is grown mostly for forage or fodder, although some triticale-based foods can be purchased at health food stores and can be found in some breakfast cereals. When crossing wheat and rye, wheat is used as the female parent and rye as the male parent (pollen donor). The resulting hybrid is sterile and must be treated with colchicine to induce polyploidy and thus the ability to reproduce itself. The primary producers of triticale are Poland, Germany, Belarus, France and Russia. In 2014, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), 17.1 million tons were harvested in 37 countries across the world.[2] The triticale hybrids are all amphidiploid, which means the plant is diploid for two genomes derived from different species. In other words, triticale is an allotetraploid. In earlier years, most work was done on octoploid triticale. Different ploidy levels have been created and evaluated over time. The tetraploids showed little promise, but hexaploid triticale was successful enough to find commercial application.[3]

The enterprises on patrol near the Klingon Federation border. This is a few weeks to a month after the Oregonian treaty that was established in the episode errand of mercy. With a Klingon Federation war lasted all but 32 hours. The cold war between the Federation and There Imperio adversaries continues as both sides continue to build their spheres of influence around the galaxy. A very important planet, rich in natural resources called Shermans planet is right inside the border. An agreement was made that which ever side can best colonize the planet will get the right. Federation scientists developed a new type of grain that can grow on any hostile planet. Space Station K7 is the closest outpost to Sherman’s planet very little of the station is habitable as it’s primarily a manufacturing plant. The enterprise received a priority, one distress signal. Which basically equates to drop everything and come to the rescue. Kirk can only assume that the Klingons had broken the treaty, an attack the station.

Relying just on Shatner's book is not necessarily very accurate. He has a tendency to make himself the center and hero of every event and that is not true. Leonard Nimoy, Nichele Nicoles, James Doohan, George Takei, Walter Koenig and several other cast members have written about the series besides Shatner. Tribbles recur in a bar scene in the original series movie Star Trek 3 The Search for Spock and in an episode of Deep Space 9 "Trials and Tribulations".

introducing an animal into an environment without its natural predictor has dire consequences.
