Overload is still a favourite of mine, and they were all about 15 at the time. Each line up (four of them) brought something different, though the second line up (Keisha, Mutya, Heidi) was probably the most successful. The line ups were Keisha, Mutya, Siobhan Keisha, Mutya, Heidi Keisha, Heidi, Amelle Heidi, Amelle, Jade I liked Siobhan's solo song Twist of Fate, and when the original trio reunited, they did several songs. Check out Caught In A Moment. Many of the slower songs (stronger, follow me home etc) are definitely worthwhile

They had four line-ups, and the first song/video "Overload" (2000) is from the original line-up of Siobhan, Mutya and Keisha, then they were replaced one-by-one until the line-up had no original members left. Heidi is the one who replaced Siobhan in 2001, and is featured in the other three videos. The second line-up is my favorite, as they had the best and most hits. Aside from "Red Dress" and "About You Now", I don't really know any of the third (or fourth) line-up's songs.
@winnied87 Жыл бұрын
Yes, they kinda lost hype as their music became bubblegum pop and the lineup changed too much.
@maritta2504 Жыл бұрын
Personally, I consider Red Dress to be more of a 2.0 song, since it first existed with Mutya (and tbh that's the version I always listen to, because Amelle sounds too croaky for my taste there 😄 but I know many people disagree). Anyway... I think the 6th album (Catfights & Spotlights) was very good, you have to like that kind of 60s/70s retro vibe though. But many good songs on that record (except basically the two songs they released as singles 😂)... You might give it a try! And the 5th album had some very good tunes. Not many, but they were there (Never Gonna Dance Again seems to be a fan favourite too, and I also really like Denial for example, which was also a single). Imo, the 7th album is complete garbage. It has its moments, but overall it's pretty generic stuff that doesn't sound like Sugababes at all.

I also prefer "Stronger" to "Too Lost In You" because of the melody and also how Heidi Range (the blonde one) handled that dramatic transitional moment in the song. Sugababes were that girl band with some darker edge. Definitely not a typical pop sound. This came in later days and then they kinda lost hype.
@e.h.buchmann23 Жыл бұрын
@@winnied87 You're spot on, and that darker edge was why fans of other genres also had a soft spot for them.
@winnied87 Жыл бұрын
@@e.h.buchmann23 Thanks. True. They brought that darker sound out and make it accessible to people, who enjoy popular music. I think, Girls Aloud tried the same approach with their debut single "Sound Of The Underground", which was a successful move, but then the EDM hype has smoothened the edgyness for both groups. Now, the Sugababes are back to their roots, which is cool. However, they seem to be mostly interesting to their older fans. I don't quite seem them getting into the broad spotlight again.

Since you’ve also listened to Girls Aloud, it’s interesting to note that Xenomania - the production team behind all of GA’s hits - also produced several SB hits like Round Round, Hole in the Head, In the Middle and Red Dress. You can certainly hear it in Round Round, can’t you? Brian Higgins is a master. As for the Babes, each of the lineups has something that makes it distinctive. My favorite is lineup 2 (Keisha, Mutya and Heidi).

One of my favorite girl groups in the 00s, but with a lot of internal drama. There are 4 sets of lineups, with the second one shown here in songs 2-4 being the most successful. Overload is certainly unique as it isnt a sound you combine with "girlbands" from the 90s,early 2000s. I consider Sugababes in a league with East 17 (both British and i remember i have already suggested East 17 to you when it comes to British "boybands") They both bring a sound that is pretty far off from what you usually combined with boy and girlbands back then. They basically did theyr own thing,wich didnt make me cringe as a teenager or young adult. I can vibe with some typical boy-girlband sounds too,dont get me wrong. Even if it gets abit too cheesy lol. But i have a line for how much cringyness and cheese i can take haha. But hey,thats how they sold theyr records back then,young girls and boys went bananas in the record stores,so it obviously worked for many other people. I also confess that i bought alot of music in my mid-late teens wich i later on cringe over. I think we all have thoose moments like "what on earth did i listen to back then?! Just because theyr female/male singer looked hot? Come on now!"😂 Well,with Sugababes i never really experienced such a moment,its like they always had this matured,experimental sound (just like East17 who stated: We are not a boyband,we are a *long pause* ..... MANband *everyone is laughing*) ANYWAY,thank you for starting with Overload with miss Siobhán Emma Donaghy in it. Yes,she is the one with the most challenging name to pronounce,she explains it by being of both an English and an Irish heritage (she said once: Irish people tends to have some wild names) Just put some extra weight on her à and you will nail it pretty soon haha. She looks amazing in this video (well,she looks amazing in general,who am i kidding?!) She is actually a founding member of Sugababes,so it was perfect that you started off with Overload. Eventhough i recommended totally different songs,wich i think all has Heidi in them (call me biased haha),i totally forgot to actually recommend this one and other song with Siobhán,Amelle Berrabah or Jade Ewen in them singing. But i think i mentioned that there are YT performances with all the ladies singing together. Jade is the one that stayed with the band the shortest,so might be difficult to find enough videos or live performances with her alongside the other Sugababes. But if you want to sidetrack abit later on,in the spirit of Sugababes,she made it to 5th place in the eurovision song contest in 2009 with: Jade Ewen - It's My Time (United Kingdom) I think she will blow you away with her voice. Jade is both a singer and an actress,and she should have other songs on youtube as well,if my memory serves me right. Too Lost In You,one of the reasons why i loved Heidis entrance into the band so much,as she can sing really DEEP as well as harmonizing with the others in a lighter voice,as well as her solo parts. And seeing them come walking in slow motion like that,lord have mercy and almighty legs for days!😍(Im feeling like PancakeMarshmallowDude watching INXS live at wembley,when Michael felt like dry humping the stage floor)🤣 Round Round is one of theyr biggest hits,i have heard it in several tv serie/movie productions,maybe even some games if im not mistacen. Dont turn your back on me,Heidi!😍On a second thought,i dont mind at all😏😆 Ugly,thats the song i recommend for people i discover have really low self confidence,maybe been through tons of bullying etc. And the feedback is the same,everyone that has watched the video has ended up in tears,and afterwards they went on to add this on every playlist they had,on multiple platforms. A beautiful eye and mindopener of a song. Sometimes "easy lyrics" hits you the hardest! Just a tip for the future,when you come to one of my absolute favourite songs by them called: Sugababes - Stronger. Dont go for theyr official channel upload,as it has taken abit of a toll after YT changed theyr resolution system,it is abit too blurry for reaction channels. But fear not, VIDEO HITS has made a HD version of the music video. Simply search for: SUGABABES - Stronger (2002) and look for the uploader as VIDEO HITS. They uploaded just a few months ago so the video doesnt have too many views yet,but the quality is PERFECT. Also,i can mention as a good alternative if you want the HD video combined with lyrics, Gee.A.2 has made and uploaded a really good alternative. The title is simply: SugaBabes - Stronger (lyrics) official vid - better quality video. Both are very recently uploaded and with barely any views they are hard to find,so just putting them down here as better alternatives for a future reaction.

Entered the UK Singles Chart at #6. Received universal critical acclaim from music critics. *Too Lost in You* | the second single from SB's third album, Three (2003). It's prominently featured in the soundtrack to the film Love Actually and specifically chosen by its director. Entered the UK Singles Chart at #10. To clarify the music video is supposed to show the girls fantasizing about each guy they lock eyes with. *Round Round* | the second single from SB's second album Angels with Dirty Faces (2002). My personal favourite video of theirs (thus far) and up there in terms of SB songs I listen to on repeat. Peaked at #1 on the UK Singles Chart and gold-certified. It's the group's first single to chart in the US, peaking at #7 on the Billboard Dance Singles Sales chart. *Ugly* | the second single from SB's fourth album Taller in More Ways (2005). The song was conceptualized in the midst of reading negative comments about the band members. It's the final single released under SB 2.0, when Mutya left the group in December 2005. Peaked at #3 on the UK Singles Chart.

Sugababes had so many great songs... And I love so many of them. The whole discography is worth listening to, and imo you should also not care that much about the personal drama that went on within the Band, as this would only overshadow the great music they have made throughout the years. But since you are also all about the videos, you might want to react to some of those: *Freak Like Me* (stellar song and interesting video) *Shape* (see above, except that the song is not exactly a fan favourite) *Denial* (imo the most "artsy" video they have done, doesn't really have a story, but very aesthetically pleasing.... And it's also a song I really like) *Change* (not their best song, and some consider the video trashy... But personally, I really like the concept of it 🤷🏼♀️) *No Can Do* (I'm on the fence about that song, but the video has a very.... interesting... 😂... concept) Other great songs with more "basic" videos would be Stronger, Hole in the Head, Caught in a Moment, Run For Cover or Flatline.

So although obviously there was Top of the Pops you had the weekend Sunday show that Simon Amstell and Miquita Oliver presented together called Popworld which Sugababes certainly appeared on, the Saturday morning shows on ITV and BBC such as Live and Kicking/ SM:TV Live and CD:UK straight after again which were a continuous part of the tv schedules for a young audience for so many years etc. So yeah Sugababes would have done all of them and from the very beginning for many years they were just amazing a great sound hit after hit and their music even being used on film soundtracks. But the turning point seemed to be when the very last founding member left meaning of course that the line up then consisted of any original ones all gone and from since then to now well - I don't exactly remember the same level of success from them and equally that much interest to point they have been on self declared hiatus for many years now and don't see that ending. Seemed that as said once the very last original founding one left seemed that the essence of what made them in lot of ways went with it and perhaps literally just, by then a change too many. But yeah for quite number of years they were just something very unique and special in their songs their performances their music videos and I just hugely miss that era cause it was so special, and alas we won't have it again!! :/

Oh next time you do a Sugababes video, make sure you look for the "Full Video" as some of their videos on their official KZbin are cut short for some strange reason, like Too Lost In You on this one

Found channel through your kylie reactions. Just a note on the production. Their producers xenomania are renowened for mad productions and doing creative things with songs. Love to hear what you think about biology or sexy no no no

I've not been a subscriber of yours for too long, so I wondered after just watching your All Saints review if you've done anything on Sugababes. I learnt about them in 2017 by watching a KZbin video about UK recording artists with the most top 10 singles & they were included. "Push the Button" was the first song I heard & I loved it. "Round Round" wasn't included on a soundtrack, but "Too Lost in You" was featured on the "Love Actually" soundtrack. I absolutely ADORE Keisha & follow her (and you) on Instagram & KZbin.

@@PancakeMarshmallowDude I know, I was thrilled! Such a fun video & song. It was actually written for a real life situation with Keisha who was crushing on another recording artist being produced by the Sugababes' producer.
