Mia’s mom’s death happened two years prior. She mentioned early on it was her mom’s two year remembrance, which is what she was at in the beginning. Also When Riley did the hand, it was Mia’s mom UNTIL Mia touched his hand. That’s when it changed. Mia’s demon took over from then on. Also why her mom got more wet & bloated every time. Wasn’t her. And when Mia heard her “mother” say “we’ll have him forever” as she had her hands on the wheelchair about to let him go into traffic, that’s when she realized it wasn’t her mom. It was the bad spirits tricking her. Because that’s what Joss said - if you die while they’re in you, they’ll have you forever. That’s why they kept trying to kill Riley. They wanted him.
