I’m 18 years old and have listened to this band since I was a baby. It was my parents favorite band when they were still together and every single one of their songs gives a wave of nostalgia and makes me tear up when I listen. The death of the main singer, Dolores left me a feeling of emptiness and despair and I couldn’t listen to their music for a while. Now I own most of their physical albums and their music is my escape from the world. It hurts knowing I’ll never get to see and hear my heros in person.

@@tdogg1157 I get what you’re saying. Perhaps my comment was a little ambiguous. Dolores was prompted to write the song by the Warrington bombings. I believe her sentiments, from the anger and grief I’ve seen in other interviews, was for the children in not only Ireland, but for all children caught up in adult’s conflicts. The war in Northern Ireland was between the Protestant unionists, or loyalists and the Roman Catholic republicans. The British army weren’t invaders, although there was long standing animosity due to the actions of the Black and Tans, they were part of a peacekeeping force along with the Royal Ulster Constabulary RUC and the Ulster Defence Regiment UDR. It was a nasty time and I lost close friends. There were unforgivable actions on all sides by all parties. No one is free of blame.

Zombie is, of course a criticism of the savagery of the conflict between the extremists of both the Protestant and Catholic communities in Northern Ireland, refusing at the time to attempt reconciliation and stuck in an endless cycle of retaliation upon retaliation for every murder. There are still those who seem to want to get back to this rather than nurture the peace. You should look into 'Mass Destruction' by Faithless for an equally powerful critique of hatred. In fact look into all of their stuff (such as 'Insomnia'), they're brilliant.
