Man the respect and friendship that you and your Dad have here is really beautiful. Like it's been said before, but it's so special you get to enjoy great works of art together and speak about your distinct points of views in your own voices..and that they're fully embraced. The fact that you chose this song made that dynamic feel even more visceral. You're both very lucky.

This beats my story as I was never closer than 50ft from the stage, but I'll share in any case. Delores didn't mention it herself, but word circulating through the audience was that she'd invited the teachers at her kids' school to the show, which I thought was the sweetest gesture.

@@frontroom Just encountered your channel through this and your Radiohead reaction, and will keep watching! The closest I can come to a traditional song by an Irish band would be to recommend: 1. DEAD CAN DANCE: Australian band, but singer Brendan Perry lives in Ireland, and they are highly influenced by traditional Gaelic and Middle Eastern sounds and instruments. The Wind That Shakes the Barley is a Robert Dwyer Joyce Irish poem that the other singer, Lisa Gerrard, sings acapella. Desert Song and Rakim are great Middle Eastern sounding songs, due to the use of the Chinese Dulcimer stringed instrument, worth listening to as well to see what they're capable of instrumentally. 2. CAMERA OBSCURA: Swimming Pool (live in Madrid), Happy New Year, Houseboat... are some of the many great songs by this Scottish band whose singer, Tracyanne Campbell, has the sweetest voice and loveliest accent ever.

This song gets me emotional because it reminds me of my childhood in mid 90s Ireland when the grey 80s depression had passed and things got better year after year. Jurassic Park came out. We were on a road to peace in Northern Ireland, Man United were on a road to the Champions League, Schumacher and Ferrari were on a road to dominating F1, and i was enjoying a fun youth with my friends on our bikes without any of the stresses that life gave me later. Ireland wasn't without problems but it was a good place to grow up, and for me this song defines the sense of Irishness we had then.

"Those strings are pretty, but mournful... okay, I'll shut up!..." followed by the "it's always a bit of a dilemma, because those are the thoughts going through my head -- should I articulate them in the moment, or wait until later?"... That ironically almost sums up the song itself (to me), and all "Dad" heard was the intro. Please don't ever let KZbin instruct the value of your relationship/chemistry/content!

I grew up in the 90s listening to the Cranberries. At some point theirs was the only music I was listening to. Their first three albums are phenomenal, and I'm especially tied to the first one, the one Linger belongs to. They haven't done any traditional Irish music, but their catalog is full of songs that have hints here and there of Irish folk inflections. For instance, Will you remember from their third album, To the faithful departed, and What you were, a b-side from their first album. One of my favourite songs of theirs is a cover of the beautiful (They long to be) Close to you by The Carpenters. You might want to check that out, the arrangement of their version is sublime, your father will love it.

Enjoyed your reactions. Just a heads up the Irish government and the UK government no longer recognize the British Isles as including Ireland so it’s the British and Irish Isles or the Anglo Celtic Isles. British Isles is a colonial term showing ownership over Ireland. The Romans named the island Hibernia, and was never considered part of the British Isles until the British government started using that term in the 17th century. So any music coming out of Ireland would not be considered British but Irish.
